Artists with the most UK top ten hits
Never understood why Elvis got another 16 Top Ten hits with re-issues. Surely they should have been classed as re-entries? And he got an extra 3 number 1 hits as well. Unfair.

The Top 40 bestselling cassettes of 2018
The Top 40 bestselling cassettes of 2018 On your marks, cassette, go! 2018 was the biggest year for cassette sales in over a decade, with music fans across all age ranges getting their hands on a cassette by their favourite chart act. The BPI revealed sales of the format were up 125.3% year-on-year, reaching 50,000 sales in 2018 compared to just under 30,000 sold in 2017, according to Official Charts Company data. While some cassettes are stocked in high street retailers, the majority are available through artists' official webstores and at live gigs, often in collectable limited edition runs. Last year saw the highest number of cassettes purchased in the UK since 2004. So which artists are helping the phoenix format rise from the ashes? The 1975 scored 2018's bestselling cassette with their Number 1 album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships. Available in white, red, purple and green, the group sold 7,500 copies of their studio album on cassette in its first week of release, making it the fastest-seller on the format since July 2002. Kylie Minogue was also a big seller on the vintage platform, shifting an impressive 6,262 tapes of her Number 1 album Golden. Following it's initial release, Kylie also released a Collector's Edition and a Winter Collector's Edition. Kylie's BMG labelmates The Prodigy finish third in the 2018 countdown, having sold 2,148 cassettes of their Number 1 album No Tourists. Should they have not released a cassette, they would only have topped the Official Albums Chart by five combined sales. Released in 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy's Awesome Mix 2 continued to sell well last year, ranking in fourth, while streaming supremo Ariana Grande proved she's also popular on the retro format in fifth. Elsewhere, Delta by Mumford & Sons is in sixth, ahead of the first ever Now That's What I Call Music! album (reissued alongside the release of NOW 100) at 7, and Guardians of the Galaxy's Awesome Mix 1 at 8. Snow Patrol's latest album Wildness, and Take That's reimagined greatest hits Odyssey close out the Top 10 at Numbers 9 and 10. 2018 releases that also sold well on cassette include Thirty Seconds To Mars, twenty one pilots and Manic Street Preachers, while Rick Astley, Courteeners, 5 Seconds of Summer, Arctic Monkeys and Blossoms also feature in the year-end Top 20. Christmas No1 Album 2018
As expected. The Greatest Showman – the film’s hugely successful cast recording takes this year’s Christmas Number 1 album with its strongest week of sales yet. The collection shifted 69,000 units across sales and streams to rack up a 23rd non-consecutive week at Number 1. 85% of its sales this week were pure sales (CD, vinyl and download). The album, which was released in December 2017, hasn’t exited the Top 5 all year and, according to the BPI, has officially gone 5x platinum this week. 1,567,599 to date.

OCC: Best Selling Christmas Number Ones
For comparison, here's MTV's version. VH1 and MTV December 2018 Official Top 50 Christmas hits (based on OCC sales figures, rounded to nearest 10,000). Sales only, no streams, not updated from last year. Not all are Christmas themed, probably only those records released in December. Some big hits left out – for example 3 Beatles December hits, Tom Jones, Brenda Lee, Band Aid 30, Harry Belafonte (probably due to lack of videos). US Billboard 200 - 09/15/2018
But Billboard may be different. Eminem’s Kamikaze may hold at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, according to industry forecasters. Those in the know suggest the set could earn around 120,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 13, which might be enough for it to hang on to the top slot. Kamikaze launched at No. 1 with 434,000 units earned in the week ending Sept. 6, according to Nielsen Music. Meanwhile, Paul McCartney’s new Egypt Station — which was released on Sept. 7 via MPL/Capitol Records — could arrive in the No. 2 slot, and is flirting with a No. 1 debut. The album could tally 115,000-plus units for the week. If Egypt starts at No. 1, it will earn McCartney his eighth leader on the list, and first since 1982’s Tug of War. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the Sept. 22-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Egypt Station will debut) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Apple Music Gains Popularity Worldwide
From Billboard. Apple Music Gains Popularity Worldwide, Spotify & Amazon Hold Market Shares Apple Music's global market share grew 2 percent in the first half of the year, reaching 19 percent of worldwide streamers, according to a study by MIDiA. Meanwhile, the report shows Spotify and Amazon holding relatively steady with 36 percent and 12 percent, respectively. MIDiA's Global Streaming Music Subscription Market H1 2018 report found music subscribers grew 16 percent in the first half of the year, reaching 229.5 million people worldwide -- up from 198.6 million at the end of 2017. (That's a 38 percent increase year-over-year, up 62.8 million subscribers from the same time last year.) Global music subscription revenue was $3.498 billion. "This represents strong but sustained, rather than strongly accelerating, growth: 60.8 million net new subscribers were added between H1 2016 and H1 2017. This indicates that subscriber growth remains on the faster-growth midpoint of the S-curve," writes MIDiA managing director Mark Mulligan. MIDiA expects strong, sustained growth to continue in the second half of 2018, hypothesizing this streaming growth phase will last until mid-2019, at which point the "early-follower segments will be tapped out in developed markets." Then, growth will be driven my mid-tier streaming markets, such as Japan, Germany, Brazil, Mexico and Russia, which are showing potential to drive strong subscriber growth but -- particular with the latter three -- will require more mid-tier product offerings. One such product could be inexpensive content bundles, as the Brazilian market has already seen with telco brands. If streaming companies fail to make their products accessible to lower income consumers, their services will be constrained to affluent elites, the study warns. Of course, with a content bundling strategy, revenue per user decreases, likely leading to revenue growth glowing even as subscribers tick upward. Specific to services, Spotify has either gained or maintained market share every six months since Q4 2016. Its current 36 percent marketshare comprises 83 million subscribers, adding 11.9 million new subscribers in the first half or 2018 -- 39 percent of all net new subscribers, more than any other music service in the time period. Apple Music's 19 percent market share is up three points from the same time last year, totaling 43.5 million subscribers. Of the 9.2 million subscribers added over the first six months of 2018, the study states the United States was the key growth market -- where Apple Music is now reported to lead Spotify in paying subscriptions. Amazon's Prime Music and Amazon Music services added just under half a point of market share, staying relatively stable at 12 percent. The most growth coming to Amazon Music tier, adding 3.3 million to reach 9.5 million in H2 2018. Overall, Amazon had 27.9 million subscribers at the end of the period. As well, Tencent Music ended the half year with 8 percent of the global marketshare, while Deezer, Google and Pandora each had 3 percent.
