I can’t pretend to be boycotting it because I’m in a bit too deep but I attended for the last 3 years and had booked hotels to go again this year but decided not to when it was revealed Israel were staying. And I thought I’d feel the most intense FOMO this week but I actually don’t. I hadn’t even listened to every entry until 2 weeks ago compared to the last two years where I’ve reacted to every entry on my YouTube channel within 48 hours of release. The whole situation really has put a huge damage on the contest and it’s gonna take a lot to bring it back (but the ever hopeful optimist in me still hopes it can). Those NY Times revelations, while they’re not wildly shocking, are really upsetting. The lengths that they have gone to to keep them around is worse than indifference, it’s an active campaign of support. Really gross.

I actually don’t think I agree anymore that people aren’t connecting with current music as much as I think people are lazier than ever with seeking new music out. This is evidenced by how long it takes some songs to be a hit - Rein Me In doesn’t sound any different to how it did at the start of its run. They want it to come to them on TikTok or a movie because Spotify doesn’t really encourage new music. You create a playlist, you stick to putting that on every day and if you’re not actively searching for new stuff, then you continue to regurgitate that same material until a format like TikTok forces something else upon you.

SHE DID IT!!! 11 months after release - I couldn’t have EVER imagined it would’ve reached top 10. I was genuinely just happy when it made its first appearance in the top 100 so she had a charting song for the era. Best song of the decade deserved this x

This is how I feel, honestly. I could watch a film about Donald Trump that stops at him presenting The Apprentice, and stops before his time as a president inciting war but I’d still be aware of what happened after. So I would feel uncomfortable to watch a film of an alleged child abuser and I find it mildly alarming how well his music is doing again, whilst that is a big part of his character. Because I can’t ignore thinking about it myself but I’m just me. That being said, I recognise we’re discussing probably the biggest musician to ever live and a man with a very interesting story. And I never like to police what people do and don’t listen to when it comes to whether people feel comfortable listening to musicians who have committed crimes - that’s a choice.

I’m really tempted by a K-Pop song I discovered on Friday which has been lodged in my head ever since but I’ve been burnt by K-Pop before and I’m not sure how it’d fare.

I understand he is the biggest musician of all time but I really don’t think I could possibly watch something that brushes over the child abuse like it was never a thing and it really startles me that his star outweighs SO many people’s will to care about that side of things so much.

As I said in the green room thread, your personal chart is always so in line with my taste that I was looking forward to you finally sending something pop that I was likely to vote for and here we are! I know it’s easy to say in hindsight but I did toy with you for the bottom of my top 10 prediction - probably would’ve gone for like 12th but to win by such a margin as a shock winner is impressive.
