The UK and transphobia
This is making me so angry, why can't they just let people be happy? So, are they suggesting that trans men should be able to participate in women's sports? Galaxy brain stuff here.

BJSC CLIII: The Final Results
Thanks for hosting Chez, you did a super job! Congrats to Lookylion, wasn't a huge fan but can kinda see the appeal. Very pleased to see Art School Girlfriend in the Top 10, Is It Dark Where You Are was on repeat in '21 and I am very much loving/am here for the new singles.. only August to wait until the album. Thank you to all those who pointed Curve, “Horror Head” is one of my favourite singles of the 1990s, I'd always wanted to share it here and felt that it was a good time now that Hatchie released a very Curve influenced single in late 2022 (and because I got beat to sending “A Place To Lie”). Still shocked that The Dare NQ'd in semi 2, I'm reading Never Be Alone Again: How Bloghouse United the Internet and the Dancefloor by Lina Abascal rn and it feels like “Good Time” would have absolutely been heating up all those blogs and climbing the hype machine in 2005-2010, getting rinsed by MTV2 then crossing over to become a minor Top 40 hit for 1 week that broke up the usual monotony for 2 minutes (the absolute peak of this was CSS's “Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above” inexplicably making number 39 between Travis and Fergie in 2007). But there were plenty of highlights here still to enjoy, particularly want to s/o Colm for sending The Magnetic Fields and the beautiful “All My Little Words”.

The UK and transphobia
I can't say I'm disappointed. To do so would suggest that I believe Stamer had any morals or prinicipals that he wouldn't be willing to drop, oh maybe except keeping capital gains tax low for the rich. Great leaders are able to shape public opinion and change their minds through convincing arguments against even unpopular opinions, weak leaders collapse at the first sign of political difficulty and bend to pressure deliberately used by the elite and the media to distract from the many political failings and huge issues that face our society. I'll likely still end up voting for them because of the way our voting system is structured, but it won't be with any enthusiasm, or hope, or any feeling in particular really apart from deep sadness about where things are going. That makes it even worse, surely? To deliberately adopt a position, signal for and campaign against something that you actually support, in order to win political support and makes things easier for yourself. I can think of a few words to describe someone like that, I'll be polite.. most of them would be starred out here.

Nabihah Iqbal - DREAMER
Really enjoying everything from this era. Amusingly for “This World Couldn't See Us” Spotify had “Zone 1 to 6000” as the B-side! Obviously she saw her iconic win on BJSC and thought that was the moment to sign to NingaTune and bang out an album x

k👠th chart - 24 March 2022
Hey Kath- hope everything goes well today. xx Great to see Art School Girlfriend at number 1- and also debuting with the equally amazing “Close To The Clouds” <3 Hopefully will do big things in the BJSC this month! Elsewhere a fantastic debut for Sofia Kourtesis and really good to see Polinski in the Top 10 (very Aphex Twin-esque atmosphere to that) and Yves Tumor making your Top 20. I really adore everything that has been released from the album and “Echolalia” is no exception - everything they release ends up massively growing on me, that sampled 80s bassline is so addictive and mind-meltingly catchy. Haven't been massively in to the new Calvin Harris single unfortunately, just something missing from it for me like he hasn't fully committed to it - but good regardless to see some trance/eurotrance adjacent music back in the chart and doing well commercially. Hopefully it is the start of a trance revival, though obv would prefer it if TDJ was leading it...

Electronic Track of the Week
My favourite new electronic release is actually “Dreams” from this double A: https://gemitunes.bandcamp.com/album/dreams-tokyo-2 But from the list it's got to be Leon Vynehall. That section 3 minutes in absolutely glorious! Glad he changed his mind on not making club music anymore.

BJSC CLIII: Semi Final Results Readthrough
I really enjoyed the concept to this contest - thanks for the effort that you put in Chez! Sadly I lost Skall, Aelandor and Beaverdonia from my vote. However my Top 5 all made it through and I'm especially pleased to see Neliönoir in the final, they have done what I failed to do and have taken Charlotte Adigéry through to a final. I'm still surprised that “High Lights” failed to connect when I sent it back in 2019, but I really enjoy “Thank You” which shares many of her same witty and cutting lyrics. I just love the whole feel of the track and how it executes its main target of misogyny; again similar to the kind of themes that Self Esteem brought out on her 2021 LP Prioritise Pleasure. The whole album it is taken from is great too, especially “Ceci n'est pas un cliché” which made my T40 of 2022! BRÉthony SLAYtano. *.* My favourite entry of yours for some time! Trans....ition. I fully endorse this! Kath to win please x

Heartworms - A Comforting Notion (EP)
Now out! Very promising EP indeed and some decent reviews coming out already. “24 Hours” in full studio HQ is pretty glorious. “Retributions Of An Awful Life” remains the massive standout but whole thing goes hard.

Electronic Track of the Week
'Madres' for me too! Sofia: This song is about my mother, her mother, my sisters who are mothers, my brothers who are mothers, and all the LGBTQIA+ members who are mothers to their communities. Madres has no gender. Madres loves to protect the ones you love. If you get lost, follow your mother’s voice, they will always bring you back. I also want to dedicate this song to Peter Vajkoczy, a brain surgeon who has become the hope of my own mother! He gives people hope by daring the most complicated surgeries in the world; he believes in miracles, love, and the strength to protect loved ones. Life goes by quickly. Life is fragile.”

Brexit II: This Time It's Irreversible
Hearing that Boris Johnson will be voting against tonight. @1638441515457433601 Hopefully when he's kicked out of Parliament in disgrace within the next few months he gets such a temper tantrum on that he takes the entire government down with him.

yunè pinku - BABYLON IX EP
I expect it will be, I haven't seen an official tracklist yet but yeah seems v likely it will be. New single “Sports” is out now and a video was just released. We will be getting the full EP on 28th April. NxcWgMdypi4

Vitesse X – Us Ephemeral
The opening reminds me of “Belfast” - tbf she did point to a lot of her influences and touchstone references for electronica being early 90s stuff like Opus III and Orbital so that would make a lot of sense. Very much looking forward to the album! I too am a huge fan of chopped vocals, when done right it's just total perfection.

BJSC CLIII: Semi Finals
Only had a listen to Semi 1 so far, am definitely here for the general vibe of “Thank You” *.* Biggest hype tho going out to Kathaldazia and Persephonia on first listenthrough. Art School Girlfriend released a new single last week called “Close To The Clouds” which is also fantastic!

Yves Tumor - Praise A Lord Who Chews..
Oh yeah of course, Diana Gordon was also featured on “Kersone!”- absolutely stunning/heavenly vocal. Although apparently it is Kidä featured on “Lovely Sewer” (that could be wrong tho, I haven't seen an official credit yet). There are tons of amazing samples in Yves Tumor's work- they must have an extensive back catalogue of great undiscovered gems. I found out from reading a few reviews that the bassline in “Echolalia” is directly sampled from this 80s track by Italian darkwave group NEON: oyUKTxeIGLU

BBTory Bias
It was the right conclusion, but it was unfortunate that it ever came to this really. The BBC has angered just about everyone; initially caving to pressure from the right wing press and parts of the UK Government and then a humiliating collapse to further pressure from its own sports team and increasing public/political pressure. It was absolutely ridiculous that you had those that have been disingenuously claiming anger at so-called 'cancel culture' shamelessly calling for him to be sacked for his comments - have some consistency in your argument. I think the Fiona Bruce situation is a little different though. I imagine that they knew that the topic of Stanley Johnson would come up and the legal team prepared that statement for her to read out. That doesn't change the optics of minimising domestic abuse with the flippant sign off 'it was a one-off' but I do understand why she had to interrupt to make it clear that Yasmin's comments were opinion and not fact, and I don't think it's consistent to call her out for that. No matter how much of a Tory shill she is xx

Winter of strikes
We'll be striking on 15 March - awkward, as it's in a run of two night shifts for me. So I'll literally be walking out at midnight! By the way, the government has been absolutely useless, this pay offer was supposed to be implemented in April 2022 (11 months ago) and they still haven't offered us anything yet with the department changing ministers every few weeks. https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/m...ke-over-8231241

The Tory fibs and fabrishications thread, Mk III
There was an article in Byline Times about the so-called impartiality of the BBC. https://bylinetimes.com/2023/03/09/gary-lin...tiality-crisis/ Lewis Goodall also explained on his Newsagents podcast how Robbie Gibb (Theresa May's former director of communications in No 10, now on the BBC board..) made his job - holding the government to account - very difficult. Probably a deciding factor in him deciding to leave. Yeah it was Lynton Crosby. It's also a very Rupert Murdoch strat. Also in 2017, Lineker tweeted out 'Bin Corbyn.' The silence from those currently outraged, for a (IMO) very much more political tweet was pretty deafening at the time.
