The synth that drives through this reminds me of Boards of Canada or Aphex Twin's “Rhubarb”, gives a real melancholic vibe to the whole thing. <3 So many great touchstones of early 90s shoegaze and artists like Cocteau Twins in all of her work. Really looking forward to this album!

“Out Of The Blue” entered the UK singles chart the same week as “Windowlicker”, just 2 places apart (14 and 16). It was also the week that I went to Our Price to buy the New Radicals single “You Get What You Give”, I only had enough money for 1 CD single, and I've still got it.. that kick started my love of the charts and I started my own personal chart later that year. Sadly most of the charts 1999-2006 are lost to time as my Dad threw away all the paper copies I had when they moved house. 😥 Just over a month later Veracocha (another Corsten alias) came out with another of my 1999 favourites “Carte Blanche” which peaked at #22 - joining the absolute classic #22s of the 90s like “Papua New Guinea” and “LoveShy”. As for my favourite single, it's probably Joy Division's “Love Will Tear Us Apart” - it was introduced to me by my Dad singing "Giggs, Giggs - will tear you apart" in the early 90s. I've been lucky enough to see it performed live by New Order at Latitude festival in 2016 and it was an absolutely amazing moment. I also have the 40th anniversary 12” vinyl of the single released in 2020 framed. That makes it.. 45 years!

James K has announced her new album Friend which is due out 5th September on AD 93. Last year she spoilt us with the spellbinding “Blinkmoth (July Mix)” and “Hypersoft Lovejinx Junkdream” - this following up 2023s wonderful collab with hoodie “Scorpio”. The two singles from 2024 are on the new album, along with this brand new single “Play”. So pleased that she's finally got the album announced as I've pretty much been obsessed with everything she has released over the last few years. <3

There's another new single out today called “Where to Look” and she has confirmed that both tracks are from a new EP called Dancing Shoes out next month (2 July)! I think she's supporting Lorde in the autumn if anyone is going to those tour dates in Europe. Video appears to glitch out a bit in the middle for me. Gorgeous hook-y chorus on this!

I have that Sonny J track on CD Single. It was the era when I bought all my personal chart #1s on single, and I was convinced that it was going to be a hit with strong Radio 1 backing. A bit like Peter Bjorn And John the previous year (which did at least sneak into the Top 40 at #35). I can't remember if it was the 2007 original or the 2008 re-release but I have a feeling it was the original (when it made #80 in October 2007). I loved them so much that I also bought the follow-ups “Enfant Terrible” (which only made #20 for me) and “Hands Free (If You Hold My Hand)” (which stalled at #2 behind Elbow's “One Day Like This” in June 2008), strangely both of those are available to stream! Here's the sample btw: A couple that I wish were on streaming/for sale: Lisa Lougheed “Run With Us” Not a hit at all, however I’m not sure if it ever got a release in the UK. I've got an mp3 rip from a 7” vinyl that someone kindly uploaded, but it'd be nice to have it available more widely to the public.. a childhood favourite for me! Zoë “Lightning” The only single in chart history to peak with 3 weeks at #37, that's iconic enough for it to deserve to be on streaming services. Also I need it to complete my meteorologically themed playlist. ⚡ Sunscreem “Love U More” They've put the album version up, but I prefer the single mix with its drums & twinkly intro. Why no single mix when they've put the single mixes for “Perfect Motion” and “Please Save Me”? The latter barely made the Top 40. I had to get the original CD single from discogs so I could have the original mix.

Not sure, she said it was 'the first single' but then on the actual single package it comes backed with “Like I Say (I runaway)” and “Method Actor” so who knows. I hope that it's part of a new project, anyway it is stunning as per. I really love the drums in this.

Just taken a first listenthrough - absolutely gorgeous stuff. I think “Let Me” is gonna be one of my faves to come back to, it's very Aphex Twin. I still love the singles “A Tune For Us” and “Waxcap” though, particularly the former for the journey that you are taken on throughout its runtime.

The attitude of Starmer/Labour is very disappointing but not that surprising - they approach and frame everything through focus groups, which generally lean towards the more reactionary parts of the population spectrum (in turn amplified by the media). I've shared the Tony Benn quote about signposts and weathercocks before, but I still think that true leadership is making a principled point and standing by it and attempting to change public opinion, even if that may lose you support in the short term. There's a great article from Helen Belcher (a Lib dem councillor in Wiltshire) discussing the impact of this ruling, and I'd urge anyone on here who agrees with the ruling to read it.
