  1. So I think what Lee Anderson is saying, is that he'd usually follow female MPs into the toilet, right? peak gammon. Also - latest Private Eye has some interesting insights about him. Thoroughly unpleasant person. @1583391974715166721
  2. The deadline for forming an executive is midnight tonight- after which another election will be required and must be called within 12 weeks. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-63403379
  3. How does Raab keep making it back? The guy who said that the police do not investigate crimes that have taken place in the past. Mind melting appointment. Good to see Jacob Rees-Mogg, the minister for overplaying his hand get dumped. Boris or Bust indeed.

  6. Fun fact: At 42y 165d, Rishi Sunak is also the youngest PM since Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool in 1812 (who was 42 years 1 day old), and the first to be born in the 1980s. Robert Jenkinson replaced Spencer Perceval, the only serving UK PM to be assassinated in post.
  7. Worth mentioning that a combination of unseasonably mild weather in Europe (20-25C across France this week) and increasing LPG coming on-stream has led to future gas prices falling considerably.. good news for energy prices/inflation in the long term going in to the winter and 2023. Bad news for Putin, losing the only leverage he has over the west (now nobody is buying his nuclear threat). @1584528059734327296
  8. There's a lot of classic racist tropes and language coming from the purported supporters of Boris Johnson, pretty appalling really but not all that surprising IMO. Perhaps these disaffected supporters will end up filtering back to the far-right fringe political parties now. I'm not a huge fan of Rishi Sunak tbh- he's to the right of Boris Johnson economically and will be more than happy to bring in cuts to public spending, but like Rooney says he's more likely to calm markets and hopefully not making the cost-of-living crisis any worse than it already is ( even tho he is a supporter of Brexit, which some on the right of the Conservative Party seem to forget for some reason ). He'll be a bit more of a challenge to the Labour Party than his predecessor in a forthcoming GE merely because of the very low bar that she set, but he has weaknesses and attack lines that can be deployed. In terms of uniting the party, the Tories will do whatever is in their interest and so I think, for a time at least, they will unite. That may change, and it won't be solid unity throughout the remainder of this Parliamentary term.
  9. I do not expect a General Election- the polls are cataclysmically bad for the Tories at the moment and they have the majority and power to call one. Therefore, I think quite likely lasting 18 months until the spring of 2024 when they will be voted out, but much more narrowly than the polls are suggesting now. Agreed that Keir Starmer will be the next Prime Minister.

I think there was some hope that the debt burden caused from Covid could have been inflated away somewhat to ease pressure on the deficit and interest payments, however borrowing costs are rising after being historically low for well over a decade so that becomes difficult. The problem for the economy is that inflation has made what is already a dire situation far worse. I'd argue that drivers for inflation wasn't just as a result of energy price changes but a whole mix of things which unfortunately have all come at around the same time and have been in play for over a year now. Interest rates are rising to try and control inflation but that's putting even more pressure because of the housing crisis and the fact that most working age people end up spending up to half of their take home on shelter (rent/mortgage).. going too far on that risks causing a huge recession as people's disposable income falls away to zero. I don't think there are any easy or good options, however borrowing to invest in things that would benefit society (better home insulation, mass council home building projects, infrastructure projects, green energy etc.) seems like a really sensible option, these are tangible things that could quite easily grow the economy. How much does the Government spend on Housing Benefit? This is just money given to the landlords for zero productive economic activity- far better to spend that money on building homes and then renting at affordable levels from the state IMO. In terms of raising taxes, there are many options available - removing the Non Dom status would raise a few billion (small fry I guess), raising corporation tax- Corbyn wanted to raise it to 26%, well Sunak is nearly there at 25% Taking the current top 45% rate of tax to £80K/year and adding a new 50% rate above £123K/year would raise another 5 billion or so. I think a land value tax needs to be seriously considered too. There is enough money.
  11. Nadhim Zahawi has just had this article pulled from the Telegraph and has now switched to Rishi Sunak. What an absolute 🐍 (Reminder that in the dying days of Johnson's time as PM he threatened to resign unless he was given Chancellor- and then told Boris Johnson to resign). 🐍🐍🐍🐍 Also I love the fact that Boris is still claiming that he had 100. Oh yeah, sure Jan - you just ditched your wife and kids, left ur holiday early to fly back to campaign all weekend and then say 'oh, well - now is not the right time'. Just f-o into the bin of history you third rate Chamberlain.
  12. @1584187496589512704 Looks like Johnson doesn't have the numbers.. Top trolling if the Tories have got him to cut his holiday short, only to come back and go: 'er, nah'.
  13. Have finally voted, really enjoyed this whole contest and theme/ - perfect fit for this time of yr I actually belatedly found a song which would have been a great fit for this just yesterday- Malibu's “So Far Out Of Love”: https://mmmmalibu.bandcamp.com/album/palaces-of-pity sadly relased after the contest started..
  14. Boris Johnson reporting that Boris Johnson is popular. HUGE if true!! However, I'm struggling to fully believe it.. he's on 57 public declarations right now apparently. Kemi Badenoch breaking cover to declare support for Rishi Sunak (as well as many other outriders for the right of the party) makes me think it'll be a struggle for him to get to 100. Not impossible, but less likely than I thought yesterday.
  15. Some more... @1583422713624133632 @1583458254109057027 *.*
  16. Ooh, exciting - I really enjoyed “Health Is Wealth” and “Take That” is a certified bangah.
  17. Indeed, however I'm hoping now that Johnson DOES get reelected as it makes Scotland able to declare independence much sooner. Just look at the absolute CHAOS it could cause: @1583522228754255872 @1583434848898756608 The UK could be completely bankrupt and the Conservative party utterly destroyed!
  18. Cumulonimbia have brought you a slice.. of sexy sounds from the freaky underground*. *not a Girls Aloud ref
  19. Be interesting to see what happens if there is a 4-way split- the summer contest first round had a leader on just 88 votes (Sunak). You could argue- if nobody commands 100 in the first round, we should just bin it and have a General Election.
  20. @1583161738995736576 https://ra.co/news/77990 4FM7XeaSO0M 'You voted for ' em, look at you!' You DIRTY RAT.
  21. https://www.young-fathers.com/ @1583067898087514112 Finally, after 5 years - we are getting the much anticipated follow-up to Cocoa Sugar. Heavy Heavy is due in February. The new single “I Saw” follows “Geronimo” as yet another absolute stormer ! Hyyyyped. uPyC0JUfZrU
  22. Hoping to have some votes together by the end of the weekend; I've been really enjoying having this soundtrack my few days in the Scottish Borders, a few strong favourites have emerged but I'm gonna give them a few more listens before I make my final decision. One in particular sounds like a chilled version of BT's “Flaming June”* which I realised I had already bought several years ago after discovering via Netflix. *.* *Yeah I think that I meant Chicane's “Offshore”, but I seem to always get those two mixed up ! Balearic bliss and the dawn of commercial Trance in the Top 40.
  23. I've been asked if ppl can tone down the swearing a bit please- I know this is ironic coming from me in the past few days, but still - try to avoid unnecessary swearing if at all possible. and on that topic- @1583171589985562626
  24. Grant Shapps as the Go Home Secretary. Fuck me, we really are scraping the bottom of the barrel now. Bring out yer dead ! wulxnR-3CWY alp566hl6R8
  25. ^Exactly - I agree with all of the above. It's insane to me that there can be any other conclusion as to what Graham said there (unless being disingenuous)- which was to put a very restrained, articulate and succinct point across without seeking to drive further division. The people that moan loudest about being 'cancelled' for their 'wrong' opinion are the ones that never seem to stop going on about it and become fixated and obsessed with the topic because they cannot accept that the general consensus of the population disagrees with them, and they do this to the point where it becomes the ONLY thing that they use their platform for. Yet despite this, they are essentially freely able to spout their horrible, hateful, transphobic garbage. However, the point that Graham Norton made was that there is accountability for what they say, free speech is a right but it has limits, universally acknowledged and accepted like incitement, hate speech, libel etc. The consequences that come as a result: court cases for libel, fewer book sales, fewer public bookings, increased hostility etc. are I'm afraid something that cannot be shouted away - the opinions can and should be heard and debated in a free society, but I am sick of a minority being thrown under the bus because of people's ignorance and prejudice disguised under an ulterior motive. Anyway, Owen Jones gave a pretty good and passionate speech tonight on the topic... @1582826397768118272
