Work should really be a lot higher than #27, disappointing to see they haven't included streams again. (similarly with 'This')
With streams included I get:
01 “We Found Love” (1.6 million)
02 “Love The Way You Lie” (1.42 million)
03 “This Is What You Came For” (1.34 million)
04 “Diamonds” (1.27 million)
05 “Only Girl (In The World)” (1.25 million)
06 “Work” (1.18 million)
07 “Too Good” (1.04 millon)
08 “The Monster”
09 “Umbrella”
10 “What's My Name?”

The week this entered the chart with 284,000 copies in week 1, System F debuted at 14 with “Out Of The Blue” and Aphex Twin’s “Windowlicker” was new at 16. Both of those are FAR better IMO!

I don't really like 'Cloudbusting', it was much better as a dance tune as 'Everytime It Rains', it had a disco house style climax which was different to the original 1985 song between 1:12 - 1:42 on this version. I don't know why they got rid of that, it was the best part of it imo, now it is just a straight cover, it really didn't need to have all the lyrics of the original song in it!.
Never been this disappointed by a re-arranged release before :(
It was CLEARLY much better as this:

This discussion reminds of the Adam Curtis documentary where he stated that Vladislav Surkov (one of President Putin's advisers) was simply orchestrating a circus of misinformation designed to keep people totally confused and disorientated.
To quote AC
His [Vladislav Surkov]aim is to undermine peoples' perceptions of the world, so they never know what is really happening.Surkov turned Russian politics into a bewildering, constantly changing piece of theater. He sponsored all kinds of groups, from neo-Nazi skinheads to liberal human rights groups. He even backed parties that were opposed to President Putin.
But the key thing was, that Surkov then let it be known that this was what he was doing, which meant that no one was sure what was real or fake. As one journalist put it: "It is a strategy of power that keeps any opposition constantly confused."
A ceaseless shape-shifting that is unstoppable because it is undefinable. It is exactly what Surkov is alleged to have done in the Ukraine this year. In typical fashion, as the war began, Surkov published a short story about something he called non-linear war. A war where you never know what the enemy are really up to, or even who they are. The underlying aim, Surkov says, is not to win the war, but to use the conflict to create a constant state of destabilized perception, in order to manage and control.

I bought this at the time primarily for “I Like To Move It” (and because I am very old) - but 1 star? For an album that contains the Smashing Pumpkins “Disarm” - that is worth 2 stars ALONE surely?
“Linger” by the Cranberries and “Cornflake Girl” by Tori Amos.. these are definitely not 1 hit-wonders, The Cranberries had at least 1 other hit!! Oh and “Rocks” is also a BANGER.

'÷' will most certainly beat that, with at least double that amount of streams. At least, if he released another single now by the way and that achieved near the levels of streaming the other two singles had he'd already be generating around 20K in made-up streaming album sales. !

I don't think Leicester will get relegated but I was left with a state of shock watching that match, what a difference a year makes! I hope Claudio Ranieri doesn't get sacked.
Looks like they are going to comfortably beat Chelsea's record of worst finish for the champions of the Premier League (10th).

It's definitely got a 1990s vibe to it, elements of the poppier side of rave at points (the synth pads, the vocal structure of the chorus). It's like a (way inferior) version of this '92 classic:
So odd to be talking about it here in February when I was listening to it back in April 2016 in Australia!
BillyH, did you know that the vocals in this were reversed by Orbital to create (released later in 1992)?

After years of collaborations with major artists like Drake and Kanye West, 28 year-old South Londoner Sampha finally released his debut LP Process on Friday (3rd); an album which features current single “(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano” which blasts 8-1 this week to become the third #1 of 2017, and previous #1 hit “Blood On Me” which falls off from 48 this week after 22 weeks on the chart. The track is a beautifully simple ballad that puts his childhood piano centre-stage against the backdrop of a barely perceptible synth that slowly builds, and it was inspired by his mother who sadly passed away after a battle with cancer in September 2015.
This means that Run The Jewels are deposed after a fortnight in pole-position with “Legend Has It” and slide 1-2, and Elbow hold 3-3 with “Magnificent (She Says)” - the first single from seventh album Little Fictions which as with Process was also released on Friday - it is the groups biggest hit since 2012 and their recorded BBC theme for the London 2012 Olympics coverage “First Steps” which made #2.
There are two new tracks in the Top 10 this week; the first becomes the sixth Top 10 for British group The xx who leap 12-7 with “Say Something Loving” - following “On Hold” (this week, down 6-9 on its thirteenth week) and matching the peak scaled by debut single “Basic Space” which made No. 7 in September 2009. The second entrant is by Texas rock band Spoon who first made the Top 10 with “You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb” way back in December 2007 - it took them a further 7 years to make the Top 10 which they did in 2014 with the fantastic “Do You” (#2 in September 2014) which became by far their biggest hit. Even more impressively this week new single “Hot Thoughts”, the title track from their forthcoming ninth LP, races 19-10 to credit them a third Top 10 hit.
BIGGEST CLIMBER: This week the honour is taken by Edinburgh based hip hop group Young Fathers who look to emulate previous successes by leaping 17 places from 33-16 this week with “Only God Knows” with a little help from Leith Congregational Choir. Other double digit climbs are posted by Moon Duo with the excellent “Creepin’” (up 11, 35-24), Father John Misty with the politically charged “Pure Comedy” (up 14, 41-27), the new single from Bonobo w/ Nick Murphy entitled “No Reason” (up 12, 40-28) and finally Cigarettes After Sex with “Affection” leaping 11 to No. 34.
DEBUTS: Eight new songs to the chart this week - the charge is led by debuts from Sylvan Esso and Future Islands with “Kick Jump Twist” and “Ran” at 35 and 38 respectively, but there are long overdue returns from London Grammar (“Big Picture” at 45) and Goldfrapp (“Anymore” at 43) - the latter having not charted since February 2012: “Melancholy Sky”, and the former since May 2014: “Hey Now”. Full chart follows...

Omg i had that exact thought earlier today. It's so true tho. We're cozying up to the giant cheeto and providing arms to turkeys dictator. Our country has gone to the dogsIndeed, almost as bad as cosying up Hungary - an EU member state lest we forget since 2004 - that recently shut down the only media that dared to criticise the Viktor Orbán rightwing government.
The EU have done sweet fuck all to reprimand them about the atrocious treatment of refugees, choosing instead to have endless debates about Brexit.
-
Great to see Parquet Courts, The xx and Santigold here - “Can’t Get Enough of Myself” was a hit for me in 2015 so did not make the 2016 list, but both of the others were firm Top 10s; “Berlin Got Blurry” got to #7 in June and “On Hold” became The xx's first number 1 (though Jamie xx has had 4 on his own) when it went to #1 in December and also became my Christmas #1 for 2016.
-
Update for 2016 (added to list above)
- Radiohead score a 5th #1 with “Burn The Witch” topping the chart for 3 weeks in June/July; their first for 4 years.
- Yeasayer get their 4th #1 as “I Am Chemistry” spends a month at the top in February; also their first since 2012.
- Underworld enter the list for the first time, by getting a third #1 hit with “Nylon Strung” in August - their last #1 was also in 2012.
- Jamie xx adds another #1 for the third consecutive year with his 4th #1 hit “Gosh” in November. He also technically has a fifth with bandmates ‘The xx’ going to #1 for 3 weeks in December with “On Hold”.
^Technically Ellery James Roberts should be on the list as he was a part of WU LYF who hit #1 with “We Bros” in 2011, and has subsequently scored solo #1 hits as himself in 2013 (6 weeks for “Kerou's Lament (犠牲)”) and in 2014 (3 weeks for “Unites”) as well in 2016 (for 4 weeks with “I&I”) under the name 'LUH / Lost Under Heaven.' An impressive total of 4 number ones totalling 16 weeks.
That changes the leaderboard thusly (changes in red):
