  1. I think Thursday evening releases are just to have the spotlight solely on that one song upon its premiere rather than potentially being lost among a ton of other releases dropping at the exact same time. 200k streams going missing is really no big deal (and they'll probably get some extra streams today from already being in the UK top 50 playlist which will cancel out some of that loss anyway).

It's very common for releases by major artists to not come out at Friday midnight, there must be some perceived greater benefit on the label's end.

  2. Yeah I was wondering about "Snow On The Beach" just after I made my post, seems likely. Can't think of a case of this happening to a song that was already freefalling so I'm curious how this develops over the next 7 days :heehee:

Ed's album tracks did get a random one day spike near the end of the week then resumed plummeting so may be a repeat of that? (Let's hope xx)

  3. Not sure if this is for Dave's album or not, the video is on Central Cee's channel and bills him first (though Dave is billed first on streaming platforms confusingly).

The label is listed as Neighbourhood / Live Yours, Neighbourhood is the label Dave's previous albums were on but I think Live Yours is a Central Cee founded sublabel (though he's not released any of his own previous music on it).

  4. Either of those sounds good to me :jump:

2 back to back Persephonia artists here with In The Loop followed by another DANCE WITH THE DEAD track :cheeseblock: (a bit late to point this out and not meaning to cause any trouble but I don't think 'Festival' is a remix unless I am missing something  it is a cover though, didn't know this until looking it up the other day but the original was by Paola & Chiara so it's actually a Persephonia/Jadakissnia crossover :cheeseblock:)

  5. #7 after a 9pm release is crazy even with numbers being as low as they are right now. Could be pushing a million streams for its first full day?

I'm not seeing a lot of positive reaction to it from the fans at least on Reddit which immediately makes me doubt its longevity but may just be one that's playing more to the general public (much like 'LET GO' which was rightfully clowned heavily but still somehow ended up being a big hit).

    It's #2 on Apple now. The Weeknd/Playboi Carti/Madonna in at #79.

The Dua song seems to be steadily moving up Hot Hits UK so autoplay or not I think it could keep climbing in the coming weeks (and ofc the movie itself isn't even out yet so that could help it out a lot possibly).

  6. Honestly thought Dannii had retired from releasing music, I guess right now is as good a time as any to make a comeback. (Looks like it is her first new song (excluding remixes) since 2017?)

Surely that title is missing an S at the end though x

  7. This sample smuggling :neyde: none of the samples popped up with a Google search, not that it would be vetoed anyway but still, the sneak x

(Banger tho x and has reminded me of 'Sofi Needs A Ladder' being a banger too, forgot about that sang)

Also me being psychic with my last post in this thread *.*

  8. Oops I didn't realise this was a third DNQ in a row for you - all 3 good songs as well, especially the last 2 would have got pretty high points from me in the final and not really sure what went wrong with Sub Sub D: #enddanæviiaracism
  9. There's now precedent for people pushing songs from a few albums back as new singles (The Weeknd's 'Die For You' says hello). Genuinely don't think it'd be a bad idea for her to do something with this song now. Cool to see it getting a re-entry on the Hot 100 anyway.
  10. Compare it to "Military Fashion Show" - And One (or even "Glow"- Ashbury Heights) and it might sound a lot more like one of mine, it's industrial synth pop. It just has the vocals and attitude you wouldn't usually expect in that genre but that's also kind of what made it stand out to me.

Her other songs are a lot grungier and almost wish I'd tried one of those now because I was really torn on which one to send but I'm really surprised to DNQ. Maybe it was a bad semi for me idk but really thought I had a gem with cross appeal this time, and I liked it enough to listen on repeat when I discovered it.

To be fair I did only do one listen of this semi-final and it was a pretty last minute and rushed / slightly distracted one at that so any of my analysis of these songs probably should be taken with a pinch of salt! But yes I guess that was just a kneejerk reaction to the vocals, I will give it another listen and see if I pick up more on the other elements of it. Sorry if that comment came across a bit reductive.

I guess you must have been doing at least something right to get solid points from both Terra Avium and République d'Áskorza

  11. Ok but you were saying you don't think anyone takes him seriously. Maybe you don't and that's fair enough but I really don't think that's been the case at large since 'Old Town Road'. 'MONTERO' has a score of 85 on Metacritic and appeared in quite a few publications' best albums of 2021 list, and I don't think he would have been able to have several big and long running hits from that era if the general public were only ironically enjoying them.
  12. Bingo ^_^ I did not think anyone took her seriously, they certainly didn’t when that Munch song was a thing (for all the wrong reasons). I feel like this is the case with a lot of “meme” artists that actually have very little talent (Lil Nas X is another one IMO)

Not trying to be funny but genuinely did you stop paying attention to Lil Nas X after 'Old Town Road'? 'MONTERO' was a well regarded album and its big hits were not even slightly meme songs (I guess you could say he was still playing into some gimmicks with the marketing / music videos but the songs themselves were completely serious).

Ice Spice definitely started blowing up as a meme rather than people taking her seriously as a musician and I'm not convinced that she isn't still seen more as a meme than a serious artist despite all these big collabs. She could very well eventually make that transition like Doja Cat and, yes, Lil Nas X did but idk. She seems a bit too one note to me from her (admittedly pretty limited) output so far. I do quite like 'Princess Diana' though. This 'Karma' remix could have been a good opportunity for her to gain some more credibility but it seems to have fallen pretty flat.

  13. Should be a pretty high selling top 2 this week!

Assuming Noel is more likely to be the #1 here - Foo Fighters' run of studio album peaks since their first #1 has gone 1-2-1-1-2-1-1, so they seem cursed to never get 3 #1 albums in a row if they miss out this week.

  14. #endharmonicaracism remaining in effect as well then oop.

</3 at Sub Sub being out, I honestly thought this could have been a pretty big hit if 'Life In Mono' came top 5 (I actually like this more than that), especially gutting it being out on a tiebreak, ah well... congrats Roba on clutching out the 20 Q streak anyway and yay for Minuit Machine being in the final again.

I'll try my best to get around to doing a Q streak update again for this contest as it's been a few months since the last one oop ~

Anyway, lost from my votes/rankings (just finished my relisten of semi 2 so have a ranking for it now, good timing - possibly the first time ever that my ranking for my own semi is based on only one listen while the opposite semi got 2 listens  I think I'll give my semi another listenthrough before the final too, but won't update the rankings)

Quite disappointing results from semi 2, losing 3 songs there that would have been ranked very highly for me in the final. (Boo Elëdan missing out from the deduction, I was worried that they were close enough there that they might have even been through if they'd just got the 15% deduction but looks like that's not quite the case). But semi 1 was the better semi for me overall anyway so at least that had pretty good results.

Thanks for the hostings Kath :jump:

  15. Yay for both of those <3

Definitely rooting for Harmonica in semi 1 now but both of those semi 2 songs should really be through so I'm gonna be both happy and sad either way - Danæviia's is the slightly better of the two for me but they're both fab and I don't want to see my alumni Minuit Machine out (especially as it'd be the end of the Summericia streak just short of a nice round number) D:

  16. Hmm I would have thought all 4 of those in semi 2 were fairly safe qualifiers...! (I didn't personally love this Aeroche entry but don't think it sounds like a streak ender, the other 3 are all great though so sad that at least one of them will be out D:)

Cumulonimbia is a must from semi 1, hopefully FLJ too (or Harmonica, a decent entry from them and we don't like long DNQ streaks etc.)

I didn't disown it, really. I utterly love it. :w00t:

A change of heart since last night then :cheeseblock: :kink:

  17. The Spodic Empire's streak marches on *.* shame about this entry being a little disowned by Colm himself as I thought it was excellent. (And was a lot more easy listening than I expected - I've heard a couple of Low's more recent songs and they are a lot more noisy than this one! not in a bad way, just an observation)

RIP to Mimi Parker from Low who passed away quite recently tho </3

  18. Scotland 2 qualifying :shakingcheeseblock: another standout moment, I could have seen it going the same way as Car Seat Headrest being a little too niche but glad this one had enough fans to get through.

Thought the Conoria entry had a pretty strong chorus, very Olivia Rodrigo esque. Wasn't quite as sold on the verses though.

Ooh I hadn't noticed that before but I can see the similarity! Chiquetere came out before the Macarena so if anything it'd be the other way round.

Gah I see. He should sue tbh x

Whoooops I think I did a bad research, as I didn’t know Cub Sport had already been entered!

It was just last contest :kink: (TARO Bellamia's entry, it missed out on a tiebreak sadly oops. Was the opposite semi from you tbf)

  19. Disappointing but not surprising to see both of those out - Utopia was my 1 pointer, I feel like it could well have grown on me more but not the most immediately distinct indie entry tbf. Abeltesfayeton was I think my 4th fave from semi 2 but did seem like a bit of a longshot to qualify sadly, glad it at least did a fair bit better than their debut entry I guess!
