Club Bizarre 33: Queer & Black Dance Culture – RESULT
Welcome to the results thread for Club Bizarre 33. A huge thank you to everyone who took part/shared tracks and especially to those who helped me with the admin (listenthroughs, vetoing etc.) All of your help has really has been much appreciated by me, especially given the demanding couple of weeks that I've had. Without any further delay, I now present the result of the 33rd edition of Club Bizarre, which was themed as a celebration of Queer and Black dance culture. Here's how this works - I will announce the first 15 voters with a scoreboard after every 5 voters (so that's I think 3 scoreboards). The scoreboard will then freeze and I will announce the final 7 voters but only the songs awarded 1-7 points with the medalists remaining unpublished. I will then announce who has finished outside the Top 10, with positions 6-10, 5-3 revealed, and then finally 2nd and the WINNER announced. There will be an intermission after 15 voters for approximately 30-45 minutes. Feel free to get refreshments (mulled wine etc.) NB - urgent call out for Bré to have his calculator handy to verify the scorecards as it is incredibly tight at the top (insert your own jokes here x) First let's remind ourselves of the list of contenders ~ SCOREBOARD AFTER 0 of 22 VOTERS: P ENTRY USERNAME PTS 1 Arca “Prada/Rakata” 0 2 Arun Verone “Empty Soul” 0 3 BAYLI “Lucky Number One” 0 4 Catching Cairo “High Speed Chase” 0 5 dazegxd and gum.mp3 “Mania” 0 6 Derrick May “Kaotic Harmony” 0 7 FAUZIA “The Way” 0 8 Francis Mercier & Magic System “Premier Gaou” 0 9 Heavy-K feat. 🔥🎄 Daan's Christmas hot hits • #800 • 21/12/25 🎄🔥
Hey Dan, Excellent to see “Fallen Cloud” hold at #1 for Christmas, I remember when I first heard it on the New Music Friday playlist that I thought it would make a very successful entry for BJSC. Great also to see “Siren Song” charting, that was the single before it and I'm still really enjoying that at the moment. Anyway, I'm pleased that you enjoyed “Ludmilla” so much and that it rates in your Top 10 for a 2nd week! I think Narciss is really talented and underrated; I had actually considered it first for my Club Bizarre entry but decided I'd prefer it as part of my BJSC cannon. Also s/o to Anna von Hausswolff - she makes my chart this week too (with a different track “Struggle With the Beast” which I heard on 6Music last week and absolutely adored). Hope you have a great Christmas! x PS - Congrats on 800 charts(!)

Club Bizarre 33: Queer & Black Dance Culture – VOTING
Tonight at approximately 1900. We have 22/23 voters, unfortunately no votes received from @awardinary :( There was one late voter, but as it's Christmas and you've got Doctor Blind (Festive Mix) in charge today I've decided to waive any deduction that was due. Find out who has won in a few hours time. 🎉

Club Bizarre 33: Queer & Black Dance Culture – VOTING
Aww, I'm very sorry Leww. 😞 I did think it was odd but just assumed that you were busy this month. No entry came through on the spreadsheet. :( I've managed to just about work out how to do a YouTube playlist so that's now in. I'll probably aim to run a listenthrough on the evening of 16 December if that suits everyone? Probably from 1900 as I need to be up early for work the next morning. I may need help in setting that up too x

A huge thank you to the 17 participants who have joined us by confirming their entry! We have unfortunately had a veto from the mods, the participant has been informed and when they've acknowledged the DM I'll post up what track has been vetoed. It's a total banger tho so I'm sad to see it leave. 😢 You still have around 30 hours to confirm officially, although we will accept any late entries on Saturday. I'll update the opening post with a full list of participants when the confirmations close. I'm working a full week this week and running on empty so apologies if I miss or am late to reply to any DMs.

Club Bizarre 33: The Sound of Freedom- Queer & Black Dance Culture
Absolutely, I think that would be fine, so long as they are the lead artist and it still fits within the broad themes otherwise- I'll defer to the mods to make the final decision but I would be ok with it (I wanted to keep this contest as open and inclusive as possible). :) You'd ofc be very welcome Mattias, don't stress too much about the hard deadline as I'll be at work on both Friday and Saturday, and so with that and the BJSC semi results I expect there won't be any rush to get the voting thread underway, so feel free to take your time and send whenever you feel happy. Great to see you back on the site btw. Remember we had some good chats during the lockdowns x

Club Bizarre 33: The Sound of Freedom- Queer & Black Dance Culture
A warm welcome to the thirty-third edition of Club Bizarre. I wanted to change things up for this edition, in part as an accompaniment to @k👠th ’s excellent honouring of Female & Non-Binary Producers earlier this year but I was also struck by this idea for a theme when I was visiting an exhibition at the V&A in Dundee a few years ago that looked at the history of dance music and club culture.. In the 2020s we have seen Black and queer artists like FKA twigs, Sudan Archives and Amaarae among others reclaim and reshape the narrative and visibility of dance music genres like house and techno, which although widely celebrated and grown by these communities, were later heavily commercialised, with these important origins either erased or ignored. So, to change this and round out 2025, we pump up the volume and pay tribute to the queer and Black artists who shaped club culture and electronic music as we know it. From the pioneers of Chicago house and Detroit techno through the UK’s 1990s melting pot of experimentalism that led to drum and bass and UK garage, to today’s boundary-pushing creatives, influencing the beats, the clubs, the culture, and the freedom that the dancefloor represents. This is your opportunity to share some of your favourite bangers, hidden gems and iconic artists, that honour this legacy. The scope is as wide as possible - no dance/electronica genres are excluded, from any time, as long as the track was created by a Black or queer artist then it can be shared. Let’s celebrate and discover together the artists, producers, DJs and vocalists whose work reshaped dance culture worldwide as we know it! RULES: The lead artist of your entry must either be by a Black or queer producer/singer. The genre must fall under the dance/electronic umbrella. Try not to be a cheap hoe by sending something well-known or in the Doctor Blind chart. The objective of the contest is to discover new music. Uninspired or well known entries may be vetoed by moderators. This remains a strictly anonymous contest. Please do not reveal your entry. Confirmations will close at 23:59 on Friday, 5 December 2025. What Would Your BJSC Country Be Called If It Wasn't What It's Currently Called?
Porphyroterra was the original name idea I had I think. It took me several years of spectating to build up enough courage to sign up, albeit under a different country name. Cumulonimbia is heavily based upon the latin name for thunderstorm clouds - cumulonimbus - which translates as 'heaped rainstorm'. I thought that it made a fitting name given my interest in weather and the fact that I always have my head in the clouds. In WMO code cumulonimbus is labelled as the ninth cloud type or CB9 / cloud nine. This is where the phrase 'being on cloud 9' stems from as cumulonimbus clouds are the tallest clouds on the planet, in the tropics they can even exceed 15 km in height and cause planes to have to divert (although I have flown through a line of thunderstorms and been on a plane struck by lighting once!) Anyway here is a picture of much less dangerous cumulus clouds I took a few months ago flying back from Spain.
