New all-time chart is coming soon to celebrate the 60th anniversary. The UK Album Chart began on W/E 28th July 1956. No, it has certifications, but not combined. ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK - ULTIMATE DIRTY DANCING 3 x Platinum Certification (Album) 22 July 2013 ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK - DIRTY DANCING - OST 5 x Platinum Certification (Album) 01 January 1991 Expect more upgrades in the coming weeks wherever there’s data available for all-time sales from the Official Charts Company. It won’t be done in one fell swoop, but BPI will be working through the Official Charts’ lists to try and ensure parity with the sales they’ve reported.

In the Billboard Top 200 albums chart this week, 33 The Beatles – 1 16,565 Equivalent Album Sales, 6,769 sales, 21,055 digital song sales, 11,536,866 streams track equivalent albums TEA 2,105 = 21,055/10 streaming equivalent albums SEA 7,691 = 11,536,866/1,500 EAS 16,565 = 6,769 + 2,105 + 7,691 Streaming songs and downloading tracks certainly boosts "sales" in the US. But it is the same for every album. BTW. The Beatles reached a quarter of a billion streams in 12 days worldwide in 9 streaming services. :yahoo:

It's worse in America. If you stream a track it counts towards album sales (SEA) If you download a track it counts towards album sales (TEA) The Beatles 1 had 17,000 pure album sales yet ended up with 36,000 equivalent album sales on the Billboard Top 200 Christmas chart. I call that triple counting. I have heard of grade inflation at GCSE but this is ridiculous ...

Cliff Richard also did it twice - in 1959 and 1988.

From the OCC. Biggest single of every year The Official Singles Chart has been around for over 60 years, kicking off in November 1952. The big deal, of course, is making it all the way to Number 1 and staying there as long as possible. But what about the tracks that achieve the ultimate chart-topping experience? We're not just talking a few weeks at Number 1, we're talking owning the entire year, and finishing as the biggest song of them all. We've been through the archives to collect every single one of the biggest singles, top sellers from 1952–2013 and from 2014 based on a combined figure of sales and streams, for each year of the Official Singles Chart. Only a handful of artists have managed to nab the year's top song more than once: Elvis Presley (1958, 1960, 1961, 1970), the Beatles (1963, 1964, 1968) and Pharrell Williams (2013, 2014). Elvis, as you can see, has done it the most – four times! Only two songs have managed to finish as the biggest seller more than once. Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas was 1984's Number 1, while Band Aid 20's cover repeated the feat to decades later. Unchained Melody was the top seller of 1990 for Righteous Brothers, while Robson & Jerome's cover did it again just five years later. 1952: Vera Lynn – Auf Wiederseh'n (Sweetheart). 1953: Frankie Laine – I Believe. 1954: Doris Day – Secret Love. 1955: Slim Whitman – Rose Marie. 1956: Pat Boone – I'll Be Home. 1957: Paul Anka – Diana. 1958: Elvis Presley – Jailhouse Rock. 1959: Cliff Richard – Living Doll. 1960: Elvis Presley – It's Now Or Never. 1961: Elvis Presley Wooden Heart. 1962: Frank Ifield – I Remember You. 1963: Beatles – She Loves You. 1964: Beatles – Can't Buy Me Love. 1965: Ken Dodd – Tears. 1966: Tom Jones – Green Green Grass of Home. 1967: Engelbert Humperdinck – Release Me. 1968: Beatles – Hey Jude. 1969: Archies – Sugar Sugar. 1970: Elvis Presley – The Wonder of You. 1971: George Harrison – My Sweet Lord. 1972: Royal Scots Dragoon Guards – Amazing Grace. 1973: Dawn – Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree. 1974: Mud – Tiger Feet. 1975: Bay City Rollers – Bye Bye Baby. 1976: Brotherhood of Man – Save Your Kisses For Me. 1977: Wings – Mull Of Kintyre. 1978: Boney M – Rivers of Babylon/Brown Girl in the Ring. 1979: Art Garfunkel – Bright Eyes. 1980: The Police – Don't Stand So Close To Me. 1981: Soft Cell – Tainted Love. 1982: Dexy's Midnight Runners – Come On Eileen. 1983: Culture Club – Karma Chameleon. 1984: Band Aid – Do They Know It's Christmas? 1985: Jennifer Rush – The Power Of Love. 1986: The Communards – Don't Leave Me This Way. 1987: Rick Astley – Never Gonna Give You Up. 1988: Mistletoe and Wine – Cliff Richard 1989: Black Box – Ride On Time. 1990: Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody. 1991: Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. 1992: Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You. 1993: Meatloaf – I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) 1994: Wet Wet Wet – Love Is All Around. 1995: Robson & Jerome – Unchained Melody. 1996: Fugees – Killing Me Softly. 1997: Candle In The Wind/Something About The Way You Look Tonight – Elton John. 1998: Cher – Believe. 1999: Britney Spears – Baby One More Time. 2000: Bob The Builder – Can We Fix It. 2001: Shaggy – It Wasn't Me. 2002: Will Young – Evergreen. 2003: Black Eyed Peas – Where Is The Love. 2004: Band Aid 20 – Do They Know It's Christmas. 2005: (Is This The Way To) Amarillo – Tony Christie feat. Peter Kay. 2006: Gnarls Barkley – Crazy. 2007: Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love. 2008: Alexandra Burke – Hallelujah. 2009: Lady Gaga – Poker Face. 2010: Eminem feat. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie. 2011: Adele – Someone Like You. 2012: Gotye feat. Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know. 2013: Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell – Blurred Lines. 2014: Pharrell Williams – Happy. 2015: Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk. I assume that subsequent sales have not been added on (otherwise Slade would be top in 1973 instead of Dawn).
  9. From Billboard. Beatles Surge on Charts After Streaming Debut "Come Together" ranks as the Fab Four's most-streamed song, while their albums make big gains too. Please welcome newcomers John, Paul, George and Ringo to Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart. Following the band's trumpeted arrival on music streaming services Dec. 24, The Beatles bound onto the Hot Rock Songs and Rock Streaming Songs charts (dated Jan. 16). "Come Together" leads with debuts at Nos. 14 and 18, respectively, on Hot Rock Songs (where older songs are eligible to chart if they rank in the top half and show notable gains; the list launched in 2009) and Rock Streaming Songs, fueled by its 2.1 million domestic clicks in the week ending Dec. 31, according to Nielsen Music. The track, a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1969 from the Abbey Road album, also leaps by 177 percent to 4,000 sold. Its rank as the most-streamed Beatles song for the week is logical: In addition to its standing as one of the Fab Four's inarguable classics, it's also the first song on Spotify's Beatles best-of playlist named Come Together. Although "Come Together" is the only Beatles song new to Rock Streaming Songs (which runs 25 positions-deep), the band sends three other titles onto Hot Rock Songs: "Hey Jude" (No. 19), "Here Comes the Sun" (No. 20) and "Yesterday" (No. 25). (Hot Rock Songs encompasses sales, streaming and radio airplay activity.) Over on the Billboard 200 albums chart, five of the group's sets dot the list, including greatest-hits collection 1, which ascends 41-16. It earned 36,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Dec. 31. Forty percent of the album's total units for the week are owed to streams of its songs, thanks to the popularity of 1's tracks. (All 27 were No. 1 singles on either the Billboard Hot 100 or Official U.K. Singles Chart.) 1's track equivalent album units (for which every 10 tracks sold from an album equates to one equivalent album unit) also vault 155 percent, to 4,000 units (or, 11 percent of its total units for the week). Notably, 1's pure album sales were down for the week by 19 percent, to 18,000. Four more Beatles albums show on the latest Billboard 200, including three that return to the chart for the first time since 2014: Abbey Road climbs 135-77 (11,000 units, up 13 percent); the group's self-titled set (also known as the White Album) re-enters at No. 79 (11,000 units, up 45 percent); Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band returns at No. 121 (8,000 units, up 17 percent); and Rubber Soul bounces back onto the list at No. 158 (7,000 units, up 51 percent). Like 1, those four albums all saw a decline in pure album sales, falling a collective 25 percent.

And the Albums chart is also affected by streaming. Beatles 1 is no. 46 on downloads, no. 32 on physical but no. 6 on audio streams to give an overall chart position of no. 21.

^ That's what I originally thought but a poster on UKMix states, Any other ideas how you can stream an album that does not exist?
  13. ben08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
But there are separate entries for Beatles In Stereo (no. 30) and Beatles In Mono (no. 20). If you can't buy Beatles in Mono on iTunes how could you possibly stream it? How could they confuse Beatles Box Set with Beatles in Stereo in the chart listing as Beatles in Stereo can't be digitally downloaded anywhere? Beatles in Mono only has 10 albums as opposed to 14 for Beatles in Stereo.
  14. ben08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Thanks for these replies. If Beatles In Stereo is not even a digital download on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play how can it be streamed if only the studio albums plus 4 compilations are available on the 9 streaming services? TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS was an iTunes exclusive but is not on Apple Music. How does it appear on the OCC chart? Alan Jones did not explain this. Does iTunes reports 30 second previews as streams to Apple Music? Any theories how Beatles Her Majesty (26 seconds) appears on Spotify as 7,297 plays? I am really baffled.
  15. ben08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Are the totals displayed in Spotify for tracks streamed more than 30 seconds or do they include tracks played for less than 30 seconds in their totals? Then OCC filters them out. Her Majesty on Abbey Road only lasts 26 seconds but yet Spotify says it has been streamed over 5,000 times. How can this be?
  16. Any Beatles tracks on Apple Music Top 200?
  17. VH1 said they had no Beatles videos to play so they skipped it. They will have no excuse when this program is updated - there are now 50 official videos to chose from.
  18. Now Spotify is revealing just how successful this launch has been, and the numbers revealed prove the band is still relevant 45 years after the members parted ways. During the first three days more than 70 million Beatles songs were streamed and surprisingly 65 percent of the listeners were under the age of 34. Billboard reported that after just two days of streaming, songs by The Beatles had been added to more than 673,000 Spotify playlists. From Showbiz411, Meantime, Apple lost its exclusivity on the Beatles for iTunes after five years. What’s interesting is that there was no announcement of the Apple deal coming to an end. Now that the Beatles have finally remixed their hits on the “1+1” album, it’s only a matter of time before they sell all new mixes on all the albums. The sound on “1+1” is amazing. If you play it side by side with the 2009 box set, there’s a huge difference. So my guess is Christmas 2017 we get the Beatles Remixed. We’ll have to buy the catalog all over again. It’s brilliant. Evil genius. The least streamed track on Spotify appears to be Matchbox with just under 27,000 plays. The Beatles on You tube since September 2014 - 1,443,320,628 views. Impressive! https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/en-GB/in...e=The%20Beatles Top video is Let it be with 55,451,430 total views.
  19. Thanks very much for that list - appreciated. It is several months out of date. On 15/3/15 OCC gave the top 5 as, 1 21 ADELE XL RECORDINGS 4,740,000 2 BACK TO BLACK AMY WINEHOUSE ISLAND 3,560,000 3 BACK TO BEDLAM JAMES BLUNT ATLANTIC 3,310,000 4 SPIRIT LEONA LEWIS SYCO MUSIC 3,130,000 5 NO ANGEL DIDO ARISTA 3,080,000 VH1 figures are rounded up.
  20. Today VH1 did the best selling albums of the 21st century. It gave Adele sales of 4.7m followed by Amy on 3.6m. Unfortunately I only saw the last few minutes of the program. It will be repeated on Tuesday afternoon from 4pm until 7.45pm on Sky channel 356. Hopefully someone can produce the complete list with official OCC sales figures.

The most-streamed tracks so far are: 1. Let It Be 2. Here Comes The Sun 3. Hey Jude 4. Twist and Shout 5. Come Together 6. In my life 7. Yesterday 8. Blackbird 9. All you need is love 10.
