The Tory lies and deceit thread
In an interview with Iain Dale on LBC, former Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, a Keir Starmer supporter, says she believes Boris or whoever is the Tory leader will win the next election. She thinks Starmer's good but a sort of caretaker leader, like another Neil Kinnock really who won't become PM. I agree with her.

I thought Boris looked shattered today and so do others on other forums and Twitter. :( He looked a mess, which really isn't new, but also tired, stressed and generally awful. This must be affecting him and I wish people would stop saying he doesn't care. It's okay to criticise when you're not in the man's shoes. People seem to forget that he had Covid himself and had to rest for a few weeks. I wouldn't blame him at all if he just threw the towel in and said if I'm getting so much criticism, let someone else do it.

*SIGHS* I DON'T. I said Cheltenham, Cummings and the daft Eat Out didn't I?

Why tell me to try harder when a Cabinet minister said it?

Does she have a point though? We're discussing 100,000 deaths and obesity is said to be a risk factor. I have listed three mistakes they made.

Yes I admit they've made mistakes and amended my post to list three. Watch out. Scammers are pretending to offer the Covid vaccine for a fee and want your bank details. How many will be taken in by this?

Well Therese Coffey yesterday blamed it on our elderly population and too many obese. Her exact words just before 8am on ITV1. We do have a huge number of obese including her and me.

What would you have done differently then? List what you'd have done differently to what he did. I'd have cancelled Cheltenham races last year. I think that was a huge oversight. I'd have sacked Cummings immediately and wouldn't have let him do a press conference. I also think Eat Out To Help Out was a mistake but that was apparently Rishi's bright idea or rather one of his staff. I think it helped the spread. Any more?

Boris hinting at a memorial service after all this is over. That has been rumoured this weekend. He said "when this is all over we'll all come together to remember the victims and also the workers involved in trying to save those poor people"

From The Mirror: Thirty-one police officers are facing £200 fines after breaching Covid rules to get their hair cut, it has been revealed. Allegations that an on-duty group had been treated by a professional barber at Bethnal Green police station first surfaced earlier this month, the Metropolitan Police said. A probe was then launched and it was announced today that a decision has been made to hand 31 officers a £200 fixed penalty notice. Two officers involved in organising the activity on January 17 have also been identified and notified they are under investigation for misconduct, the force added. Det Chf Sp Marcus Barnett said: "It is deeply disappointing and frustrating that my officers have fallen short of the expectation to uphold Covid-19 regulations."

Did anyone see Therese Coffey making a complete fool of herself on GMB this morning, ending the interview by turning the webcam off when Piers pushed her on what she found insulting, relating to obesity and old age being covid factors? He was quoting back exactly what she'd just said and then went on to say he was being insulting! She said the reason for the high UK death rates is more elderly and obese. Got angry when he pushed her on it. She then when on to moan about the interview starting late. It was late because they were interviewing a holocaust survivor. Every time she's on she manages to cock it up. Moaned that they'd made her late to get to other broadcasters afterwards. Not a great morning for the government. :(

Rioting and anti-social behaviour in the Netherlands as people protest about a strict curfew introduced yesterday. Cars set on fire and supermarkets looted and one Dutch mayor told Sky News "We're heading for Civil war soon. People have had enough!" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55796126 Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has condemned weekend riots against newly imposed coronavirus restrictions as "criminal violence". Rioters attacked police and set cars and bikes on fire to protest against a curfew introduced on Saturday. In the southern city of Eindhoven, protesters threw fireworks, looted supermarkets and smashed shop windows. There were smaller protests in Amsterdam, and in some cities and towns around the country. More than 200 people have been detained, police said. "This has nothing to do with protest, this is criminal violence and we will treat it as such," Mr Rutte told reporters on Monday. A Covid testing centre was also set alight.

They were abiding by the rules and out for a daily walk in the snow though and, mainly in London, over zealous cops handed out fines in parks. That's just the way to p**s people off more and make them do what they like.

Many were social-distancing and it doesn't pass as easily outside. They need the public onside and many on Twitter now saying it's just a means to make money. Lose the public support and that's it.

Well my wife was talking to a very upset couple at the undertakers where Rachel's ashes are and their son was only 20 odd and had no prior illnesses or conditions and they swore blind he caught it after a visit to Newham hospital. His mum said he never went anywhere else as he was a recluse and had agoraphobia. That's what has put me off going. Must be in the atmosphere.

Last 5 retro albums
Gold is a sprawling 2 discs though. I hate having to play 2 discs with a lot of filler to get the big hits. Marc Bolan & T.Rex, The Essential with a grey cover, is the best single disc compilation.
