62 singles this week (plus 5 albums and 1 video). This is unexpected, Trashmen - Surfin' Bird - Charly - Silver - Single - 08.03.2024 - 20.03.2006 Spent 4 weeks in the Top 100. Chart run (2/5/2009) 50, 79; then a year and a half later 3, 41. Unusual. Their only hit. No albums.

How did The Beatles ever allow their song to be in the movie? Maybe they got a huge royalty fee?
  3. ben08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
OK - I was wrong!! Probably around 3k per week for the last 7 weeks, mainly physical sales.

At last!! 'Now And Then', the single by @thebeatles, is now #BRITcertified Silver. Obviously the 25,000 or so chart ineligible singles are not included. But they were real sales!

We would all like to know that! Probably still suffering from a Christmas hangover. And if you search for Taylor Swift her last certificate is way back on 24/11/23. Similar for other artists. Recent certs not yet added.

No Silver cert last Friday so around 25,000 chart ineligible sales don't count for BPI certification, and presumably all-time sales. It might never go Silver.
  10. ben08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Will need to see if Now And Then was certified last Friday. Counting ineligible sales, I have it at just over 200,000 sales. They may be ineligible for the chart but they are recorded on the OCC database because Alan Jones gave us the sales figures. All sales should therefore contribute to certification. I'm sure this applies to other artists. I would agree that the Beatles Thursday streams are lost forever.

Do you know whether chart ineligible sales are taken into account e.g. when there are more than 3 variants released for songs? They don't count for chart sales but what about BPI certifications?

From BPI. Vinyl LP purchases have risen for the 16th consecutive year in the UK in 2023 and are growing at their fastest rate this decade. Following a 2.9% improvement in unit sales last year, the vinyl market in 2023 has, with just a few more days to go to year-end, increased more than four times as fast with an 11.7% rise to 5.9 million units. This is according to analysis of Official Charts data by the BPI, the association for the UK’s record companies and labels and the representative voice of British recorded music. The increase has been led by brand new releases from artists including Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Lewis Capaldi, The Rolling Stones, and Taylor Swift. While more than four-fifths of recorded music consumption in the UK is now made up of streaming, demand for vinyl LPs continues to surge, with the market at its highest annual level since 1990. This includes over a quarter of a million vinyl albums having been sold during the course of last week, making it the highest sales week for the format this century. Additionally, the CD market has sustained its smallest annual decline in nearly a decade this year as it moves closer to plateauing. Nearly 11 million CDs, which remain important commercially and to Official Charts success, were sold across the year, while sales of cassettes topped 100,000 units in a calendar year for the fourth consecutive year. '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?', the album by @oasis, is now #BRITcertified 17x Platinum. That's 5,100,000. BPI must be using the revised OCC sales for 1994 and 1995.

From the OCC. It's been announced that the Pogues will be releasing a very special, limitied edition vinyl release of Fairytale of New York featuring Kirsty MacColl next week. The new release of the modern festive classic will certainly see its chances for success as 2023's Christmas Number 1 single heavily increased. With a new physical release expected to drop December 19, this puts The Pogues in direct competition for the most important Number 1 of the year. The lead contenders so far, Wham! with Last Christmas, also announced yesterday that their 1984 classic would be issued on CD for the first time ever, in a bid to secure Last Christmas its first-ever stint at Number 1. The Official Christmas Number 1 race 2023 kicks off Friday December 15 with sales and streams counting up until midnight (11.59pm) on Thursday, December 21.
  21. Notice that the OCC now refers to combined sales and streams as UK chart units.
