  1. Hi I'm back to vote in these again until I forget again but I'll try not to do that x

    1 Tiësto

    2 Benny Benassi

    3 Low Steppa

    4 Kevin McKay

    5 Lost Frequencies

    6 goddard.

    7 SICK INDIVIDUALS

    8 Alan Walker

I don't think I'll come back to any of these but the Tiësto song was cool, some parts of it kept sounding like they were going to break into 'Save Your Tears'. The next 4 songs were all ok to decent, I actually thought the chorus on the goddard. one was not bad but it's dragged down by Cat Burns being Cat Burns all over the rest of the song (it's better than 'go' though), don't care for the last two (Alan Walker being mid shocker).

Not me being alone in my vote first time back xx

  2. 21 Savage has an album out this week too, I'm hopeful he might have a chance at blocking D-Block Europe? His last release did get to #1 after all :magic: (although it was a Drake collab so cheating a bit). Ignoring 'Her Loss' his last project as lead artist did 6.8k first week debuting at #10, compared to DBE's last doing 7.5k to debut at #6, and I think 21 definitely has more potential to improve on that than DBE do, I'm not seeing how they're going to improve at all based on their singles success which is even more lacklustre than last time. If DBE do similar or lower numbers than last time then there's got to be at least a fair chance that won't be enough for #1 anyway even if they are the top new entry.

edit: also The Vaccines' last album did comfortably more in its first week than both of the above (11.3k debuting at #5) so I think they may actually be the favourites depending on physical formats, I've not looked into their release

Then again, this DBE release is apparently an 'album' rather than a 'mixtape' and for all the lack of real distinction there is between those things, their 2 previous 'albums' were indeed their 2 highest peaking projects so who knows, maybe they will magically sell more this time.

  3. Jay posted what are apparently the lyrics to the hook of this on Discord the other day and unless he was just winding me up I can already tell this song is going to make me want to leave this planet (as if that wasn't already the case just from the concept and the artist behind it)
  4. No entry received yet from these who entered last contest:

    Aelandor

    Beaverdonia

    Greenfroze

    Kathaldazia

    Neliönoir

    Numayania

    Republic of Adonia

    République d'Áskorza

    Tartford

    Ultraviolenceland

Well we're at 57 entries as of midnight but I'm sure that should grow to at least 58 unless Phil really approves the final list without submitting a song himself and casually ends his streak of 100% participation. x

(assuming Jordan is ok with it any more entries before tomorrow evening should be fine, I do have a few more veto research writeups to do but I don't think there's likely to be any more vetoes out of what's submitted so far (apart from maaaaybe one but I already procured a backup for that one in case))

  5. Seems a bit lower than I'd have thought for Troye given his current relevance! Think he may have made it into the lower end of my votes maybe, his peak era for me is definitely the 'IN A DREAM' EP  but have generally enjoyed most of his work that I've heard. Olly Murs has his share of solid singles (I never would have guessed when he was on X Factor that he'd have such a lengthy and successful career though!), and Bieber has had his moments too beyond a rough start although he doesn't have much that I'd say I really love.
  6. Jadakissnia entries dropping out thick and fast now! Good that Odd Nosdam is among the top 2 of them here though. FLESH and Kap Bambino are another two of the songs that are close for my 5th-8th faves of the bunch, the former got 8 points from me and the latter 7, but I think I do actually like the latter more now! 'Veiled' is another very good witch house track but perhaps a little overshadowed by Radost Moja whose song feels a bit more distinct, while 'Forever' has only grown on me over time, as I commented at the time it's good to have a Crystal Castles style song that doesn't have the baggage of being attached to Ethan Kath. As I'm sure you could guess from it being a very rare one of your entries I didn't vote for 'Niemand' is my least favourite but it's still decent, hopefully 2024 will kick off with you returning to my votes anyway :magic: Sam Quealy is another great BJSC entry in this section ofc, the bullet point style vocal delivery over banging production reminding me a lot of my own Minuit Machine entry. Also love the music video for this one (and for 'Forever', both among the most memorable visuals of the year in the contest).

BJSC aside I had actually already heard all the other songs in this section too but still gave a relisten the other day to refresh my memory - not going to turn down an excuse to relisten to 'Escapism.' being one of the best big mainstream hits of the decade so far and 'Be On Your Way' which still gives me goosebumps every time (and indeed feeling like an even more special song now with the memories of the Easter meetup attached) Shocked to see them both outside the top 40 here when they were both #1s for you, although I suppose the former had some of its run stuck in 2022 iirc? I can see why the Mr. Sosa song was a slow burner for you as it was sounding better than I remembered on this relisten as well, another fab melancholy banger. James Blake of course serving fire as ever, there was another song from the album with similar vibes that I liked even more ('I Want You To Know') but 'Fall Back' is definitely up with my faves on the album too (and a real shame the album ended up being quite overlooked, both commercially of course but also quite disappointing I haven't seen it mentioned much in the year end album writeups / videos :'(). I wasn't initially sure this Mitski era would be for me since I only got into her previous album which was quite a new sound for her and this was more a return to her older sound / more country influence but ended up enjoying this album just as much if not more than the last one and 'I'm Your Man' is one of the best from it, all the references to dogs in the lyrics leading up to the barking dogs sample at the end is a nice touch. And was cool to see you taking so much to that Zanias song, I ended up liking the followup 'Metrics' a bit more but this one is still a fab dark synthpop song.

  7. See I feel like there is quite a bit of hype for the Ariana comeback but it's really hard to gauge if that's just among online people or if the general public will be eagerly anticipating new music from her. My only prediction is that someone will unironically call it a flop no matter how well it does :kink:

Yay for 'Something In The Orange' cracking the top 50 *.*

  8. Up to 52 confirmed nations so far (although still waiting on a reconfirmation from Skall + one of the two vetoes) :jump:

But a :hi: and welcome back to a few returnees - Buzzjack Mountain, Ojnoj, Pagasa, Sombrero and Varakë x (cool to see Sombrero not being a one contest wonder after all B-))

  9. I really doubt the Britney book stuff will have much of an impact on how this does honestly, maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that's kind of a niche online scandal and frankly mostly gaining traction amongst people who already didn't like him. Not that I'm saying he will make a huge comeback, I just think that if it does flop I wouldn't attribute that to the Britney thing any more than him tanking his own musical reputation with his poorly received last album / just the inevitable reality of him being an ageing popstar and struggling to get sufficient playlist support.

I'm definitely less excited about this than I normally would be about a JT comeback as the only single I really enjoyed last time was 'Say Something'. I guess if he leans into the country/folk style again this era he could do ok since that's quite the trendy sound right now.

  10. Round 1: 12 (missed

Fun Boy Three (-3), Gladys Knight & The Pips (-3), 'You've Got Your Troubles' (-6), either Blancmange song (-3), Buzzcocks (-3), 'No Doubt About It' (-6), 'How Can I Love You More' (-3)

    3 in 10: 1/3 (

    'Walk On By'

) - I thought there'd be some obvious ones I missed but after looking it up I don't really recognise any others

apart from 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' which I forgot she had a version of

    so eh x

    Today I learnt

'The One And Only' was written by Nik Kershaw

! Hooray for a rare day of getting both years right as well :cheer:

(and Polyhex is back now, phew)
