Obviously the lead story on the BBC1 News At Ten. Special programmes from 10.40. Here I Am followed by Dolly At The BBC at 12.10. Expect BBC4 tributes on Friday too.
  6. The '86 version is the one that's on her only Hits collection The Whole Story but to me isn't as good as the 1978 original.

Another "how long does it take to do your hair?" "I don't know I wasn't there" Trump orders all US flags to be lowered for a week. This is extremely rare. The last time that happened was in 1965, when President Lyndon Baines Johnson ordered the flags lowered following the death of Winston Churchill. Trump designated four days of mourning after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in 2025. Pope John Paul II, Neil Armstrong , Rosa Parks, Billy Graham and Nelson Mandela also received a day or more of recognitions. Flags fly half-staff for current and former presidents for 30 days. Sitting vice presidents, current and former Supreme Court chief justices and the speaker of the House of Representatives each receive a 10-day observation.

    RIP Dolly. Jolene for No.1.
  9. TBH I think they'd already peaked. The hits weren't as big in 75/76 The Rod song is my favourite of his.
  10. I'd say most people remember Hot Chocolate for You Sexy Thing which was a hit twice and featured in Full Monty, rather than their only No.1. Hot Love is great and their biggest selling single in the UK by far. Rock Your Baby is a classic too.
  11. Makes a change from moaning about the heat or Andy Burnham or immigration.
  12. I'd say it's very big news.
  13. Can't see William inviting them to Sunday lunch anytime soon lol. Wonder if they'll get Special Branch armed protection back then.
  14. BBC News has confirmed it. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to move back to the UK, BBC News understands. As first reported by the Daily Telegraph, external and the Sun,, external Prince Harry and Meghan intend to relocate from the US later this month to a private, non-royal residence outside London. The couple's children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are enrolled to start at a British school in September. King Charles was told of the move on Sunday. There are no current plans for either Prince Harry or Meghan to resume their roles as working Royals. The Sussexes and their children visited the King at his Highgrove home in July this year, but it is understood the move was not discussed. The BBC understands the King was unaware of the move before last weekend but he welcomes the opportunity to see more of the Sussex family in a private and personal capacity. But there will be no expected change to the official status of Prince Harry and Meghan and they will remain as private individuals. Prince William and Princess Catherine have also been informed of their plans.
  15. Yes but you couldn't play your records during a power cut John.., Slade sold loads after Xmas too.
  16. Benefits claimants will be made to clean up their local communities and do charity work or face being stripped of their benefits under Reform UK plans. Robert Jenrick, the party’s Treasury spokesperson, said the long-term unemployed would have to work 20 hours a week scrubbing high streets, carrying out minor repairs and “beautifying neglected places”. He said: “They’ll work to clean up high streets and parks, to beautify neglected places, to carry out minor repairs, to staff libraries and community centres to perform many other tasks from the list that we’ve published today. We’ll also embrace local charities and community groups and ask them to help us and take part. If claimants refuse to participate or fail to show up, they’ll face penalties. The proposal was announced alongside others that Mr Jenrick said would cut £50 billion from the welfare bill. It includes seeing disability and sickness payments withdrawn or changed, in a move Reform branded the biggest shake-up of the welfare state in a generation. Under the changes, foreign nationals would also be banned from claiming almost all types of benefits in the UK, including EU nationals.
  17. Yes. And? Am retired now though, get pension.
  18. Erm, save some taxpayers money? PIP needs reforming. You can get it with bad acne. What?
  19. Oh look forward to this. MY DECADE. Fave years 74 to 77.
  20. Funeral took place today at Buckfast Abbey Devon. Tight security with armed police present and searches of the grounds, plant pots and bins and drains. Sniffer dogs in the Abbey. Everyone searched.. Her nephew Rev, Widdecombe, a vicar, spoke as well as a family friend. Farage did not attend as didn't want attention on him.
  21. Plus the horrendous reviews won't have helped. Put me off seeing it.
  22. Yes but they wouldn't get away with assassinating the US President or one of his close family. Vance would bomb the shit out of them and rightly so. Wipe them off the map. Trump said "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME,” he wrote.
  23. RING OF STEEL AROUND MELANIA AND BARRON TRUMP. A ring of steel of many heavily armed extra Secret Service agents guarding both 24/7 but especially when they go out, according to Sky News, after Iranian media said they have a new plan to kill Trump but if they can't get Trump they'll get one of those instead. They even said where she shops and said how easy a hit squad could kill her. Extra bodyguards assigned to his sons and grand-daughter Kai Trump too who was sneaking out with friends without her SS detail. That has stopped now and all are heavily guarded with bullet proof SUVs too. Trump has told Vance that should he be assassinated he is to bomb and annhiliate Iran.
  24. I think so but Labour further ahead....
  25. From MSN NEWS. Nigel Farage's hopes of becoming Prime Minister have received a sharp blow after a major new poll placed Reform UK third with just 16 seats. Lord Ashcroft, a former Conservative Party treasurer and pollster, found Reform on 18% in his survey between July 30 and August 3 - its lowest level since 2024. Andy Burnham's Labour led on 27%, with Kemi Badenoch's Conservatives on 23%.
