Gaps between New Personal Bests
Seeing others stats makes me realise I was fortunate to get a top 5 hit in my first contest. Although tbh the song deserved it 🤭

Petition for this to be made the real #1!

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1989
I like all of the new ones this week to an extent. Boy Meets Girl is a good example of that kind of power pop song, I didn't know they wrote those other hits before now although I can see the similarities. The Living Years is a really nice track, definitely the more talented one from Genesis 🤭 and deservedly getting a hit here. Then the two old tracks are both good too, although I didn't care for them as much back then. At the time I remember thinking it was most unfair that these older tracks were charting and threatening my more modern faves - they'd already had their chance! Guess I was like the OG djcheekymagpie.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 7 Single - The Final
Seven Nation Army - one of the most distinctive tracks of the 00s and my bronze medalist, obviously very pleased to see it in the top 10 here

Djrum - Under Tangled Silence
Great to see a thread on this! I love pretty much everything I've heard by them, I was very late to the party with Portrait With Firewood but it was recommended to me a couple of years ago and I loved the sheer variety and scale of what they're aiming for in the compositions. The new ones for 2025 all feel equally successful to me and I'm majorly looking forward to the album

The obvious two are obvious

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1989
She Drives Me Crazy is really distinctive, not bad at all. The Duran Duran one is middling but not too bad either... not really fussed on any of the other new ones and the songs from 2-4 remain the best in the chart for me

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1989
I know what the first #1 will be in the thread, but I can't recall at all what the first true 1989 release was that got to #1

Bop Idol 3.0: THE RESULTS!
Saint Etienne really bombed with the final voters, a huge slide back down to reality after being top 5 for a short while. The top three is great, and I voted for them all, but yes it is a tiny bit predictable to see the obvious ones do so well - although top 5 for Annie makes up for it 🤩 and the Radio Dept and PJ Harvey bagging top 10 finishes is lovely to see too. Congrats Julian on the win though, Take My Hand definitely is a lovely song. Looking forward to seeing what theme you choose next contest

Bop Idol 3.0: THE RESULTS!
Well this is definitely throwing up surprises, I would never in a million years have put Brer or Chez against their entries 😮

Bop Idol 3.0: THE RESULTS!
My fears may be realised, that's not the best start for my track to say the least!

Bop Idol 3.0: THE RESULTS!
Fun fact: The Radio Dept were the first act I ever entered to any form of BJSC <3 And yep, I knew Annie was going to be gooddelta - great choice though

I'm quite happy that people would associate me with PJ Harvey ☺️

I think I know what Rich sent... possibly because he picked it out among my playlist I made for synth pop! If it wasn't him then I would imagine he'd give that particular track quite a lot of points. Incidentally, with me including it on said playlist, it just shows how certain I was that it was in fact one of the artist/band's key singles, so colour me most shocked when I saw it pop up in this contest 😂

Bop Idol 3.0 Voting
Great! Looking forward to seeing how this pans out... I'm expecting to do quite badly but we'll see, I think I underestimated how big some of the acts would be that have been entered (not grumbling as everything fitted the theme fine etc) but I did smile when I saw the list after being worried that my own entry could get vetoed for being cheap 😂

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
Oh yes of course it was! That's one of the earliest memories of music for me, and it is still one of my favourite ever songs now 😍

UK EOY Box Office - 2024
Happy to see Wicked end up as the biggest film of the year. I did see the top two at the cinema and I definitely thought Wicked was the better of the two... Inside Out 3 was a nice film but I was a bit underwhelmed (maybe too high expectations) where as I didn't have too high expectations about Wicked and I ended up loving every minute of it - it was miles better than I would have ever anticipated it would be and a very worthy winner here

I think it's one thing having it shortened in context on the site - it's another thing having members (some quite young) having site messages coming to their home screen with it, I can only imagine what their parents may think if they saw it!
