The longest single to chart is "Blue Room" by the Orb, which was 39:57 long and got to #8 in 1992.

It was a piss-take of the (at-the-time chart compilers) Gallup deciding that CD singles longer than 40 minutes should be classed as albums.

The shortest song ever to chart Top 40 is "The Ladies' Bras" which reached #27 in September 2007 and is just 36 seconds long, previous to that it was Liam Lynch's excellent "United States of Whatever" which is just 1:26.

  2. Thanks for whoever entered Jagwar Ma, brilliant song and really 1990s, reminding me of something like a cross between the Stone Roses and Primal Scream which I'm reminiscing about at the moment.

Mainline was good, but nothing compared with Coma Cat - if you'd have gone with that Gooddelta you'd have probably beat that dull Churchill track.

  3. I think I'm the only one who doesn't really understand Ben Howard's success at the BRITs. I bought Every Kingdom ages ago but I found it really dull and dreary, and although Only Love is good it doesn't deserve top 5.

The only thing I don't understand is why it has taken so long for him to get this success, Every Kingdom was out in Autumn 2011. His best single "The Wolves" should have been a much bigger hit.

  4. As great as it was, using 4 Non Blondes as the series closing song??? That's 1994 not 1996! :o

Should have gone with "Tonight, Tonight" by Smashing Pumpkins, "Beautiful Ones" by Suede (think they'd already used this) or even "Champagne Supernova" which they used right before. Tsk.

Since 2008 the songs that have managed 5 weeks+ have been:

    7 weeks

Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith "Not In Love" (2010)

    6 weeks

    The National "Bloodbuzz Ohio" (2010)

    Grimes "Genesis" (2012)

    5 weeks

    Santogold "L.E.S. Artistes" (2008)

    MGMT "Kids" (2008)

    Arctic Monkeys "Crying Lightning" (2009)

    Bon Iver "Holocene" (2011)

    Not many. :P

Since the last update just 1:

    5 weeks

    Jessie Ware "110%" (2012)

  7. I've tried to get into that Zedd track, but it just isn't doing it for me. :( It sounds like a Guetta track, a not very good Guetta track.

That aside, I absolutely love your #1.

It's also great to see Foals moving into the Top 3, Bastille climbing to #4, Frightened Rabbit up to #7 and Disclosure (ft. AlunaGeorge) moving on up.

I hear Emeli is currently recording 'Read All About It' (Pt XVI) so who knows how many versions she plans on recording in total.

Oh I've already heard that , it leaked last week. It's got Professor Stephen Hawking on it, in place of Professor Green. It's no 'Read All About It (Part VIII)' :( (the one with H.P. Baxxter from Scooter shouting 'More haggis ayyyeeeeeeee').

  9. I bet this sounds great in a club [/HelterSkelter@ChC]

Anyway, I actually get why this is blowing up. What's not to love? I can imagine this being covered on X Factor later this year or maybe being the winners song, c'mon Cowell you know you want to - actually think they should have a eclectic music week, as well as TV Theme week on X Factor - that is a MUST.

Otherwise it'll just be bland Emile Sande tracks for week after week until she occupies every position in the Top 40.

  10. Why don't these bands/record companies just release the single as a stand-alone digital single rather than all this added confusion with album pre-orders.

It's not like albums are selling that much anyway thesedays, and people are probably gonna just cherry-pick singles/favourite album tracks. :P

  11. Hey there!

Loving the new Mvula tune, I had to rip it from a Soundcloud stream as I can't wait to buy it but will definitely be buying the album when it comes out. Love the glockenspiel(sp?) and beat that drives through the track and her vocals are still out of this world. She's touring with Jessie Ware at the moment as well!

Great to see "White Noise" enter the Top 10 and the climb back up the chart for "Counting". Only 2 weeks until "Anxieties" is out - potential album of the year right THUR.

Out of the new ones, much love for James Blake - he could perform a very rare outside the Top 30 to inside the Top 10 jump on my chart next week. :o The new CHVRCHES single is great and will definitely debut Top 40 on my chart next week.

Overall - excellent. Still by FAR my favourite chart posted here.
