In other EU related news, a former Daily Mail hack, James Chapman, has been trying to build up momentum for a new political party called "Democrats", which from what I can gather is a Macron-inspired centrist party which is avowedly pro-EU, which hopes to pick up support both from Remain-leaning Tories, as well as from Labour members unhappy about Corbyn's gung-ho attitude towards a hard Brexit. They're due to launch next month, and despite them not technically existing as a political party yet, they've had some "success", so to speak, with one betting firm giving them 200-1 odds of getting the most seats at the next general election (for comparison's sake, Ukip is currently as 250-1).
I will be surprised if this takes off beyond the initial momentum for several reasons. The main one being that an avowedly pro-EU party, the Lib Dems, barely made any gains in June when they ran on that platform. Secondly, the FPTP system would keep them from gaining any real seats, unless they were able to gain a few defections from current MPs (and if they did, the two that have been mentioned as possible turncoats, Heidi Allen & Anna Soubry, would go down like a lead balloon among quite a few people). And let's not forget what happened to the SDP. The other issue is that I'm not sure whether the name would get past the Electoral commission, as they may view the name "Democrats" as too generic, and possibly too similar to current UK parties, so I imagine a change of name may be in order before next month.
They'd get more votes by simply rebranding the Liberal Democrats as the following:

The car market is joining the housing market as being gamed by dodgy lending:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/sear...=clnk&gl=uk
The amount of money being borrowed to buy new cars has trebled over the past eight years to more than £30bn and there are growing concerns over the lack of financial checks made on potential borrowers.Motorists can be offered loans worth more than their own salaries in a growing scandal which has echoes of the sub-prime mortgage boom which helped spark the global financial crisis.
I'm sure it's all under control though.

I am really properly gutted about Cumulonimbia because my top 2 were soooooo close and Cumulonimbia were actually ahead on my first listen, those extra 2 points would have actually seen them through. Maybe my new favourite DNQ of the year (or 2nd to 'Touched By The Sun').
Don't be, I'm just glad that you made a great discovery out of it Bré!
Really happy that Primitive Radio Gods made it through. Excellent. : )

Eeeek typo at the worst moment! I don't see a rate rise at all this year and I think we're more likely to see a 0.15% or 0% next year than a rise.
Agreed.
Actually I quite like what Yellen has done at the Fed, by raising three times to 1% she has given the US a little more wriggle room once the inevitable slowdown comes either later this year or in 2018; however the Bank of England are well and truly fucked! :D
-
I can see us ending 2017 on 0.5% with the real possibility of a decrease in 2018 if we enter a recession.
You really think Carney will increase from 0.25% - interest rates haven't risen in 10 years and I can't see it happening anytime soon as the anaemic growth in the economy - fuelled almost entirely by debt - would immediately start to be choked out and house prices would collapse as new mortgages plummeted and existing ones started to be defaulted on. We're stuck with 0.25% rates for the foreseeable IMO and it is going to screw over anyone who is currently under 45.

It's not surprising state pension age will increase, it'd have to be done sooner or later given life expectancy increases. The way it's been announced isn't good though.Hm, I expect life expectancy may actually have peaked and we may see a slight fall in the coming decades due to huge (and growing) levels of obesity.
