According to VH1 Top 40 best-selling Christmas songs the OCC puts this on 310,000. EDIT: Sorry, my mistake. I did not read the first post carefully enough. :puke2:
  3. Special Apple iTunes Black Friday deal. Sgt. Pepper - £6.99 (save £5). Now no. 166 on iTunes chart.

This has now been updated on OCC website. It's not about the money, money, money, but it *is* about the sales. Jessie leads Hey Jude by over 111,000 sales – 1.24 million vs 1.12 million. Allowing for rounding errors it could be 1.2363 - 1.1249 = 1.1114. There are other mathematical combinations no doubt. Price tag - 1,236,300 Hey Jude - 1,124,900

1.240m Jessie J - Price Tag 1.120m The Beatles - Hey Jude (93k behind Jessie J) The OCC can't count. Perhaps due to rounding errors? Price tag 1.235 and Hey Jude 1.124 followed by a transposition error to give 1.142. 1.235 - 1.142 = 0.093m or 93,000. The OCC need a new calculator.
  8. Yet another UK Gold Album award for Elvis. ELVIS PRESLEY - THE REAL ELVIS Gold Certification (Album) 11 September 2015 SONY MUSIC (SONY MUSIC) Released 20 June 2011 Certification History: Silver Certification 22 July 2013 100,000 sales in just over 4 years. According to the 2016 edition of Guinness Book of Records Elvis is the best-selling solo artist with worldwide record sales (vinyl, cassettes, CDs and downloads) of more than 1 billion units. He has the most hit albums at 129 in both the UK and US charts. He has achieved the greatest number of cumulative weeks at no. 1 in the singles chart, 80 weeks in the UK and 79 weeks in the US. Since it says units I assume Guinness have converted 1 album into 6 equivalent singles units as they did in the past. Is it possible that Elvis has sold combined singles and albums totalling 1,000 million units?
  9. Following the recent Radio 2 program here is my estimate of The Beatles top 50 singles sales 1962 to 2015. SHE LOVES YOU 1,920,000 I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND 1,780,000 CAN'T BUY ME LOVE 1,540,000 I FEEL FINE 1,420,000 DAY TRIPPER/WE CAN WORK IT OUT 1,410,000 HEY JUDE 1,110,000 HELP! 960,000 FROM ME TO YOU 923,000 HELLO GOODBYE/I AM THE WALRUS 840,000 GET BACK 805,000 ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE 795,000 YELLOW SUBMARINE/ELEANOR RIGBY 785,000 PAPERBACK WRITER 775,000 MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (DOUBLE EP) 762,000 PENNY LANE/STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER 760,000 TICKET TO RIDE 758,000 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT 750,000 LADY MADONNA 390,000 LOVE ME DO 385,000 LET IT BE 380,000 PLEASE PLEASE ME 350,000 SOMETHING/COME TOGETHER 345,000 THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO 335,000 FREE AS A BIRD 300,000 BEATLES MOVIE MEDLEY 190,000 YESTERDAY 175,000 HERE COMES THE SUN 125,000 REAL LOVE 115,000 TWIST + SHOUT 110,000 BABY IT'S YOU 105,000 BACK IN THE U.S.S.R. 75,000 IN MY LIFE 45,000 BLACKBIRD 45,000 AIN'T SHE SWEET 40,000 I SAW HER STANDING THERE 40,000 LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS 35,000 WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS 35,000 WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS 30,000 A DAY IN THE LIFE 30,000 THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD 30,000 WHEN I'M SIXTY FOUR 30,000 NORWEGIAN WOOD 25,000 AND I LOVE HER 25,000 ALL MY LOVING 20,000 SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND 20,000 REVOLUTION 19,000 EIGHT DAYS A WEEK 19,000 YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY 18,000 OB LA DI OB LA DA 16,000 DRIVE MY CAR 15,000 These all add up to 22,000,000. OCC gave a figure of 22.1m by November 2012. Since then all their other tracks possibly total an extra 400,000 giving an overall total of 22.5m singles in the UK. Digital sales of both sides of Double A-sides were added to the original physical single except for the 1978 single Sgt Pepper/With a little help. For the period 1994 to 1996 sales are estimated to be about midway between the DUS and Panel sales of the time to take account of possible under reporting.
  10. In Music Week on 28/9/12 they published OCC album sales for a number of artists in the 21st Century. The Beatles 8.2m Rod Stewart 7.3m Elvis Presley 7.2m U2 7.0m Queen 5.9m Pink Floyd 4.4m Abba 4.3m Elton John 4.0m The Rolling Stones 3.7m AC/DC 3.1m
  11. I don't know where you got that position for AHDN. It was no. 16 The last Beatles sales list was given by Radio 2 on 31/8/09 - 6 years ago. In rank order, SHE LOVES YOU I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND CAN'T BUY ME LOVE I FEEL FINE DAY TRIPPER/WE CAN WORK IT OUT HEY JUDE FROM ME TO YOU HELP! HELLO GOODBYE GET BACK PAPERBACK WRITER ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE YELLOW SUBMARINE/ELEANOR RIGBY TICKET TO RIDE MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (DOUBLE EP) A HARD DAY'S NIGHT PENNY LANE/STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER LADY MADONNA LOVE ME DO PLEASE PLEASE ME THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO LET IT BE FREE AS A BIRD SOMETHING/COME TOGETHER BEATLES MOVIE MEDLEY YESTERDAY REAL LOVE BABY IT'S YOU BACK IN THE U.S.S.R. STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER Differences in rank order are due to downloads. Only MMT EP entered the OCC Singles chart (based on Record Retailer in the 60s). Twist & Shout EP did not enter the singles chart.
  12. Just have separate lists for all-time charts - physical and digital. You can combine them if you wish.
  13. I heard it also. They played 2 tracks from MMT EP and I am the walrus with Hello Goodbye. They should add all the digital sales together for both A and B sides, not just for double A sides. A single has 2 sides but a track is only one song. In the NME chart the Beatles had several EP entries. As did Elvis. These were ignored.
  14. EP sales are included because Beatles MMT entered the Record Retailer singles chart (as did Elvis with Jailhouse Rock EP). The separate EP chart had been abolished the week before MMT was released. See the OCC artist singles archive for The Beatles. As I said sales of Twist & Shout are not added to the EP because it did not enter the RR singles chart.
  15. Beatles Observations. * - Double A Side Releases included digital track sales Does this mean that both sides digital sales are added to the original physical sales? Sgt Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band and With A Little Help From My Friends were issued as a single in October 1978 reaching no. 63. Looks like they are not combining digital sales with this physical single as it is listed Nov-10. Looks like they are not adding digital sales of Twist & Shout to the Twist & Shout EP. Surprised at the position of Ain't she sweet (only reached no. 29 with 6 weeks in the chart). If anyone has up-to-date sales for Free as a bird, Real love, Baby it's you and Back in the USSR then we might be able to estimate digital download sales.

  18. OCC have today given an updated list of UK million sellers. The previous update was on 27/6/13. It gives (here) a list of numerically descending million sellers. Quite a number of songs have changed positions. La La La has broken through the million copies sales barrier to become the UK’s 148th million selling single. Plus: the UK's biggest selling singles of all time revealed! According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, Naughty Boy and Sam Smith’s La La La has now become one of the biggest selling singles in British history, smashing though one million UK sales. La La La is only the 148th track to reach this sales milestone since the Official Singles Chart began in November, 1952. Elton John’s Something About The Way You Look Tonight / Candle In The Wind ’97 remains the UK’s biggest selling single of all time with 4.92 million sales to its name. Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas is in second place with 3.75 million sales, followed by Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody (2.44 million sales). The Top 5 is completed by Wings’ Mull Of Kintyre / Girls’ School (2.08 million sales) and John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John’s You’re The One That I Want (2.05 million sales).

From same OCC statement, Since there are only 145 official UK million sellers expect more to be revealed. What could they possibly be? Have 6 or 7 catalogue singles just passed the magic million with downloads added on?
  20. And according to the OCC Rihanna total UK singles/tracks are now at 18,781,292.

1963/1964 sure was a crazy time. And I lived through it. Only 3 TV channels, no Radio 1, no computers - laptops - iPhones etc, few could afford record players. Singles were 33p or £12 in today's terms! And they are still selling albums and tracks by the bucketful.

From USA Today, Top 5 US Beatles downloads 1. Let It Be 846,000 2. Here Comes The Sun 782,000 3. Hey Jude 660,000 4. Come Together 529,000 5. In My Life 468,000 Total US digital track downloads: 14.6m Total RIAA certified sales: 177m albums Total US SoundScan sales since 1991: 65,224,000 albums Sales of 113,000 Beatles albums in the first four weeks of 2014. Some amazing statistics! Total world digital downloads could be approaching 25 million since Nov. 2010. :)
  23. From Music Week, Total singles sales fell annually between July and September by 3.1% to 43.9 million units, despite the Top 10 titles collectively selling nearly 40% more copies than the equivalent releases sold combined over the corresponding three months last year. This was led by Universal’s Positiva/PRMD track Wake Me Up by Avicii selling more copies in a third quarter (980,316 units) than any release since Elton John’s record-breaking Candle In The Wind 1997 16 years ago.
  24. Beatles Free as a bird and Real love 200,000 certification? How many of their albums will be certified for the first time based on sales from 1994? And it also applies to DVDs. But can you add shipments to sales without double counting?

I know these are OCC figures but sales of only 289 in 7 weeks seems very low. Maybe OCC adjusted previous sales downwards.
