Just as pointless as BPI's one billion streams award. :D Buzzjack should have an award for every user who logs on at least once a week.

62 singles this week (plus 5 albums and 1 video). This is unexpected, Trashmen - Surfin' Bird - Charly - Silver - Single - 08.03.2024 - 20.03.2006 Spent 4 weeks in the Top 100. Chart run (2/5/2009) 50, 79; then a year and a half later 3, 41. Unusual. Their only hit. No albums.

How did The Beatles ever allow their song to be in the movie? Maybe they got a huge royalty fee?

OK - I was wrong!! Probably around 3k per week for the last 7 weeks, mainly physical sales.

At last!! 'Now And Then', the single by @thebeatles, is now #BRITcertified Silver. Obviously the 25,000 or so chart ineligible singles are not included. But they were real sales!

We would all like to know that! Probably still suffering from a Christmas hangover. And if you search for Taylor Swift her last certificate is way back on 24/11/23. Similar for other artists. Recent certs not yet added.

No Silver cert last Friday so around 25,000 chart ineligible sales don't count for BPI certification, and presumably all-time sales. It might never go Silver.
  14. ben08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Will need to see if Now And Then was certified last Friday. Counting ineligible sales, I have it at just over 200,000 sales. They may be ineligible for the chart but they are recorded on the OCC database because Alan Jones gave us the sales figures. All sales should therefore contribute to certification. I'm sure this applies to other artists. I would agree that the Beatles Thursday streams are lost forever.

Do you know whether chart ineligible sales are taken into account e.g. when there are more than 3 variants released for songs? They don't count for chart sales but what about BPI certifications?

From the OCC Noah Kahan could claim the first Official Number 1 single of 2024 this week with his enduring hit Stick Season. With festive hits flushed away, the song looks set to lift nine places to reach the summit in its 14th week on chart, having previously peaked at Number 2 in December 2023. Meanwhile, Jack Harlow’s former chart-topper Lovin On Me flies 25 places midweek to Number 2, and Tate McRae could see greedy return to its previous peak of Number 3. Following the release of a limited edition vinyl variant, Dua Lipa’s Houdini tracks for a return to the Top 5 this week (4), as Billy Gillies ft. Hannah Boleyn’s DNA (Loving You) aims to break the Top 5 for the first time (5). After featuring in London’s New Year firework celebrations broadcast on the BBC, Dua Lipa’s former chart-topper Dance the Night lifts back into the Top 40 midweek (24). Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2002 smash Murder on the Dancefloor eyes a return to the Top 40 for the first time in 22 years this week, tracking for a Number 27 re-entry. The song, which peaked at Number 2, sees a spike in popularity thanks to its inclusion in the (very memorable) closing scene of writer-director Emerald Fennell’s psychological thriller Saltburn, starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi and Rosamund Pike, which began streaming on Amazon Prime over Christmas. From BPI. Vinyl LP purchases have risen for the 16th consecutive year in the UK in 2023 and are growing at their fastest rate this decade. Following a 2.9% improvement in unit sales last year, the vinyl market in 2023 has, with just a few more days to go to year-end, increased more than four times as fast with an 11.7% rise to 5.9 million units. This is according to analysis of Official Charts data by the BPI, the association for the UK’s record companies and labels and the representative voice of British recorded music. The increase has been led by brand new releases from artists including Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Lewis Capaldi, The Rolling Stones, and Taylor Swift. While more than four-fifths of recorded music consumption in the UK is now made up of streaming, demand for vinyl LPs continues to surge, with the market at its highest annual level since 1990. This includes over a quarter of a million vinyl albums having been sold during the course of last week, making it the highest sales week for the format this century. Additionally, the CD market has sustained its smallest annual decline in nearly a decade this year as it moves closer to plateauing. Nearly 11 million CDs, which remain important commercially and to Official Charts success, were sold across the year, while sales of cassettes topped 100,000 units in a calendar year for the fourth consecutive year. My local Asda store has started to sell again a limited range of CDs. For example, CDs by Take That, Cher, Madness, Daniel O'Donnell, Cliff, Beatles Red and Blue albums. I wonder whether Tesco and Sainsbury will follow selling CDs in the new year. This could affect the charts somewhat if more physicals are purchased.

From the BBC Christmas number one: Wham! and Sam Ryder do battle as chart race enters final day By Ian Youngs & Mark Savage BBC News Wham!, Sam Ryder and Mariah Carey are all vying for this year's Christmas number one, in one of the most open festive chart battles of recent years. Thursday is the final day for streams and sales to count before the Christmas chart is revealed on Friday. Wham!'s 1984 classic Last Christmas is leading the way, with Ryder's You're Christmas To Me the top new release. YouTubers LadBaby have been Christmas number one for the past five years, but decided not to enter the 2023 race. The Christmas chart battle "feels much more exciting than it has done for a few years", according to Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company. Talbot said there is "a much more open field" this year. "LadBaby have dominated for the last five years and I think by the time it reached its fifth Christmas number one last year, people were keen to see something a bit fresh and a bit new. "We've obviously got the classics that are coming back into the charts, we've got the usual run of charity records driven by ordinary people who just want to raise some money for good causes, and we've also got one or two really interesting releases as well, like Sam Ryder." The Wham! and Pogues songs have been reissued on vinyl, while Ryder's single is available on CD - with physical sales counting for more than streams in the chart formula. Streams of newer songs also carry greater weight - meaning Ryder and Sheeran/Sir Elton have a better chance of competing with classic festive tunes. And a song's placing on streaming services' Christmas playlists can be influential too. So although Ryder's song isn't on services like Spotify and Apple, it is likely to pop up for Amazon users who ask Alexa for festive tunes. "Playlists have a big part to play, and they are influential in terms of the chart when it comes to Christmas," says Talbot. "That said, particularly with a Christmas number one race, the key is not to rely on streaming - it's to generate sales, whether they be downloads or physical releases."
