Electronic Track of the Month: October 2025
Good morning tastemakers (.. and Bré x), welcome to this month's electronica selection for October 2025. Thanks as ever to @k👠th for the tireless hard work in helping to compile this playlist and for covering last month when I've been too busy to dedicate much time to keeping this updated unfortunately. First of all, let's take a look at how you voted last month ~ In the tiebreak, it was Peruvian DJ/producer Sofia Kourtesis's beautiful “Corazón” that took the flowers and joins our illustrious '25 winners list, narrowly defeating Tourist by 5-4. In the new monthly poll New York DJ/producer DJ_Dave also secured her first EToTM win here with the uplifting “Airglow” achieving 5 votes to Mall Grab's 4 and Sam Quealy's 3 in runners-up and bronze position respectively, DJ_Dave uses live coding in her shows to create a unique and compelling experience. Full result below, including the new playlist for those essential autumn anthems~ Remember to please ONLY vote for 3 tracks in the poll, no more and no less. OPINION POLLS 2024-2029
The Green Party are now comfortably averaging over 10% and are pretty much level with the Lib Dems. Reform UK appear to be flatlining at 30% (I happen to still believe that their vote share is overestimated and more concentrated than the other major parties) and the Labour Party are in freefall. I'm guessing that the Centrist MELTS/ McSweeney's takeaway from this will be to cede absolutely no ground to the genuinely popular left wing policies, install Wes Streeting after a disastrous local elections in May 26, and push even more of their dwindling support to the Greens. Depressingly the most likely outcome as it stands is for a REF/CON coalition government (with Reform UK a few short of an overall majority). If there was any justice at all from what has happened under their leadership the Conservatives would be completely destroyed and end up with 0 MPs come 2029.

Sudan Archives - The BPM
Really enjoyed the album and researching a bit about the inspirations for it - I'm a complete sucker for heartbreak on the dancefloor, or for anything that mixes the lyrical themes of romance/break-ups with clubby hip-house and channels the intense feelings and pitfalls that occur through that recovery period and attempting to move on. “DEAD” is firmly in my favourite tracks of '25 playlist and “MY TYPE” is definitely catching up there for me. That stretch from “A BUG’S LIFE” is soo good too!

Green Party the Reform antidote(?) thread
Great to see the surge in support for the Greens under Zack. I just watched his interview with Piers Mor(g)an and found it so refreshing to watch someone being prepared to stand up for their beliefs and principles when faced with tired, overused and entirely unserious questions. I'm in contrast brought to mind of ppl like Penny Mordaunt, who is clearly a decent and fair person with fairly progressive views (for a Tory) throwing trans people under a bus in order to improve her leadership bid in 2022. What I'm basically saying is, to quote the late great Tony Benn: he's a signpost man. <3

Fortunately I have an HQ copy of the Cumulonimbia flag for this eventuality, though I did have to access the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to scrape the countryball that Bré made around a decade ago that is in my sig. Curses imgur and my laziness in never downloading a copy of the file.

Green Party the Reform antidote(?) thread
Whilst I don't agree on all of the Green party policies (esp since a load of ex-Tories have joined them because of bleurgh NIMBY policies, e.g. don't build pylons or new houses) I've got to say that over the last few weeks I've been really impressed by Zack Polanski. He speaks in a really engaging way and clearly has a lot of really interesting, and I would argue popular with the public, ideas about how to better shape the economic future for this country. Since Starmer and Reeves are determined to be the handmaidens of Farage/Reform UK by implementing really unpopular policies and failing to seriously address the economic inequalities in society I may be persuaded to switch my allegiances.

What do you guys think about protesting generally?
I think protesting can definitely be effective when the cause has clear demands and reflects an authentic and widely held public opinion. As already mentioned in this thread you've got examples from the UK like the Poll tax riots in March 1990 or from the USA like the Montgomery Bus Boycott. A protest doesn't always necessarily need to become succesful in the short term, however it can shift the Overton window and build a different consensus that leads to meaningful change later on. There are other forms, such as going on strike, which can be about simply about registering your dissatisfaction, and these can be quite helpful for building support and even quite cathartic for those that take part even just seeing other ppl who feel the same as you and feeling supported and realising that you are not alone. I've been on two strikes, one about the gender pay gap and another about cost of living crisis in 2023 and on both occasions it was really healing for me and everyone who took part. I think the way that a protest is carried out is also important. For example, I must admit I was quite annoyed by the Extinction Rebellion tube train protest in October 2019; I supported the cause of raising the issue of the climate emergency, however the optics of wealthy or middle class protesters jumping on tube trains and disrupting the journeys of many working class people trying to get home after a long night shift was not good. It was if anything counter-productive IMO. Now, disrupting a private airfield that caters to the private jets of the super rich IS an effective protest because it makes a strong point about inequality as well as raising the climate issue in a way that brings the wider public on side. I agree with Michael that a lot of the protests on Palestine and a Brexit were largely ineffecitve despite what appeared to be clear demands, I think in the case of Brexit it was because there was quite a large polarisation in the wider public, extremists on both sides would not compromise and a lot of ppl were fed up with the endless debate and just wanted it to be over. It was also because the Remain grouping couldn't agree on the best way forward, I would have preferred a softer Brexit option (e.g. EFTA) but when these options were put in front of Parliament in 2019 the centrists foiled any attempt at a compromise or different consensus. Wrt Palestine, as Michael says the government of Israel will not take notice of any protest except from within their own country - the best that can be hoped for is what we now have, which is a complete recognition of a Palestinian state and political pressure from the UK government to reach a peace agreement and a two-state solution. As for why there is apathy and a lack of resistance, I think there is an increasing feeling of hopelessness amplified by the permacrisis and (in the UK at least) a stagnation in living standards and the economy for the majority - that no matter what we do things will not change. We did see large protests and riots breakout in the summer of 2024 following the Southport stabbings, including attacks on the Southport Mosque which then grew into a wider movement protesting against asylum seekers. I worry that social media is rapidly polarising society leading to more animosity between us and that the rich and powerful are weaponising that anger and hatred to build more and more wealth and power for themselves. Depressingly, there are quite serious suggestions now that there is a high likelihood of global societal collapse in the 2050s, so maybe what's the point in protesting if collapse is inevitable?

CLUB BIZARRE 32 / WEIRD AND WIRED / RESULTS
Thank you so much everyone- for the votes to Caterina but especially also for the kind comments. It's been a long and busy day at work so this has been a tonic. Great to see Summer Of Haze in the silver position, in a way I'm glad that there was a large margin because I would have felt immense guilt had it narrowly missed when it was very close between my 12 and 10 pointer. All in all though I really enjoyed my listens through this playlist so thanks all for participating, it was tough to cut it down to a Top 10. Ref the winning song, I love Caterina Barbieri's music, she's another very talented electronic composer who I wish was more widely known/appreciated, but her music is very healing for me and I love losing myself in Ecstastic Computation (of which “Fantas” is its centrepiece). Glad to have shared something that was enjoyed by this community. Oh my , sorry you got done dirty there- I enjoyed your track a lot. Although loving the bitchy/shady chat, where can I join? x I have a few potential themes in mind, but am open to bribes ofc Thanks especially to Leww for hosting and coming up with such a compelling theme and I'm sorry that I had to tap out and miss the live reveal to get an early night.

178 ◾ SEMI FINALS
Wonderful presentation blacksquare x Very pleased to have been drawn in the dark mode semi-final, especially with two Cumulonimbia alumni Zanias and Moonchild Sanelly (both from 2022). I also already know and love that Eden Samara track, which was coincidentally a huge hit for me back in 2022. Great pick! Also sending hype to the other semi for 3l3d3p which has an unconventional song structure and made my playlist back in February.. IIRC the video is equally great!

James K - Friend
Oh, I was actually staying in nearby El Campello but it was very cheap to get into Alicante and we did it most days - the tram system is so frequent/useful and works out at approx. €1 return. I think you'd love it Thom, it's got some really peaceful spots (the amazing beach at San Juan was my favourite place to unwind) but like Dobbo says the castle (Castell de Santa Bàrbera) and its views are really incredible, plus there are plenty of historical quirks to discover and the food is just amazing, the waiter we had at this Tapas bar on the night watching the partial eclipse on the beach front was so attentive and really made it a special night. Just don't do what we did and attempt to climb to the castle, find out the tourist path is closed because of refurbishment and end up on the very not shaded road to the top in 33C heat. Despite the 'go home tourists' graffiti I did find everyone to be incredibly friendly and helpful. If you want any specific recommendations of places to eat or anything just DM me. To keep this on topic I'd add that in my experience this album makes a very nice pairing with a visit to Alicante xx

It interpolates Bôa's “Duvet” <3 The album arrived literally the day before I left for Alicante so I didn't get to properly immerse myself in it before leaving and I'll now forever associate it with my wonderful chilled holiday on the beach.

I'm really sorry Leww, I did intend to send something last night but I was just so washed out with all the travelling and a slight headache that I just had to tap out. I think it being 20 degrees cooler here than where I was last week has really hit me hard. I also had to be up at 5 this morning for work.. I will more than happily listen and vote though to not hold up the contest, as this theme really sounds compelling and something that I'd very much enjoy.

Blood Orange - Essex Honey
I really enjoyed this, so much more than I expected to going in. It creates such a melancholic atmosphere and perfectly conveys that feeling of loss - whether that be a special person, place or time. I love the string arrangements throughout, but I think my favourites from the first few plays away from the lead single(s) are “Somewhere in Between”, “The Last of England” and “Thinking Loud”. However, I didn't find any low points and it'd be difficult to pick only a few cuts for picks to take away/rec. as it works so much better as a whole.

Electronic Track of the Month: August 2025
Welcome to the first poll of the autumn - thanks again to @k👠th for doing a great job holding the fort last month as well as for her hard work helping to curate this playlist. Thanks also to those who voted and commented. Despite a healthy number of votes, the winners are inseparable and it is a tie at the top of the July poll with both Danny L Harle & PinkPantheress and FKA twigs picking up 7 people's support. Only missing out on a 3-way tie at the top by 1 vote is Tame Impala's recent electronic pivot, the appropriately titled “End Of Summer”. But whilst meteorological summer in the nothern hemisphere may now be officially over, we've still got plenty of heaters to see you through the cooler months with the best electronica of August in this month's poll. This includes stalwarts such as Avalon Emerson, DJ HEARTSTRING, KETTAMA, Overmono and Sofia Kourtesis as well as long overdue returns for Burial and Daniel Bortz. We've also some new names in the mix and a fairly diverse set of tracks for your enjoyment. Please vote in the tiebreak too, and happy listening!
