  1. Minnie Riperton <3 They play that a lot on Lauren's cloudbusting segment on 6Music, never fails to brighten up any morning and instantly make me feel better. Hope it storms into the final! I also know a few others here, L.S.G.'s “Hearts” is a trance classic that I recently discovered thanks to a cover by Danish DJ, Najaaraq Vestbirk (aka Courtesy). Anyway a strong semi and sent my votes in already as I'll be away for the weekend until Tuesday next week.
  2. It is now exactly one year since Rishi Sunak become PM. He came to power just a little under 2 months after losing to his predecessor, who then went on to lose to a lettuce. In that time and using his stunning mandate which amounts to 'fuck all from nobody' he has cancelled and salted the earth on the entire northern leg of the HS2 rail line plan between Birmingham and Manchester, a short-term decision that he made inexplicably from Manchester, and proceeded to gaslight the public by suggesting he hadn't made a decision before he went there (spoiler: that was a lie) and that it was a 'brave, difficult long-term decision'. He has presided over one of the most right wing and cruel governments when it comes to immigration, allowing the Home Secretary and others to use dangerous and divisive rhetoric that it took Gary Lineker of all people to call out. Have your thoughts changed on how successful he may be (an election must be held by January 2025) and has he done enough to erase the trauma of the UK's shortest-serving PM that crashed the economy 12 months ago? Will his swing behind anti-green and culture war agenda be enough to prop up the last gasp of a dying zombie government?

The album is really beautiful, gotta let it sit with me for a while but overall I'm very impressed. “Spirit 2.0” (also his daughter's favourite track) is one of my favourite singles of the year, but I'm also really enjoying the jungle elements on “Can't Go Back”, the new single “Only”, the opener plus the wonderful “Dancing Circles” which just builds and builds. Probably gonna discover many more favourites in the coming days <3

  5. Btw Voodoo, just FYI: Douglas Murray is a well known Islamaphobe, I wouldn't share or take anything he says seriously, he said something like 'Europe is being snuffed out by hordes of Muslim immigrants'. He's got popular from his controversial takes, but he lacks critical thought and makes very sloppy arguments IMO.

  8. Yes, absolutely agree. Using a nebulous concept of 'self-defence' as justification for breaking the Geneva convention is completely wrong and a slippery slope. It's also counter-productive, just as the actions of Hamas were last weekend. It will simply generate just more bad feeling, create yet more martyrs and support the murderous propaganda that Hamas spout. 9/11 was a provocation which America took the bait for. It doesn't have to be like this, the cycle can and must be broken.
  9. That was Ed Miliband's mantra! You're right, keeping expectations low can be a very clever tactic, but it's just not very inspiring. I would much prefer someone to be honest and say 'well we may not achieve all of these things but we will at least AIM towards them'. Starmer appears timid and defeatist, which is convenient for those who are resistent to change. In 1979 there was (like it or not) definitely a public appetite for the type of politics that Thatcher embodied following the Winter of Discontent, which marked the start of the 'neoliberal' economic era, just like the public mood following World War 2 in 1945 was for 'winning the peace' by creating a more fair and equal society. I believe that we have entered another turning point, but nobody yet has stepped up with the confidence and boldness to tap into that change.
  10. I voted for 'Celebrating the Rise of Woman & Non-Binary People in Music' Although I would also be a fan of 'Techno & Artistic / Experimental Electronica' which is essentially just the HATE YouTube channel, amirite?
  11. I didn't say dictator, that was your choice of term.. which is, interesting. Although for the record Putin did have a gap of 4 years between terms from 2008 to 2012. But by silencing the moderates and kowtowing to the extremists in order to cling to power, he has made a pretty volatile and dangerous situation much much worse for the region. Climate breakdown and associated mass migrations in the following decades will only exacerbate this problem and I really don't see any peaceful resolution or way forward now sadly.

Liquid Child “Diving Faces” 36 was the biggest drama for me, I wanted all of “Encore Une Fois” “Beetlebum” “What Do You Want From Me?” and “Your Woman” as well as the eventual victor to win. They really don't make Now's like that anymore.. My first Now was 20 which my Uncle bought for me on cassette tape, and I remember playing “Go” by Moby and “It’s Grim Up North” loads - that really sparked my interest in music.
  13. @1711738276309069851 I found it pretty uninspiring and dull tbh, they aren't going to be able to do anything radical and therefore little fundamentally will actually change. But yeah, whatever - if it means we are rid of the Tories for a decade (hopefully more) I'm IN.
  14. Interesting that Haaretz place the blame for this horrific disaster firmly at Benjamin Netanyahu's door. @1711185184177975447 Crazy to think that he is still Prime Minister, yet was first elected as PM in 1996 (yes, before Putin). How many other democracies have the same PM nearly 28 years later?

I absolutely love “React” - I'm also a bit obsessed with her live coding performances tbh. 8vGjGJpNX6M
  16. Ooh, so Deee-lite did make it in the end then! I am very pleased about that naturally. Predictably I'm favouring Disc 1, if not for the Together/LFO/Orbital/Bass-o-Matic/DNA power punch but the lead out from Depeche Mode. <3 (it couldn't be anything else really?) A few I don't know so I'll seek those out. Will you be aiming to do similar for the rest of the 1990s?

  18. On a similar theme, it's interesting to me that there are those who claim to have "genuine concerns" and feel the need to speak out over the safety of children/adolescents wrt puberty blockers, yet also have absolutely nothing to say over those same people who are suffering from suicidal thoughts due to their gender dysphoria. It doesn't come from a place of love that they believe or want you to believe it does. Sadly it is because they are framing everything through their transphobia and conveniently only listening to and raising concerns when they support their own bigotry, their own stupidity induced confirmation bias. The speech yesterday from Suella was horrific, and that Tory politician being kicked out by the Police for merely disagreeing with her was incredibly worrying to see. The whole unhinged moral panic, just sick of it.
  19. I suspect the savings from scrapping HS2 (the important part of it, the bit that was actually going to lead to the greater amount of economic growth- particularly for the north of England) will be used to fund tax cuts for the wealthy for the forthcoming General Election. It's also just Sunak isn't very good at politics, surely the blowback from this was cause far more damage than any gains he's hoping for, not to mention it completely flies in the face of his 'difficult long term decisions' case when he's doing the exact opposite. However, cost of borrowing for the Government continued to surge upwards in the last few days. He is Sunakkered and I am SO here for it blowing up in their faces.
  20. A final judgement has been made.
  21. Ooh, I'll be interested to see what you pick for this Colm. I hope we'll be getting LFO “LFO [Leeds Warehouse Mix]” and Orbital “Chime” and maybe a bit of Blue Pearl “Naked In The Rain”. But LFO is ESSENTIAL.

I'm pleased that they've both been suspended, hopefully it will lead to both being sacked but given the 'standards' that GBNews has I won't hold up too much hope, apparently Dan's binfire of a show pulls in the most viewers for some bizarre reason, maybe they tune in to see if he can go an entire show without blinking. In the case of Dan Wootton in particular it is especially long overdue, the channel have done nothing to address all of the very serious and credible allegations (including of blackmail) published by Byline Times and others against him. He's a bully, a throughly toxic person and frankly doesn't deserve the platform he has. Apparently he was calling Ava repeatedly after the show went out and left a voicemail at 1am, this despite the fact that she had never given him her number. As for the comments from 'lozza', pretty disgusting but the kind of predictable rubbish he comes out with. I did enjoy this clapback from Ash yesterday however: @1706932642304667945 Ava is a respected journalist first and foremost. Critique or oppose her views by all means, but the way she was just reduced to her appearance (even Dan did with his 'defence' of Laurence's comments) was awful, and there was absolutely no effort to seriously discuss what she had said, she was simply attacked for her views and the whole segment simply used as a vehicle for their misogyny.
