  1. I'm continuing to keep my #1 albums Spotify playlist updated with the same criteria (so 'Rescued' added for last week) but no worries if you want to switch it up a bit. Of course it's pretty much always going to be lead singles appearing on my playlist as I update it on the go since there generally won't be enough time for other songs to overtake. And I guess it'll be 'Heaven' for Niall either way.

Here's the link to the playlist if anyone wants to save it btw! (I did post it in the thread for the sessions at one point but it's a bit buried). There ended up being 11 #1 albums which don't have any tracks available on Spotify, and I also made the executive decision to not include Lostprophets (although I did include the Minstrels songs for now, I may or may not remove them at some point, I've been shuffling this playlist a couple of times recently and as of yet none of those have come on x)

No strong feelings re: which FF song to play

'The Girl From Ipanema' to get an RIP slot for Astrud Gilberto this week?

  2. Tomorrow works well for me for a listenthrough :jump:

Siouxsie And The Banshees was actually the first band that came to mind for me for this theme so not surprised to see them showing up here (looking forward to hearing that song), several other pretty obvious names here as well, although I think the only song I've actually heard already is the Shakespears Sister one from the album listenthrough we did earlier in the year. (Speaking of, is there any plan for those to return at some point?)

  3. BJSC 138: b.i.g.s.h.r.i.m.p (feat. Haley) - In Private - a very close DNQ this one but glad I sent it as it still hits the spot

This song has actually come on shuffle for me a few times recently btw and I still love it (and don't think it sounds like a DNQ at all) so glad to see you still hold it in high regard too!

Definitely agreeing with Dan on 'Aber' being much better than the other Tobtok entries too + The Aston Shuffle still stands out as one of the most surprising DNQs of all tarm

Certainly would have been top of a rank of songs I felt were paid the most dust but that Sheppard song is way higher in my all-time top 40. A Grade Playa was never going to do much though, whereas Spin My World felt like it ought to have done! Spin My World was finally recently added to streaming and download platforms, but not the radio edit alas. Still, it's nice to have it on there.

Looking forward to seeing your list! And also the short lists from countries who have hardly any DNQs  Also interesting to see people's DNQ ratio - as I have had 24 DNQs in 155 contests, I have failed to make it into 1 in every 6.5 finals

Fair then :magic: likewise the #1 on my list (spoiler / putting it in the thread here in case I don't get around to doing a full ranking: Yung Lean 'Kyoto') is one I sent with no expectation of doing particularly well, in fact I only sent it at all as a 'to hell with it' moment after being vetoed for the first and only time.

A bit off topic but this post has actually inspired me to do one of my periodic checks to see if any of my old entries missing / removed from Spotify have been added / re-added and indeed one has - Savage Skulls/Douster/Robyn 'Bad Gal' is finally available after years(?) of only a remix being on there *.* It has 252k streams so I presume it was available at some point in the past. Still 6 songs unavailable, at least 3 of those were on Spotify before but were removed a while ago, not really holding my breath for any of them to return (Ash Koosha might do at some point as his other music is still up, just that album gone, Skee Mask almost definitely won't as he's pretty explicitly anti-Spotify on social media these days, and Kids Of The Apocalypse disappointingly seem to have turned into a dodgy NFT project and pretended their old songs didn't exist). The other 3 are Deaf Club (band broke up a long time ago so probably never happening, sad as that's one of my favourite underrated entries), Jaymes Young (original song is on Spotify ofc but the remix was never meant to be an official commercial release afaia) and Dawn Richard (was always just a vinyl bonus track aside from having a music video on YouTube, idk if there would ever be the demand for her to make it more widely available, the album is 10 years old in a couple of years so I can pray for some kind of anniversary edition ) Oop at this list including 3 of my biggest hits!

I have 26 DNQs out of 134 entries so 19.4% (it was 23.6% before the start of my current Q streak *_*)

  4. I fully expected to see DJ Kent at #1 in your list Rich! (also 'Imali' is too low x)

Poor brave RHYME SO being written off as a novelty act and ranked below the handwashing song by uhsting as well ddd. I thought that was a really good debut entry! (and actually I voted for 'Bebe' too)

Interesting to read people's thoughts here, I've kept putting off making an updated ranking of my own entries due to the list being so long but a ranking of just the DNQs may be a little easier (especially as I'm privileged enough to be on a long Q streak so can be free of recency bias lol), think I may have a crack at it some time today x

I can say for sure though that my one DNQ that baffled me the most was Kadie Elder's 'Simple Guy', I really thought I may have been onto a second big hit in a row with that (coming right after Truls giving me my first top 3) but then it came 2nd from last in the semi <_< still think that's a brilliant song - not my favourite but would be ranked fairly highly - and they would go on to be redeemed by getting a top 10 hit for Singerpurear at least, albeit with a song I wasn't nearly as into.

  5. Yeah there have only been a small handful of UK rap songs that have made the Hot 100 ever so even making Bubbling Under is definitely a noteworthy achievement!

From the current generation I think the only 2 that have made the Hot 100 were 'Don't Rush' and technically Jnr Choi's 'TO THE MOON' (which was actually a bigger hit in the US than the UK so a weird case). 'Body' and 'Doja' both looked like they might become hits but stalled on Bubbling Under, while the likes of Stormzy and AJ Tracey (and Dave until now) have never even got to Bubbling Under. Tinie Tempah did have a couple of Hot 100 hits too if you go back a bit further.

edit: KSI and Lil Wayne's 'Lose' made the Hot 100 too, although that's barely a rap song and ofc is a collab with an American rapper (there have been a few more UK rappers that charted as features like Giggs with Drake and Skepta with A$AP Rocky)

Wondering if 'Who Told You' could make the Hot 100 next week, it debuted in the top 40 on US Spotify although it has fallen quickly and is actually now already back behind 'Sprinter' (which has so far peaked at #117, almost dropped out of the top 200 yesterday but has rebounded back to #166 today).

  6. 'Sprinter' may be done with 1m+ days now but still a nice bounce back to over 900k again today, also good to see 'UK Rap' rebounding to #3, hoping it still has a chance of going top 10 this week.

Yay for Hannah Laing cracking the top 10 today too and Jorja back to her peak as well! And rooting for a reset for 'Cruel Summer' pls (although it could re-enter the chart while still on ACR soon as 'Hits Different' continues to drop off)

Urgh, AIW will avoid ACR again. I just hope it misses the top 10,

He's still touring in the UK isn't he?

  7. Yes, has been that way for some time now (Kworb kept getting updated pop bar numbers up until around August last year but has been permanently frozen since, presumably Apple themselves have either stopped producing the numbers or made them completely inaccessible).

It's kind of a blessing that we do get numbers from Spotify.

  8. Bré informed me that plenty of the cat ones are still up and running at least, they're forever the backbone of the internet

/r/OneOrangeBraincell has become my favourite place on the Internet the last couple of months and I would have been devastated if it went down xx

Losing access to many of the subreddits that I idly browse all the time has definitely felt weird, I hope Reddit does actually do something to mend the situation (looks like one of the big complaints is a loss of accessibility features which are available on 3rd party apps but not the official one, feel like that should be a relatively easy bone to throw to the 'protesters' by committing to integrating those into the official app) as I do fear a lot of subs are going to end up going indefinitely down otherwise.

  9. Quite surprising that Kate Bush hasn't landed higher than she did last time. I can't profess to be that familiar with her music, I mainly only know the few obvious big hits and a handful of others that have been in song contests on here, but she is consistently great from what I have heard and very high up the list of artists I really ought to listen to more from.
  10. Still making good progress on the stretch goal of getting at least 2 of every position - this is how I will cope with the tragedy of coming 11th only one point behind the top 10  18th now the only position in 11-20 that I've only got once.

(and I forgot to do an update last month but Baseck gave me my 7th 22nd place finish - that was already my 2nd most common result, and remains that way, one behind my number of 17th placers)

  11. Gahhh so close to that top 10 but alas remains elusive this year, need to try harder in the second half :drama: I figured out I was tied with Bøtanikkä for 10th/11th after my own votes so was praying for a miracle from Whoddy's late votes but that not happening clearly :kink: (I'd have lost the tiebreak anyway so Whoddy is forgiven, in fact he makes the 11th place more bearable as it means I didn't literally foot shoot myself to being 11th on a tiebreak haha). Nevermind, still continuing to do better with each entry so far this year and got a pleasingly high number of medals and 12 pointers, so that's all still positive(+) :3

Anyways, will comment on the rest of the results in a bit but for now big congrats to Ben for a very well deserved and hard fought win, our latest inductee to the 2 wins club *.* (as Quintessa would have been too tbf lol). I did think as soon as I heard it that this song was giving winner vibes, I know hemlocke's previous entry didn't light the scoreboard on fire but this one is a much better song imo and I did think it sounded more widely appealing too. I feel like 'stranger danger!' from her may also have been a strong winner contender!

I did a quick double check already and my scoreboard matches up perfectly with Kath's so no corrections needed this time B-) thanks for a flawlessly smooth hosting this month Kath, certainly more than making up for any lingering memories of the Nokia hosting kerfuffle of old :cheeseblock:
