  1. Well this is just absolutely gorgeous. The attention to detail in the production too, a towering accompliment to Polachek's immense vocals. *.*
  2. This is the strategy that I have the most deep concern over, it's essentially the one adopted by Cambridge Analytica in the 2016 referendum where you can quite effectively adapt your message in order to play to all crowds, taking whatever opinion you know will play the most favourably with a particular slice of the electorate even if it would really put off another. Reform are playing on the apathy that grows stronger in the political vacuum that we find ourselves in. They need to be called out for what they are: grifters. As for the death penalty, I don't believe that there is a strong consensus for it here in the UK - indeed it's a fairly polarised discussion, especially by those who have been the victims of or impacted by horrific crimes, clearly. However, I feel incredibly strongly opposed to it and furthermore feel that there is no place in a civilised society for it. Tell me why has Ian Huntley tried to take his own life many times? Could it be that rather than giving in to our very basic and reactionary instincts of revenge, that the ultimate justice is having to live with what you've done for the rest of your life.
  3. I voted 'Left-wing'. I definitely haven't always been in that category throughout my life, though I've always had strong liberal views and beliefs. When I was younger I would have put myself in the more centrist category on economic issues, but I think that changed significantly after the 2010s and I've gradually drifted more left on that area over time. I now firmly believe that critical assets (water, energy, rail/public transport/major infrastructure) that are a public good* - should be owned by the public and ran not for profit, but for the benefit of wider society with investments to safeguard their operation into the future. I do think that the wealthiest should pay more towards improving the outcomes for the wider community (be it public third spaces, health outcomes, or education), and those who are able to, pay toward providing a robust safety net for those who are unable to work. Honestly, the 2017 Labour manifesto was the first that has ever chimed so well with my values, and will always be incredibly sad to me remembering how close we came to genuniely getting that. *and natural monopolies.
  4. I wasn't sure which genre to put this new single in, but this new single from Brittney is more of a dancefloor orientated serve compared to her usual flair but I'm loving it all the same. She's described this as orchestral Black dance music and it melds her incredible violin playing and vocals with frantic club beats.
  5. The synth that drives through this reminds me of Boards of Canada or Aphex Twin's “Rhubarb”, gives a real melancholic vibe to the whole thing. <3 So many great touchstones of early 90s shoegaze and artists like Cocteau Twins in all of her work. Really looking forward to this album!

  7. “Out Of The Blue” entered the UK singles chart the same week as “Windowlicker”, just 2 places apart (14 and 16). It was also the week that I went to Our Price to buy the New Radicals single “You Get What You Give”, I only had enough money for 1 CD single, and I've still got it.. that kick started my love of the charts and I started my own personal chart later that year. Sadly most of the charts 1999-2006 are lost to time as my Dad threw away all the paper copies I had when they moved house. 😥 Just over a month later Veracocha (another Corsten alias) came out with another of my 1999 favourites “Carte Blanche” which peaked at #22 - joining the absolute classic #22s of the 90s like “Papua New Guinea” and “LoveShy”. As for my favourite single, it's probably Joy Division's “Love Will Tear Us Apart” - it was introduced to me by my Dad singing "Giggs, Giggs - will tear you apart" in the early 90s. I've been lucky enough to see it performed live by New Order at Latitude festival in 2016 and it was an absolutely amazing moment. I also have the 40th anniversary 12” vinyl of the single released in 2020 framed. That makes it.. 45 years!
  8. James K has announced her new album Friend which is due out 5th September on AD 93. Last year she spoilt us with the spellbinding “Blinkmoth (July Mix)” and “Hypersoft Lovejinx Junkdream” - this following up 2023s wonderful collab with hoodie “Scorpio”. The two singles from 2024 are on the new album, along with this brand new single “Play”. So pleased that she's finally got the album announced as I've pretty much been obsessed with everything she has released over the last few years. <3
  9. There's another new single out today called “Where to Look” and she has confirmed that both tracks are from a new EP called Dancing Shoes out next month (2 July)! I think she's supporting Lorde in the autumn if anyone is going to those tour dates in Europe. Video appears to glitch out a bit in the middle for me. Gorgeous hook-y chorus on this!
  10. TDJ/Clara Kimera, Sofia Kourtesis/Daphni, Pangaea, cell m8 - BuzzJack's Queen of electronica serving up some absolute summer belters this month. Oh my at the tie last month being so big that it needs its own playlist!

  14. Doctor Blind posted a post in a topic in Dance and Electronic
New single from TDJ and Parisian producer/vocalist Clara Kimera “On and On (You Lie)”. Sounds like the melancholic vocal trance that would have been A-listed at R1 in 2003 and made the Top 40.

  16. It's so good. The production is incredible, and I am also loving the trip hop influences that are inspiring a new generation of artists. Need her to do a collab with James K!
  17. Thank you for hosting @Jade , really enjoyed this edition and following along now - apologies for missing this live but it was a busy few days at work. 4th is by a mile my best ever finish in this so that is quite a result! I knew this theme was always going to yield a strong field for me so I'm very pleased with that whole Top 5, congrats to Rich on an emphatic win. @Brer Ruby Haunt was very much my vibe so cheers for sending! xx Thanks to those who pointed “300 Dreams”, very much recommend the After EP if you enjoyed. Also: crushed's “Waterlily” which has a similar lush, dreamy atmosphere to it. *.*
  18. I have that Sonny J track on CD Single. It was the era when I bought all my personal chart #1s on single, and I was convinced that it was going to be a hit with strong Radio 1 backing. A bit like Peter Bjorn And John the previous year (which did at least sneak into the Top 40 at #35). I can't remember if it was the 2007 original or the 2008 re-release but I have a feeling it was the original (when it made #80 in October 2007). I loved them so much that I also bought the follow-ups “Enfant Terrible” (which only made #20 for me) and “Hands Free (If You Hold My Hand)” (which stalled at #2 behind Elbow's “One Day Like This” in June 2008), strangely both of those are available to stream! Here's the sample btw: A couple that I wish were on streaming/for sale: Lisa Lougheed “Run With Us” Not a hit at all, however I’m not sure if it ever got a release in the UK. I've got an mp3 rip from a 7” vinyl that someone kindly uploaded, but it'd be nice to have it available more widely to the public.. a childhood favourite for me! Zoë “Lightning” The only single in chart history to peak with 3 weeks at #37, that's iconic enough for it to deserve to be on streaming services. Also I need it to complete my meteorologically themed playlist. ⚡ Sunscreem “Love U More” They've put the album version up, but I prefer the single mix with its drums & twinkly intro. Why no single mix when they've put the single mixes for “Perfect Motion” and “Please Save Me”? The latter barely made the Top 40. I had to get the original CD single from discogs so I could have the original mix.
  19. Debby missing out by just 6 points! </3 Aw 😢 Thanks for the hostings Josh, great job and the most enjoyable contest for a very long time. x
  20. Oh my at the 18 from Scotland 2 and an exact max point swap this month! *.* Thank you @!!!
  21. I love that it's a shady diss track about 'The Dare' but also shamelessly rips off LCD Soundsystem's “Losing My Edge” video is just the icing on the cake!
  22. Hypedd! Really can't call this one at all because there are a lot of strong contenders, but I'm living vicariously through Debby Friday/Neliönoir for the win.
  23. Thanks again to those who voted in the March poll, and to @k👠th for the work in putting it together. Last month was a closely fought battle that resulted in a tie for the win between Avalon Emerson's energetic and groovy “Treat Mode” and Debby Friday's shimmering “1/17” with 4 voters each. Congrats to both! Please now vote for your favourite in the tie-break, as well as for up to 3 of your favourites from our April poll below. Enjoy, and happy listening! This month our contenders are as follows: April 2025 akiaura, LONOWN & Baby Jane “Deathwish” Charlotte de Witte “The Realm” Cheetah & Nia Archives “Get Loose” Dj Cinéma Quartier Latin “Never Ending Story” DOVE & Kehina “CHROMA 009 KR36” Effy “2011” FUKHED “l-o-l-o-l-o” HVOB “Void” Introspekt “The Transmission” jamesjamesjames “one in a million” KETTAMA “Gotta Have It” LAZE “Feel n say” Leon Vynehall ft. POiSON ANNA “Mirror's Edge” Mount Palomar ft. Karla Chubb “L’Aliment” MRD “Feel The Rain” No_4mat “Energy Angels (On Earth)” Rival Consoles “Known Shape” SHERELLE ft. George Riley “Freaky (Just My Type)” Surusinghe “FTRW!” Willo “Uno”
  24. Not sure, she said it was 'the first single' but then on the actual single package it comes backed with “Like I Say (I runaway)” and “Method Actor” so who knows. I hope that it's part of a new project, anyway it is stunning as per. I really love the drums in this.
