  1. The findings of the enquiry into allegations of bullying by Pritti Patel have been leaked. The report was completed months ago but Johnson has been sitting on it since then. It apparently finds that Patel (previously sacked by Theresa May for breaking the ministerial code) is guilty of bullying and is, therefore, in breach of the ministerial code. Apparently Johnson does not intend to sack her which, once again, makes me wonder what the ministerial code is for any more.

Surely she'll resign if she's in breach of the code, if he won't sack her.

  2. Terrible news

It is. How many others around the country must there be. Losing your job is no reason to do that really as you can always get some state support in this country. Wonder if there were underlying reasons too as it's easy to blame just one thing.

  3. I really do hope you're right, and if so, the amount of cut through that'll matter will be minimal, though I would still expect another few big headlines of Labour infighting in the months ahead with this route.

Good. The more Labour infighting before the next election the better the chance of the Tories winning again.

Next week, according to the TV Guides:

Leanne finally accepts that she needs to release Oliver from his suffering and her and Steve say goodbye to their son

I agree that maybe there should be some public health ads starting now or soon, on TV and radio, in the newspapers, social media, forums etc, billboards, selling the vaccine to the general public. By selling I mean persuading them it's safe for when it starts.

Maybe famous people in ads too saying "I'll have the vaccine and so should you" Cowell, Attenborough, Ant & Dec, Adele, Sheeran, politicians, people the public all know and mostly look up to.

Thought this post from another forum was interesting.

"Unfortunately, there are large communities in the UK who will not take the vaccine en masse.

I speak daily to a friend of mine from what gets termed "The South Asian Community " and they have a massive cultural hurdle to get over. For a start, they find it very difficult to isolate and follow the social distancing guidelines. Large, extended families rely on being in and out of each other's houses for meals and socialising. They are aware that they're not supposed to visit one another, but they do anyway because they accept the risk of dying above not being able to see their loved ones. And grandchildren, who are all going to school now, are regularly made to see grandparents, aunt, uncles, cousins, etc. so the schools are a epidemiological link between all the elders.

And then there's medicines. Many members of this and other communities eschew things like vaccines. They put their faith in natural remedies and see anything produced in a chemical factory as dangerous. My friend won't take anything her doctor subscribes; she finds things from Holland & Barretts to treat any problems (and I suspect because of psychosomatic responses/placebo, it largely works). I have tried to explain to her that a vaccine is natural - that it's not a medicine, but a sort of homepathic trigger that teaches the body to defeat a disease, but she's not sold; it's not made with essential oils and witch hazel, so it won't work properly.

It's going to be very hard to persuade people these days to take vaccines. I think the public education from the government really needs to start well in advance (i.e. now)."

  7. Honestly, who even cares any more?

I think may people have that attitude now so this second lockdown isn't being observed like the first. That was a sort of novelty but now people are fed up so just do as they like. Not all obviously.

Your friends' families are absolute morons. You can't dismiss what I believe.

Autism is not caused by MMR. There is absolutely no link. Guess what some kids get autism unfortunately? I was fully vaccinated in the 90s and guess what.. I don't have autism. Nor does anyone I know who was also vaccinated in the 90s.

One lived opposite my mum and when they were taking the Health Dept. to court, their solicitor asked my mum to sign a form stating the little girl was fine as a toddler before she had the MMR. She asked me what to do as my dad had just died. I told her not to do it or get involved in any way so they fell out with us. They lost their case as I said they would.

  9. Yeah actually I can because it’s f***ing nonsense that has no grounding in either science or fact. Antivaxxers are a cancer on the face of society

I'm not an antivaxxer though as I have the flu jab every year as does wife's employer. If I was I wouldn't have that would I? We're just wary of this as it's been developed so quickly.

My parents, who I’m now convinced have descended into madness due to lockdowns, tell me they won’t be rushing for a vaccine either. I’m currently explaining to them that I will do what I have to in order to return my life to normal because I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to live to work and not much else. My dad thinks he knows it all because he has a Genetics degree but I keep reminding him that it is 40 years old. My mum I think will cave as she swings from believing we’ve massively overestimated the virus to furiously scrubbing all of her groceries.

I think it's an insult to them to say they're "mad due to lockdowns"for being cautious about the vaccine. Ridiculous thing to say. Do we know that all politicians, scientists and celebrities will have it when their turn comes? No. I'm fine about people having it and conversely would like us not having it not to be ridiculed either. Hey we'll save the tax payer some money after all.

One would strongly suggest that you use your ample leisure time to equip yourself with the facts.

There is no link. None. Zero.

Yes I do know the facts and have read them but I am just saying that we know of two families with autistic daughters in their 20's now who think it was caused by MMR. I couldn't care less whether it was or wasn't but you can't dismiss what they believe.

As for the safety, as long as there is no hint of government interference, we have to trust the usual approval process. One of the reasons to be thankful for Harold Evans, one of the greatest journalists of my lifetime and who died recently, is that his commitment to expose the Thalidomide story led to changes to the regulatory system. It is never possible to guarantee that nothing like Thalidomide will happen again, but the fact that nothing like it has happened in the last 40-50 years should give us confidence.

    *Whispers* - MMR.

Yes I know it's supposed to have been disproved but some parents of kids with autism, we know two, are utterly convinced the MMR vaccine caused it.

Absolutely no way they will make the vaccine mandatory, not a chance.

Anyone who is at risk should be actively encouraged to take the vaccine yes but it should never be enforced.

If they tried to make it mandatory they'd have so many legal challenges and appeals lasting years. So it would take many years to become mandatory as there'd be one appeal after another.

Was reading last night that some employers may decide you can't enter your workplace unless you have a vaccination certificate. :o Some retailers may also require this though nothing's been planned as yet. Also pubs and restaurants. It's just rumours. Yes, it may be not mandatory but as they say you can be stopped putting your fellow workers, shoppers etc at risk.

Well considering you 'suddenly changed your mind' and predicted a Donald Trump win on the 3rd November, I'll expect you'll change your mind again.

    No I won't now. I trust her.

Nita won't even have the flu jab and I've heard that as a nanny she gets it free. I have it every year though.

Look Chris, no one will force you to take the vaccine but people who refuse it are idiots. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if people would rather die than have a sore arm for a few days or a mild fever then that is their choice. If your wife's employer actually understood the vaccine research then he would know that the reswarch has actually been going on for years and they have copied the same coronavirus genetic code. But if he feels Bill Gates is going to microchip everyone then that's his perogative.

If it passes the safety checks, it's safe. No ifs no buts.

It's a SHE actually and she does as she's a cell scientist with more degrees and PHD's than I can only dream of. I could link to her to prove I'm not fibbing as Google brings her straight up, but won't do. It's not a sore arm or mild fever we're worried about but the unknown. As I say, her sister, a GP, is for the vaccine.

I was undecided until Nita just told me what she said to her on Thursday. No way are they having it and their daughter won't either.

Neither of us will have the vaccine in a million years. Wife's employer, who is a scientist, says vaccines usually take years to develop so this that's been developed in weeks rings alarm bells for her. They won't have it and neither will we. Too much is unknown about it. Look at Thalidomide in the 60's. However her sister, who is a busy London GP, says she'll have it and recommend that her patients do too. She's already being asked if she thinks it'll be safe though.

I assume the take up will be very high but some like us will refuse it.
