  1. There's no way this isn't gonna go to penalties!! :)

Croatia's last 2 KO games have gone to penalties!

I am less confident about this than I was about Sweden, Croatia have been impressive so far. I expect it'll either go to penalties or Croatia will sneak through with a 2-1 win. I hope I'm wrong though!

Whatever happens the team have another game definitely (the 3rd place playoff) and can come home with their heads held high. : )

The last meeting of the two countries in 2009 was a massive 5-1 defeat for Croatia but that was a WC qualifier, and may have been revenge for the qualification game against them for Euro 2008 (Steve 'Wally with the Brolly' McClaren).

  2. I wouldn't consider Belgium a traditionally big team so would like them or Croatia to win and England to do well and get to the final!

I know this isn't the sports forum but I agree- someone new winning it like Belgium or Croatia would be fantastic (if England can't of course :P )

  3. From what I read, Froome won't be popular at all during the Tour de France. I hope nothing serious happens.

Well he crashed in Stage 1, thankfully fine to race on - but the spectators were cheering...

Hopefully Cav can bag a win today!

  4. “Shotgun” sold 18,132 paid-for downloads last week so roughly 2.5K/day. “3 Lions” is currently selling around 4 times as much (1.23/0.30) so probably looking at around 10K sales today.

To push “Shotgun” down to 0.1, they'd have to be selling 25000 a day which seems a little unlikely ! :P

  5. Westminster voting intention:

    CON: 41% (-1)

    LAB: 40% (+3)

    LDEM: 9% (-)

    UKIP: 3% (-)

    GRN: 2% (-1)

Labour closing the gap, looking pretty much neck-and-neck with the Tories still - and IMO - unlikely to change that much before the end of the year (unless there are any black swans etc.)

  6. Are there any other non-3 Lions songs by the Lightning Seeds in the iTunes chart? It's sad that a lot of people couldn't name any other songs by that wonderful band.

I love “Life of Riley” - the instrumental was used on the BBCs Goal of the Month during the mid 90s a lot.

that '30 years of hurt line' is there for a reason

Yes, that's true - imagine now waiting until 2046 for another shot at a World Cup semi-final.

If there is still a habitable planet by then of course.

Here is the chart for 5 July 1992... with Top 5 debuts for Smart E's(!) and Jimmy Nail - at the time the #3 debut by Christopher Howell, Tom Orton and Nick Arnold (Smart E's) was the joint-highest ever for a uncharted act matching the #3 debut by Crystal Waters' “Gypsy Woman” a year earlier. The track is based around the piano refrain from the theme from Sesame Street and latched on to the so-called Toytown Techno trend of remixing children's TV theme/information films into rave tracks that was started with The Magic Roundabout sampling Mark Summers “Summers Magic” in 1990. That was eventually a #27 hit early the following year - and was followed quickly by the Prodigy's “Charley” which stormed into the UK Top 10 months later. This trend appeared to reach its peak this month with the #11 by Urban Hype “A Trip To Trumpton” being a remix of the theme from Trumpton, and would the following week jump to #6. No idea why Jimmy Nail was so popular at the time (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet?) but “Ain't No Doubt” was his first hit in 7 years, went straight in at #5 and would be the song that would depose the current #1 the following week.

Erasure sat at number 1 for their fifth and final week at the chart summit with their only ever #1 in a career of 16 Top 10 hits - The “ABBA-Esque EP” - a four track EP of ABBA covers, featuring among others “Take a Chance on Me” which was played in the re-cap at the head of the show and “Lay All Your Love On Me” which was played at the end, and was the one I assume with most of the video/airplay, although videos were made for all four tracks.

Lots of other new entries here, including the rather bizarre but wonderful Was (Not Was) at 20 with Kim Bassinger and Ozzy Osbourne on vocal duties- I kid you not!

Bit surprised at that to be honest, thought he might have swapped Dele out.

    Good job he didn't!

A pretty good game to watch, though as others have pointed out Sweden weren't exactly great and apart from a few chances never really looked like scoring. We have a really strong chance at getting to the final for the first time in almost 3 decades but I don't want to jinx it. Whatever happens from now on, this performance at the WC will go down in history and that is something that the team fully deserve all the credit and support they are receiving, credit due also to Pickford who many were quick to write-off earlier in the tournament - he's certainly silenced the critics and earned his place in the squad.

Sterling was the only disappointment for me, he really should have scored on more than one occasion. Hopefully he is saving it as Lineker suggested for a critical moment later on.

Also - England are GUARANTEED* two more games whatever happens so hopefully Kane has a good shout for the golden boot! : )

*Third place playoff game on 14 July if they lose the semi-final.
