  1. :cheer: I was kind of expecting Cody's prediction of Sovarasma hosting to end up coming true :kink: but I am glad that you have agreed to host, a D'yermak'er contest is way overdue!

Pretends to understand the theme B-)

And I need to look for a song soon as I have nothing oop xox hiipe though!

  2. We love to see 'Guilty Conscience' appearing in the top 100 again! *.* (I did see its first entry the other week but didn't want to bump an old thread to comment on it x)

Yay at new / re-peaks for 'Escapism.' and 'Oh, Lover' in the top 3 too ~ and good climbs for The Blessed Madonna, Nia Archives and Romy, some good Radio 1 core dance bangers around at the moment.

  3. 'Nobody Gets Me' was one of my least favourite songs on the SZA album (I see the appeal but it's not really my thing) while 'Kill Bill' is in my top 3 of the album with 'Good Days' and 'Shirt' (I know mainstream hoe choices xx) so a hard disagree there

Nice to see FLO rising on Apple although I do wish it was with nearly any other song oops, 'Cardboard Box' is alright but definitely already outclassed by most of their other songs since.

  4. Skrillex/Fred again../Flowdan #9 on their first full day on Spotify! Very likely a new highest charting single coming for Fred.

    Other new peaks today:

    18 Rema/Selena Gomez

33 Lil Uzi Vert - back ahead of Tory Lanez today, hooray x

    36 Cian Ducrot

    72 Joel Corry/Tom Grennan

126 Hotel Ugly (sped up) - overtakes the original which is down to #139

    132 Rema (solo)

    146 Saint Levant

'Rumble' seems to be boosting Fred's previous hits too, decent rises today for 'Delilah (pull me out of this)' and 'Turn On The Lights again..' plus a re-entry for 'Jungle' at #200

'I'll Be Waiting' may actually be a bigger hit than 'All For You' at this rate? Climbing pretty quickly.

  5. I can see that similarity too but that's not what I'm thinking of. I think it's another song by someone with a strong accent (not sure if it's also an Irish accent or something else, which I realise is not helpful :kink:)

It'll probably turn out to be something that only vaguely sounds similar tbh, that's the case half the time when I have these annoying moments of familiarity haha.

I figured it out - turns out it wasn't really someone with a strong accent at all and as expected it's not really that close of a match ('Landslide' is actually a lot closer haha), but it definitely is the song I was thinking of. It was Razorlight's 'America'. Glad to have got that annoyance out of the way :basil:

I think it's more the instrumental that is kind of similar, combined with the 'tone' of the vocals (not sure if that's the right word, I don't know music theory) moreso than the melody as well. So my description was just terrible and probably no one would ever have been able to get that if I didn't figure it out myself. :kink:

  6. It looks like the Skrillex/Fred again../Flowdan song that came out yesterday might be a decent hit for its first full week at least.

Otherwise... we have a Popcaan song featuring Drake apparently lol ~ (although their previous collabs didn't go very far so don't expect this one necessarily will either)

edit: just realised it's past midnight so NMF UK is updated. There's a new Sigala song with MNEK but if that is a hit it'll probably take a few weeks. Also a couple of UK rap songs that may or may not be popular enough to go top 40 first week (Potter Payper, Clavish).

  7. BJFest returning or not really depends on how much we drift from the schedule for the main contests (i.e. if we have a free month to organise one) more than anything else so we'll see how that goes ~ (but in any case it'll be a mod run thing as always if it does happen)

Maybe a new spinoff in February or so?

  8. So QEII has died (spoiler alert) but it absolutely no effect on the charts whatsoever! Would have been nice for The Funeral by Yungblud to have been #1 for the occasion lol.

Now now, being anti-monarchy is one thing, but a bit extreme to wish YUNGBLUD on them.

Thank god the top 2 are pulling ahead of 'Dance Monkey' at least so far.

  9. Better scores again today, phew!

    Round 1: 21 (missed

Desmond Dekker & The Aces (-6), 1990 (-3), The Magnificent Seven (-6), Suzi Quatro (-3)

    )

    Round 2: 21 (missed

    Lulu (-6), 2007 (-3), 'The Jean Genie' (-6), 'Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)' (-3)

    )

    3 in 10: 3/3 (

'Makes Me Wonder', 'Moves Like Jagger', 'One More Night'

    )

Bar a better guess at the year (I was 5 years late) round 1 couldn't have gone better there for my knowledge. Think I could have got 27 in round 2 - was just 1 year late on the year question (

and that should have been an easy one oops, I forgive myself for missing pre-Y2K years but no excuse for this

    ) and then

I remembered the A Flock Of Seagulls song had the word 'photograph' in the title but alas that was all. If the contestant got 1 point for his half answer can I claim like half a point for that? also as a couple of others have said, the only cover of that Bowie song that I know is the Nirvana one but of course knew that was a couple of decades out

    .

    Easy 3 in 10 today.

    Albeit awful

    .

Loved the appearance of a question about

    'Lovely Day'

    Three in 10 - 2 (guy could've at least tried jeez x)

This Love, She Will Be Loved and...Harder to Breathe for some reason which wasn't top 10 :') Think I was too in the zone of their first album to forget that

Any top 75 hit is a valid answer so you did get 3 here! I think Ken just only reads out top 10s as examples.

  10. Finally heard this the other day and this is miles better than nearly anything off the last album ('Arcadia' > but it clears everything else) so she's definitely back on form for me <3 excited for the rest of the album.

Actually think this is my fave lead single from her since at least 'High By The Beach' if not 'West Coast'! Though in fairness I didn't think the lead single was the best song or even particularly close from any of the albums since then.

(also impressive that it managed a top 100 debut deep into the Christmas invasion! can she finally get another top 40 hit from this album pls, it's been too long excluding the Ariana and Taylor collabs)

P.S. 'f*** me to death, love me until I love myself' has to be the most Lana lyric ever

  11. The Cure's 'A Forest' getting a certification!

Also happy to see the silver certs for A$AP Rocky's 'Goldie' and Miike Snow's 'Animal', both songs I am a little nostalgic for from late night Radio 1 of that era.

  12. 'Dogrel' is definitely somewhere on the list of older albums I should listen to one day - I know the two singles you charted from it and liked both of them but 'Televised Mind' was the song that turned me into a fan, loved both their second and third albums ('Skinty Fia' was even better than 'A Hero's Death' for me so a bit of a disagreement there whoops, I am surprised 'I Love You' didn't chart for you at all!)

Completely forgot HEALTH were in Unknown Pleasures and looking back at my rankings I surprisingly didn't vote for their song there at all, have independently rediscovered them recently though and they've had some really good singles of late, particularly the Nine Inch Nails and Poppy collabs as well as 'HATE YOU' with JPEGMAFIA. Btw there are two versions of it on Spotify so I'm not 100% sure about this but I think 'Excess' is just a cover of the Perturbator song of the same name rather than a proper collab - I absolutely love the original version of that, wasn't quite as keen on the HEALTH version.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs' best song for me is still the first one I heard from him which was 'Household Goods', again a little surprised to see that didn't chart for you at all (I think I had it as a BJSC potential back in the day) - 'Garden' was good too though and I was also a big fan of his more recent collabs with Amtrac and Bonobo and his new album had a few good songs on it too though nothing quite as great as the aforementioned.

I'm still waiting to hear something from Phoebe Bridgers as lead artist that I can really get into, she's one of the biggest examples of artists I feel like I should love but just can't get into for some reason (I've enjoyed more stuff from both of the other members of Boygenius). However I am at least a fan of a few of her recent features, the MUNA song as you've mentioned plus her songs with The Killers and *hides* Marcus Mumford.

  13. Nice to see Sub Focus in the charts again but I'm not as into the song as I want to be (heard it once a while ago and remember not loving it, just relistened to it now and still feeling the same) - I do like the use of the vocal sample but find both of the drops to be pretty weak and they kind of kill the momentum of the song for me. The second one is the better of the two but still eh.

  15. I will have seen it in passing in a list of US #1s but I don't think I ever really clocked that Elton John's version of 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' was a US #1. The original is a classic and somewhere up there with my favourite Beatles songs but I don't think I've heard Elton's version.

My favourite song (that I've heard) from these last couple of sections is unironically 'Low'. Most of Flo Rida's songs haven't aged well or were naff to begin with but that and 'Club Can't Handle Me' still hold up for me. And T-Pain is a legend.
