  1. Oh yeah I forgot about Angel City’s version. I liked that at the time, I’ll have to dig it out along with the original, I wasn’t aware the Cathy Dennis version was a cover.
  2. Sounds like it’s a remake of Cathy Dennis ‘Touch Me (All Night Long)’

Sad news just came in: Radio 1's first female presenter and DJ Annie Nightingale has passed away aged 83.

As I predicted in last weeks thread about the Hot Recurrents list being used for older tracks making a comeback to the charts (like MOTD). New Ariana's ok on first listen, but nothing else new of interest this week. Lil Nas X is rubbish and D Block Europe is even worse.
  5. First single 'Can't Get Enough' is out at 5pm this evening.

It's a couple of songs that will have a higher rotation than the standard recurrents, be interesting to see how many extra plays these get compared to their normal recurrents. This type of playlist might be one they could develop to add in older tracks that have come back into the limelight - example Sophie Ellis Bextor, but we'll have to wait and see on that one and if they develop this playlist further.
  7. Personally I think it’s time GH albums moved over to the compilation charts because that’s what they are a compilation of songs. That would leave the album charts for proper albums.
  8. Singles called 'Just Another Rainbow'.

Next week will probably be full of Christmas tunes and if the last few years is anything to go by then they usually play mixes of past years between Boxing Day and New Year with a Radio 1 Chill day on NYD, so even though the playlist is frozen for 3 weeks, it's not like we're going to get to Jan 2nd and dying for a playlist refresh. They usually do a big one first week in January anyway.
  10. Really hope we get the first single in January. I wonder if the release strategy will be simular to 'Ghost Stories' - drip a couple of singles between Jan and April and release the album late spring/early summer.

Radio 1 will return to Dundee for the first-ever Big Weekend exhibition next month. Radio 1’s Big Weekend Experience, which will be hosted at V&A Dundee from Friday 1 December to 7 January 2024, will take a deep-dive into Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2023 in Dundee showcasing highlights from across the weekend. It will have contributions from Dundee based community groups and partners, the performers themselves, and Radio 1 listeners who have been asked to donate their festival memorabilia, photos and items. Radio 1 is also working with V&A Dundee’s Learning Team to create a virtual version of the exhibition which will be available online as well as an accompanying exhibition Audio Guide hosted by Greg James and Arielle Free which will be available on BBC Sounds from 1 December. In the lead up to the launch of Radio 1’s Big Weekend Experience the station will be in Dundee with Arielle Free broadcasting live on Monday 27 November. Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says: “Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2023 was a huge success generating a tremendous economic boost for Dundee, so it’s incredibly special that we are returning there for this exciting legacy project. “This has been a mammoth task and I’d like to thank our wonderful partners V&A Dundee for helping us create something truly iconic. To my ears Capital's music policy has changed alot over the past year and features alot more oldskool tracks from the 2000's and 2010's, so the line up for the JJB probably reflects that.
  13. Michael Jackson and David Bowie would be the most obvious ones.

Seems Heart have added the new Take That single ‘This Life’ to their playlist. It’s had a couple do spins over the past few days.

 What is this? 1968? To be fair they do pull some surprises out of the bag.

I don't think they playlisted 'Red' at first, they added it after it took off.
  17. Looking firward to this and to seeing them live in March next year!

  19. The first Now CD I bought in 2000 was Now 45 and it cost £15.99 from WHSmith, 23 years later and they're around £12 so are probably very well priced given how much everything has gone up in cost over the past few years.
  20. It comes back to points I've made previously - the current big hits are too expensive to license for them nowadays and given the fact they are now only selling less and less copies with each release, they can't justify the expense.

Think I'd prefer Heart over that terrible Greatest Hits thing that thinks music stopped being produced after 1999.
  22. I know it'll never happen, but it would be great to have a volume featuring songs that missed out of the main series over the years. Those surprising big hits they couldn't get rights to at the time or skipped over to feature the next single. Just a thought.
  23. Radio stations used to play that version when it first come out, but in recent years most have edited it out. If you count that, then you might as well add in Maredith Brookes on Now 38 with her track called ‘Bitch’.
  24. Sounds good to me, will see if this track can help turn this era around for her.
