  1. Another silver certification for another great song by The Cure :heart:

    :cheeseblock: at 'Yonkers' too. Tyler would definitely become a more mature and overall better artist years after that when he exited his le edgy phase but that was the first song I heard from him and it's still an undeniable banger.

  2. I mean 'Midnight Sky' was a pretty big hit as well. Mega smashes like 'Flowers' are very much not the norm.

    'Angels Like You' on the other hand... (was a post album single ik but still feel like it deserved to be massive and could have been with better marketing)

  3. Interesting distribution of years here - two in 1967 but then only one more before the turn of the millennium, then a bunch of them recently (albeit 3 of those being versions of the same song).

    Voted for Scott McKenzie (I remember this being a good discovery from the #1 listenthroughs), Sweet Female Attitude and Sandi Thom, not a great track record with the recent ones (Miley's is the best of the post-2010 ones but still just decent for me although might be a grower).

    Don't think I know the Travis song, looked up the lyrics and they aren't ringing any bells :thinking:

  4. I'd love to see them going to #1 but I'm not sure I'd be that confident! We've not yet had a test of how well they will do with a co-ordinated physical release, the previous album was a slow burner and mostly based on streaming. (Also fair to say the hype around them has subsided a bit now). Of course the bar for #1 probably won't be that high so fingers crossed they do still have the fanbase for it. Should definitely at the very least be top 10 anyway you'd think which would still be a big improvement after 'Teatro D'Ira Vol. I' never quite made the top 40.

    After a few very quiet weeks I see several albums out this week that I want to check out - Måneskin, Ladytron, Låpsley (big week for artists with 'å' in their name :lol:) and Biig Piig although that is more like an EP, only 7 songs and 3 were singles (it is officially a mixtape).

  5. I'm not crazy about the song but always good to see anything cracking 1 million streams, especially with it actually gaining through the week rather than just a big debut!

    'Martin's Sofa' is another song that's had a leak / snippet floating around for a while and generating some hype so not surprised it looks set to be Headie's biggest hit for a while. I've seen a similar level of hype for a leak of a new Dave song called 'Adriano' so likewise expect that to be another biggish hit if/whenever it drops.

  6. Voted for Seb Wildblood <3 also love the Fort Romeau, Everything But The Girl and Julien Bracht tracks and Willo was a nice discovery too. Thought the vocal was a little jarring on the Jasper Tygner one. 1-800 Girls was good too but not quite landing with me as much as the rest.
  7. I see it's titled 'People (Check On Me)' on YouTube - hasn't been changed on other platforms but I wonder if it will be now.

    Really enjoying this song, happy to see it blowing up so quickly, hopefully a future top 10.

  8. Great pick as expected Jester! As with ELO my favourite ended up being track 1 but it was very enjoyable throughout.

    Top 5 from first impressions:

    1 La Femme D'Argent - :wub: 10/10 would vibe to

    2 Kelly Watch The Stars - only one of the singles that's made my top 5!

    3 You Make It Easy - surprised this one wasn't a single as I could definitely imagine it being a hit, liked this considerably more than the other Beth Hirsch track

    4 Talisman - the most ~cinematic~ track on the album

    5 New Star In The Sky - shades of Bowie and Pink Floyd as pointed out by others at the SyncTube

    I think my top 3 are fairly clear but was tougher to pick the last two, Sexy Boy and Ce Matin-Là both feel like they should be up there too. (I do feel like I might like Sexy Boy more as an instrumental though :kink:)

  9. Good: Luude, Young Marco

    Decent: SG Lewis, Marshmello

    Mid: The Chainsmokers, Alok

    Bad: Sam Feldt

    Awful: Martin Jensen

    Nothing I am super loving but I'll add the top 2 to my playlist. Voted for Luude, I wasn't sure how I felt about the idea of him sampling 'Porcelain' but he did a pretty fine job with it really. Young Marco is the kind of song I wouldn't normally have bothered listening to unless it was charting but checking it out for this poll and pleasantly surprised - maybe a bit over-reliant on the sample but his production style does sound good (even if it takes way too long into the song for it to kick in).

    SG Lewis has had better songs this era.

    Will vote in Kath's poll tomorrow x

  10. Still can't get over how much I love this - I heard 'Youth' and 'Medicine' from them before and thought they were both good but they definitely didn't hit me anywhere near as hard as this has. The little 'pulses' in the instrumental (not sure if that's the right word x) are just goosebumps every time. :wub: 2 years in a row where a possible song of the year contender has dropped in early January following Let's Eat Grandma's 'Happy New Year' last year.

    (also kind of déjà vu to Wolf Alice's 'The Last Man On Earth', not that the song is particularly similar to that, but just in terms of an early year comeback that I've instantly loved from a band that I previously didn't really connect with that strongly. I can only hope this song is leading into a similarly fantastic album)

    edit: just realised I have their cover of 'Poke' in my Shuffle playlist too so I guess I was a fan of that too but I don't actually remember it that well oops, must revisit - I will have a listen to the other songs Bjork linked as well soon

  11. Although it is a real shame that Alex has recently been hanging out & writings songs with GB News regulars Ariel Pink & Winston from Mumford & Sons. They also bizarrely replaced him as frontman for a few shows in Mexico over the summer with absolutely no explanation. This has since lead to rumours that he refused to get vaccinated for the trip.

    Errr. 'GB News regulars' is one thing but wasn't Ariel Pink literally at that 6th January rally/insurrection? I'd be very wary of anyone still choosing to associate with him.

    (I gave this album a listen when it came out despite not really caring for any of the singles just to see if anything on there could recapture their former glories and thought it was mostly very mediocre - there were a couple of pretty good songs on there, 'Millionaire' was one of them - but after reading the above I think I'm kind of ok with being generally over them. Shame as the singles off their first 2 albums were really great)

    edit: also the Ariel Pink song was literally about the stupid Hunter Biden laptop thing lmao ok

  12. Probably unpopular opinion but I think this may actually be my fave of the 3 so far? (Maybe I was conditioned to be biased towards it because of the inspiration from the UK post-punk scene, can definitely hear that in the verses). I guess I can see why the chorus may turn people off but I think it's gonna be quite an earworm.

    3 for 3 excellent singles anyway!!

  13. Posted

    Psychedelic rock band Temples are back with their 4th album 'Exotico', dropping on 14th April. You might remember them from their 2020 standalone single 'Paraphernalia' which was a top 5 hit in BJSC for Utopia. (They also had a UK top 10 album with their debut in 2014, though their second and third albums charted lower).

    Lead single 'Gamma Rays' is out now and it's also a tune.

  14. Another single called 'Six-Pack' came out last week - I didn't connect that much with the singles from their last album surprisingly considering I love most other bands in this scene but I've enjoyed these two a lot more, this one is my fave to date from them I think!

  15. 'Rap God', 'Get Get Down' and 'Thorn In My Side' possibly all songs that would have made my top 30 (albeit the latter being one I only recently learned the title of lol). Other good ones dropping out today include 'Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)', 'Goodbyes', 'Shut Up And Drive', 'Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)' and 'Gay Bar' (ikonek). I love Biffy Clyro but was never that huge on 'Mountains'.
  16. Falling on my face a bit again today oops - 1/6 bonuses and 1 year early on both of the year questions -_- Very easy 3 in 10 today though.

    Round 1: 12 (missed

    'Shake You Down' (-6), 1986 (-3), 'I Know Him So Well' (-3), Rickie Lee Jones (-6), 'Welcome Home' (-3), 'Ocean Drive' (-3), either Limmie & Family Cookin' song (-3)

    )

    Round 2: 9 (missed

    Little Richard (-6), 1997 (-3), Prefab Sprout (-3), 'Lay Down Sally' (-6), 'Kelly Watch The Stars' (-3), Cozy Powell (-3), Sally Oldfield (-6)

    )

    3 in 10: 3/3 (

    'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)', 'Irreplaceable', 'BREAK MY SOUL'

    )

    Most annoying miss was

    Little Richard

    - I was trying to think of that name as a guess but couldn't quite recall it, could only remember the first word oops! A few more I probably should have got too -

    I should have been able to guess the Steps one just based on the artists of the original but I forgot they had a version of that song oops. Should have known 'Ocean Drive' too although Duke Dumont's song of the same name > x And if only the Air album listenthrough had actually happened already...

    Ah well, hopefully better tomorrow again :kink:
