  1. I’m a few listens in and have come round to thinking this is one of the best songs this year. Love the change in style and love how the song itself switches things up, really impressive composition <3

I've caught up on this and I wish it was a better stand alone episode that focused on the wish world and did more around that, other signs than just the mugs etc... and less characters involved so it was able to better focus on the slow realisation that the world wasn't real. As Severin said, I guess that would have been a bit similar to Wandavision but I think it could have been a strong episode... As it was, I'm not really sure what I thought. There was a lot going on and I didn't enjoy the concept that the whole thing had been set up just to get doubt, it just felt like such an unnecessarily convoluted thing to have as a plot device just to get to an excuse to make a fake world collapse. But I'll reserve full judgement until the finale has happened.

  6. Nelly Furtado for me but agree this is a strong final 3… although my fave leading is not okay!
  7. I'm not sure where I stand on this one... I think I like the production but I'm not sure I'm feeling the lyrics. It's not bad though.

  9. Despite knowing the theme in advance, I have absolutely no idea what to send to this. All the things I've thought of so far have actually had a second single that scraped top 20 for a week grrr!

I wasn't expecting anything like that from them... it sounds quite different at first but then the more it went on, the more I felt it was related to tracks like F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E
  11. Together Again <3 Quite amazing really that Elton was still selling 47K at this late stage, usually these things peak and then fall off quickly once people have moved on.
  12. 1000! Well done! I’ll try to contribute one for the milestone ☺️
  13. At the time I would have loved to see Til Death Do Us Part as a single. The production has admittedly dated quite badly, but the structure and melody are both strong <3
  14. Pacific State is an absolute anthem <3 <3
  15. One that I looked for the other day was the 00s remix of Lou Reed’s ‘Satellite of Love’. I remember radio hammering it at the time, and me being surprised it wasn’t a bigger hit.

…or maybe I was wrong as it’s now up for presale as a black vinyl edition for £64.99! So it was a £25 mark up for the RSD version, pretty exploitative as I can’t see any reason why it should be that much more
  17. I like that Chris Rea track. I don’t really know many others aside from Road to Hell and Auberge but both of those are good. The Lisa Stansfield song is okay. It’s not particularly stand out in terms of that style of song though - even though I can see why it probably sounded different to most of the other pop in 1989
  18. I heard this tonight for the first time and my initial impression was that it was absolutely terrible, just a complete mess of a track with really poor staging to top it off.
  19. That’s exactly what I thought too - all their clips seemed to be them in the same location and it definitely made it seem like they don’t continue
  20. I didn't recognise that Living in a Box song from the title but just listening and I do indeed recall it, it's quite pleasant for what it is but nothing remarkable. Forgot to mention previously that I do really enjoy Street Tuff, I was a big fan of this sort of fun sound with Rebel MC and the likes of Betty Boo <3
  21. That's one of my favourite Belinda Carlisle songs, think it is very underrated. Her second album was pretty good to be fair, barely a bad track on it
  22. ^^ That's the cover I choose to use for Born This Way on any playlist I make, the gagacycle must be eliminated
  23. Agree with Bjork that Personal Jesus missing the top 10 is one of the strangest things about 1989. It's such a striking and strong song and with it being the first new single for a while, it deserved to do so much better. Lovesong is also one of my favourite singles of the year, it's a pretty simple lyric from the Cure but it's so lovely and effective.
  24. Just finished it and it was okay I guess, but somewhat ironically it's definitely not a story I'll remember.
  25. Never Ever sold much more than I would have guessed in its first week! That Hot Chocolate song is very irritating indeed, I'd have happily let that one stay in the 70s. Help The Aged was a good song, although it was definitely not quite on the same level as the Different Class singles... and as for Celine/Barbra, Hanson and Ocean Colour Scene, I genuinely can't remember a thing about them
