A 10% swing from Tory to Labour is the biggest swing towards Labour in a by election since they were in government (the other bigger swings in he last ten years have been Tory to Lib Dem or in a couple of cases Tory to UKIP) and this is a safe Tory seat and it shows the polls are correct for now and they are recovering from 2019 so what exactly do you want? Deny all the problems Labour are actually trying to fix now and just let the racists back in? Do you think they should have tried to score points at the height of the crisis and vote against restrictions so more people can die just inflict a defeat on the government? (because apparently 'opposition' is just opposing for the sake of it and shouting at people according to some) This is a long game and Labour are slowly fixing the problems they have and only then can really add any meat to the bones of what they've presented so far in terms of what they'd do and then announce more in terms of policy closer to an actual election. People are only starting to listen to them again now after they've shown they will actually respect voters (and news isn't dominated by covid) so what is your big quick fix? Who is the so called charismatic person who will magically turn things around in an instant you have in mind? Starmer hasn't been perfect but at least he's serious about tackling the problems with Labour and making them a party of government again rather than a protest group full of people who only want to use the Labour brand for their own personal agendas. Going from 26 points behind to being neck and neck at this stage is certainly an achievement and the gloves are off now so unless you live in a twitter bubble I don't see why anyone say he's the problem right now especially as his ratings have recovered to the point that he's actually way ahead of both Miliband and Corbyn at this stage but there is still a lot of work to do and they've been all over the corruption scandals right now so I don't see what the magic solution is here.

  4. You all do know the 2.1% is the start of a negotiation position, right? That's what was agreed on in the budget and it's a starting point and the unions would negotiate with them if they were in government. It's basic competence for a party that's wants to be in government. The 2019 figure is now out of date with regards to the current budget and pulling out random figures such as 5% or 15% that you can't explain beyond "this what we want" rather than how you got there and how it works within the budget just screams protest group rather an opposition that wants to be in government. They have communicated this badly like the tax situation but we'll see what happens in the next few days as there is quite obviously gonna be some kind of u-turn.

Funny how people like you are sharing the video that deliberately misses the follow up question where Starmer completely destroys Johnson and shows the people who think tweeting is "opposition" what really matters in politics. People like you think this was a moment that made Starmer look fbad (and you're doing exactly what the Tories want you to do so congratulations!) but only a small percentage of the electorate are on twitter (and Rashford has gone well beyond tweeting in his campaign) but most people saw this as where the government's hypocrisy on the whole scandal was exposed as this was no accident, it was all within the government's own guidelines. Remember who this fight is really about and that is poor parents who are struggling to feed their children. A national (and global) emergency is the last place where they should try and score points and it's difficult when they haven't set their stall out as to what a Labour government would be like of course but I think you'll find people prefer this to just sniping on twitter. When this is over you'll see what opposition really looks like just like you're seeing what actually allowing a leader to be criticised actually looks like. @1349381943331233794

  11. Interesting that paid for singles download sales are the highest they've been for a while though. Never thought I'd see the day I'd be impressed that two songs sold over 10,000 in the same week  Granted there are a few charity songs but the Tik Tok hits seem to be doing well on downloads. I've been streaming more myself but I've still been ordering CDs and vinyl and will continue to do so.
  12. I think the point that this article is missing is that quite a lot of businesses put Spotify playlists so the increase on personal streaming is being offset by the massive decrease in streaming by businesses that are temporarily closed. I guess this means at least the Red Lion in Basingstoke or Jenny's Coffee Shop are not going to help determine the big chart battles of the next week. Might pick up a few things in that HMV sale myself. I need something to distract from all the festivals being cancelled :(
  13. My primary consumption of music is still CDs, downloads and Vinyl but I listen to New Music Friday UK every week in order and add any songs I like to my playlists (I updated my version of Hot Hits 'Grand Hits' last week) If there is anything I really like and if I don't know the artist I check more of their music out and follow them on Twitter if I like them. If I really like anything then I usually go and either buy their single or album. However I don't understand how people can see streaming services as their main way of 'discovering' music without having some kind of outside direction as discover playlists tend to be absolute rubbish and I find it frustrating when I hear a hidden gem really far down a playlist as I feel lots of people may be missing out on great songs buried deep in playlists. As much as I feel that due to other streaming services gaining more marketshare has made the charts better and less predictable I still feel that playlists and the way everything is calculated does skew the figures to the point that it doesn't actually represent what is actually popular as some people will leave a playlist running even if they don't like the song. If there was a way to determine if someone chose a particular song or a way to see if someone keeps playing a certain song on a playlist without leaving the door open to manipulation that would be better but in general I would like to see something done about playlists but it's probably gonna be like ACR where they're gonna have to keep adjusting the rules as time goes on. I've said this before the OCC can only work with the data they're given so I don't want to go around in circles too much again
  14. No, 800k premium sales wouldn't even be enough to even HALVE the gap  The fact you've literally spent SIX HOURS straw clutching and crying 'manipulation' when the whole reason Mariah was anywhere near #1 in the first place is because of another form of manipulation is bloody ridiculous
  15. Personally I think it'll become even more interesting considering that #1 sales singles might not even make the chart more often next year after it inevitably happened this week so I would like this to continue as we can analyse who are still 'sales artists' and see other trends like 'sales genres'. Plus sales might still make a small difference at the top at least.
  16. I'm swinging towards being in the camp that we should have the Apple Music chart in here as well and make it the Spotify/Apple Music thread considering that it seems much more interesting in terms of new music and is gradually having much of a difference on the charts due to increasing market share.
  17. Despite dwindling numbers there will always be people that will prefer to buy music so sales will still always be a factor and Musicweek at the very least will keep the sales data within their reports. I think the reason we have these constant changes and this is something which I didn't really think about before with my suggestions as to what the OCC should do is that the OCC can only work with the data they're given. As far as I know at the very least Spotify, Apple Music etc. just give them the data of 'This is how many streams each song got from premium subscribers and these are the streams from free members or from free trials' so they can only work with what they have to keep everything relevant while also making it interesting and streaming isn't like the a physical or a download where one person buy it = one sale and that's it. It looks like streaming is here to stay now and there is an extremely competitive market unlike those years where we could look at the iTunes chart and pretty know what the chart will look like most of the time so there will still be a need for an official chart to unify it all and see what the most popular songs and albums are across all platforms but I think OCC rule changes will be something we will probably have to get used to every summer if things keep going in this direction  But you never I guess, would anyone here have said iTunes would be insignificant by now in 2012/13?
  18. I was expecting Beautiful People to be a certainly for #1 next week but depending on how much the streams drop it's not out of the question at all that Shawn and & Camilla could stay at the top :o
  19. You can get a free trial on Apple Music, those streams would only count for 600/1200
  20. As we've seen in recent weeks Spotify position's don't have as much of an influence on an end chart position as they used to due to increased competition so think that'd be a great idea. Playlists seem to have less influence on Apple as well so it's always more interesting as well.
  21. 13 Mabel - Don't Call Me Up I agree this an absolute banger! Just bought it myself! Never thought I'd say either of those about her as everything she's done before has been really mediocre imo (One Shot was ok and I was surprised that one didn't nothing)
  22. Another 1993-er here! I starting listening to the chart and watching TOTP every week when No Limit by 2 Unlimited and both became the highlight of my week ever since! The early/mid 2000s was a great era for me as I like a lot of indie music and a lot of bands I like that would get nowhere near the chart nowadays would get into sometimes. Those bands were always front-loaded so I always seeked out the midweeks and I found a website called Cool Clarity and the rest is history! :D The early 2010s were great as well as anything could get in, sales were high and a lot of the pop music and EDM was very good! I'm still as passionate of a follower as ever but I've made my feelings on streaming clear here and there is still a part of me that hopes it'll die off but it doesn't look like it'll happen at the moment. I have got to the point that I have e-mailed the OCC with my suggestions as the chart should be about the amount of people that like songs and albums rather than the amount and ACR only sticks a plaster over the issue, has anyone else done this? Should we start a mass movement to change the charts for the better? I do feel that we can at least make things a little better anyway. I think the charts are needed now just as much as ever and still make an impact as I think Sweet But Psycho taking off massively lately had at least a little to do with getting into the chart anyway.

YES LOYLE CARNER! :cheer: I don't understand how Funky Friday and MIA are doing well and Tints isn't :(
  24. No one is saying anything about changing the ratio to 1:10  Keep the other rules the way they are but maybe have the 'cap' replace ACR or even run alongside it. It makes more sense to stop someone's streams counting as if they've 'bought' a song then to complicate things further with double ACR.
  25. It's a case of if they had a 'cap' in the first place, they distinguished what were single stream and what was streamed as part of listening to an album and they didn't have the whole 'no data for Thursday so lets so an average or make the whole thing up' problem (of course the latter isn't the OCC's fault but not having accurate data is a problem particularly in a close week like this week was) then we wouldn't be in this situation. I think after the all time highs of 2012 they didn't think actual single sales would be at a 13 year low just three years after streaming was introduced in 2015, I think they thought sales would still be the biggest factor at this point. The whole thing is so much different from going from vinyl to CDs and CDs to downloads so they had to do something different to track it anyway.
