    Given the absolute shitshow that the government are currently embroiled in I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it Simon, and am definitely here for it. Would make Boris' Christmas very awkward!

     

    Local Conservative sources have spoken of concern at the impact national issues are having on the race. One said they now expected a close race, which could go either by as few as 500 votes.

    I wish the most known Christmas song was “I Was Born On Christmas Day” by Saint Etienne, but I'm content to hear it catch me off guard at some point whilst Christmas shopping and think 'never thought I'd hear that outside my iTunes (or BBC 6Music) ever again'. :lol:

    “Macarena” has had surprisingly little endurance beyond the 1990s. The most enduring hits of the 1990s (in order) are the aforementioned “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, “Iris”, “Wonderwall” and “Under The Bridge”. “Under The Bridge” is interesting because it was never a Top 10 hit in the UK. “Iris” originally flopped in the UK (#50) and then was a modest hit the following year on re-release but kept threatening to resurge through the 2000s before finally doing so spectacularly in 2011, not even a higher charting ropey Ronan Keating cover could knock it down apparently.

     

    There's an argument for “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers which definitely has had enduring popularity..

     

    “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers has been on Top Songs United Kingdom the longest, at 258 weeks straight.

     

    But if you wanted something universal across the world then it's probably “Happy Birthday”, which is the most licensed song of all-time, just ahead of “White Christmas”.

    Thanks also to Leww for sending “Make Me”, an absolute banger that I'd overlooked. <3 Deserved to do far better than it did, I assume 'cos this is more of an indie comp or the fact that ppl though it sampled Strike's “U Sure Do” when it actually sampled Donna Allen's “Serious” (which Strike sampled in the 90s tbf) and made it into an entirely different breakbeat track.

     

    I still want to know what Doc thought of the park :P

     

    Hah, yeh it was great, lovely and peaceful - I was in the Arrochar Alps and bagged a few mountains before the weather closed in. It was quite some time ago now, but pleased these results came in and I didn't do too badly, thanks all those who voted for CFCF. Seriously though Cody, thank you for pulling this together; from running BJSC recently I can appreciate how much work and effort is required and struggle with not wanting to let people down so I hope we didn't stress you out too much asking for the results.

    These graphics are unbelievably good Addy! Thank you for your efforts hosting a fantastic contest. Congrats to Lookylion on a debut win, and what an impressive and appropriate win for Confidence Man and “Holiday” given the theme, and now thanks to Rich I've now got the theme to “Wish You Were Here” (“The Carnival” by Gordon Giltrap) stuck in my head..

     

    Great also to see N DNTN at #2, so close to taking the lead in total wins from the other half of 152wild, but I'm certain it'll happen soon enough. A shame Aelandor weren't a little higher in the end.

    There was a documentary on Radio 4 about Unfinished Sympathy last Saturday which you can listen to on BBC Sounds, the link is below. It doesn't feature the band members. Instead, random people explain how the song played a part in their lives. I think the most interesting part is a producer deconstructing the track and explaining where the samples come from.

    The first one was Mark Summers “Summers Magic” in Feb 1991 - that was a remix of the Magic Roundabout theme! It only got to 27 though, so the Prodigy got the first Top 10 hit with this style.
