This is really lovely - I imagine this is what Phoebe Bridgers sounds like to people who like Phoebe Bridgers.

I never got into this anywhere near as much as 'Romantic Homicide' but he did just drop a music video for this slightly older single and I really love this one, has a post-punky edge to it. Can we have this blow up as well x

I'm referring to the previous BJSC Movies spinoff x (although I struggled with the two in the movie forum as well lol, I think I came last and then like second from last xx)

Why would it matter if a theoretical P!nk hit was or was not 'due to TikTok'? I guess I can vaguely understand why this distinction would matter for a new artist (i.e. 'TikTok hits' maybe being less likely to result in longer term success / a consistent fanbase) but P!nk has had a fanbase for 2 decades.

 

People really still acting like TikTok is some new novelty and not the driving force behind the vast majority of hits.

Movie music is not really my forte and I remember struggling to find an entry for the first one of these but now it's been over 6 years (!) since that I guess it's overdue to have another go x

Last week was pretty lacking in good discoveries but the Massive Attack song was great and I also really enjoyed the Slipknot track although big 'your mileage may vary' on that. David Gray's 'The Other Side' was really nice, somewhat making up for the disappointment of 'This Year's Love' getting a play over the vastly superior 'Babylon'. Doves also pretty good. Lots of good stuff I already knew of course as ever, highlights including 'The Scientist', 'Feel', 'Star Guitar', 'Seven Nation Army', 'All My Life' and 'Can't Stop'. The RIP slots were a pretty good set of discoveries for me too, minus 'The Colour Of My Dreams' which I already knew from Club Bizarre.

I think it's my favourite from her since the 'Funhouse' era (wasn't a fan of 'What About Us' either although I did quite like 'Beautiful Trauma' from that era, that was her last single before this that I'd rate higher than 'decent').

'The Chronic' was removed from Spotify for months and only just re-added so I imagine it must have been stalling juuuust short of platinum for some time.

Ooh that's promising to see P!nk entering a lot earlier this time. Lord knows why this wasn't the lead single, it is a great song, hope it'll end up being a bigger hit than NGNDA.

 

'Song 2' randomly slaying we love to see. Also wow didn't realise Lizzy McAlpine had got so high, great to see her top 40!

I would love to see RAYE at #1 and I guess for what it's worth this is a good start but as with Måneskin the other week I'm really not convinced she'll be that strong of a physical seller, or even that strong of a streamer beyond the one song. My money is on Shania.

My gut would be Shania Twain and P!nk over RAYE and Inhaler. Hope you're right about Paramore and especially Gorillaz though! (And fingers crossed for slowthai to somehow get another #1 album too though I do agree The Lathums are probably most likely for that week based on the current schedule)

The elephants in the room I was referring to were A Flock Of Seagulls and Alphaville, not the big name artists with lesser known songs.

 

(and I'm more saying that those two probably should have been vetoed rather than that Orbital shouldn't have! not making a fuss about it, just noticing a slightly different standard x)

 

Hopefully the artist I just confirmed isn't taken (I wouldn't be surprised if it is) since I waited so long to confirm!!!
