One of THE biggest omissions and casualties of this list is yet another Oakenfold mix - Not Over Yet from Grace (also peaking at #6) a few months later in April 1995.

    8-6-9-13-21-34-42-65 (8 weeks)

  2. Whilst we wait then, let's discuss some DANCE hits that didn't quite make the list from early 1995. First up Perfecto Allstarz (aka early Paul Oakenfold). The Skeleton in the video used to scare my sister! :D

    17-8-9-7-6-7-13-24-41-67-75 (11 weeks)

  3. Cliff Richard “The Millennium Prayer” is also a mystery - just WHO was buying it?

    27/11/1999 - #2 - 88,000

    04/12/1999 - #1 - 143,000

    11/12/1999 - #1 - 157,000

    18/12/1999 - #1 - 159,000

    25/12/1999 - #2 - 170,000

    What??!

  4. Similarly in 1992 Wet Wet Wet managed a massive #1 with “Goodnight Girl” after a series of seemingly doomed flops (#30, #37 and #56 respectively) - there seems to be a period in January/February in the new year where a band on the edge of total collapse can be given one final chance, or maybe just catch a break with a song just seems to strike a chord with the general public and runs away for no good reason.

They increased sales dramatically in week 2 and continued to increase further in week 3 which was sort of unheard of in the post-1995 chart hyping era.

  5. The shortest run for a #1 since 2010 has been:

    Underworld “Caliban’s Dream” 10-01-01-02-02-04-08-16-25-29-39-46 (12 weeks)

..which also has the distinction of being the highest debut of the 2010s on my chart when it went in at #10 on 29th July 2012 - the Sunday after the opening ceremony of the London olympics.

  6. The K-Klass remix makes the track, worth mentioning that “Rhythm Is A Mystery” was their biggest hit and despite peaking at #3 in November 1991 was not mentioned in this thread due to peaking below 2 Unlimited. They also made The Corrs’ “So Young” into a Top 10 hit in November 1998 (#6).

Well it will increase sales this week which will put it way past 600k, it will almost certainly be over the million mark in Jan. You are basically just digging for something that isn't there.

So you think the sales this week will be 88K+ ? When the current #1 on iTunes is barely selling 7K per day!? Not going to happen!

  8. You thought she'd sell 1m downloads in 4 weeks, with no performance and everything geared towards the album? If she/her label wanted single download sales she'd have been on X factor or CIN or Strictly this last few weeks. Instead the first bit of promo is basically an hour long advert for the album on the BBC the night the album dropped.

I didn't say 1 million in 4 weeks, I meant in total! Obviously it could still get there but given the rate of drop off, it's unlikely at least for many months.

  9. I'm not trying to downplay Adele's success, just commenting that I am surprised how quickly her sales have dropped off (here in the UK, whilst elsewhere she continues to dominate). I thought she'd get quite close to selling 1 million downloads with “Hello” after that first week sale, however there is no denying the single hasn't quite held up as well as other big hits from the year. I take your point that admittedly streaming has taken away a lot of her potential sales yes, but I still expected the all conquering Adele to overcome that!
  10. Well the campaign that has been going for over 12 months seems to be really successful so far doesn't it? Well apart from strengthening their propaganda and their recruitment but if you conveniently ignore that and then it's all FINE AND DANDY.

Clearly the reaction that Daesh wants, and I don't think we should give it to them but I expect we will. Predictably we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

  12. Is Xmas Day itself the biggest day for streams - I remember checking last year and the whole top 100 was 95% Xmas tracks so they may lose one days big sales I guess if you know what I mean.

Yes. 25 December 2014 was the biggest streaming day (until the massive days >400K achieved by Wiz Khalifa, Justin Bieber and Adele) with 378,523 for Mariah Carey's “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
