  2. In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez). Madonna looked to be coming for a comfortable win in the last poll with 'Like A Prayer' but the last few votes saw its lead dwindle to the traditional 1 vote gap, with Billy Joel's 'We Didn't Start The Fire' right on her tail. The bronze medal was shared between Alannah Myles' 'Black Velvet' and Fine Young Cannibals' 'She Drives Me Crazy'. Over on the worst poll we had a first for either poll in that there was a unanimous winner - all 12 people who nominated worst songs picked New Kids On The Block's 'I'll Be Loving You (Forever)' as one of their nominations. Michael Bolton was runner up with only half as many votes for 'How Am I Supposed To Live Without You' and the podium was rounded out by Simply Red's 'If You Don't Know Me By Now'. Bobby Brown)) to the end of November 1991 (P.M. Dawn's 'Set Adrift On Memory Bliss'). This poll is very late again due to me being unreliable as ever so it's potentially only open for about 10 hours but if there aren't enough votes by 4pm I'll just leave it open for another week alongside another hopefully more promptly posted poll. x Amy Grant - Baby Baby Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) (feat. 3. Sorry I flopped at getting last week's poll up again. I'll put it up now and again see if it gets enough votes before 4pm to justify playing a recap song, if not we'll have two next week. This week's #2s (we start to run into some quite long running #1s again now so a fairly long list this week): Ace Of Base - All That She Wants Adina Howard - Freak Like Me Boyz II Men - It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday Boyz II Men - Water Runs Dry Dr. Dre - Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang (feat. Am working on it ~
  6. The reception to this seems to be pretty universally positive on Reddit in contrast to all the negativity in here  who do I trust x (I'm still looking forward to hearing this, as I go against the BuzzJack grain in thinking 'Timeless' is one of his best songs) Oop at 'Dancing In The Flames' not even making the tracklist in the end.
  7. I botedT ~

I think the JENNIE song was only released at 5am UK time - if I may make a constructive criticism it might make sense to wait until the daytime to post these threads rather than rushing to get them up right after midnight as it's not going to be uncommon for big pop songs to be 5am releases x

1 HI-LO 2 Gorgon City 3 Topic 4 AC Slater 5 Joel Corry 6 nimino 7 Kygo 8 MORTEN Only playlisting HI-LO this week but the top 5 are all decent. nimino doubling down on amateur sounding songs with annoying vocals but this isn't as bad as 'I Only Smoke When I Drink'. Kygo basic as ever but not his worst. David Guetta stays with the awful remakes. (yay I broke the tie x)
  10. 1 Nova Twins 2 Sam Fender 3 Deacon Blue 4 Papa Roach 5 Good Neighbours 6 The Lathums 7 The Darkness 8 Djo Only Nova Twins that I'll be playlisting but the Sam Fender song is better than 'People Watching' and 'Wild Long Lie' for me at least, hopefully there'll still be at least one song that clicks properly for me this era. Can't say the rest did much for me at all, the Deacon Blue song was fairly pleasant I guess ~ (btw I'd definitely say don't take it personally @ people commenting on certain songs being excluded, you can't please everyone with a limited poll x)
  11. Will do this tomorrow night probably x
  12. Robyn actually in the lead now :o really assumed she would be winning this!
  13. OutKast is top 2 on this list, y'all better not be dumping it in the bottom half x
  14. The Matt Terry version was a remix of an Enrique song that was already out. It didn't really make a lot of sense as a collaboration but it was just Simon trying to cash in on the reggaetón mini-trend going on at the time.
  15. Very pleased this did get to #1 in the UK after all (and may be there for a while) after it appeared to be stalling for a while. It's my favourite UK #1 for a while and great to see a new British artist at the top so early in the year after 2024 was so lacklustre for British artists. Gives me some Wolf Alice vibes ~

1 JoJo 2 Mabel 3 Self Esteem 4 Tate McRae 5 Mike Posner 6 Kane Brown 7 Tom Walker 8 Lauren Spencer Smith Nothing I'll be revisiting again but the top 3 were decent (although agreed with what a lot of people have said that this is an underwhelming direction for Self Esteem to go in). Really not getting much from Tate's recent singles and honestly think this is the weakest of the 3, shame as I loved 'greedy' and 'exes'.

Happy to do a listenthrough this evening :jump:
  19. ^ there weren't any ties (not least for the worst poll which has a unanimous winner this week which you have further added to ) but I'll include your votes for the OP stats anyway. Will endeavour to get the new poll up today.
  20. I specifically cut down the list I posted there to songs that I thought would be uncontroversial to call pop and people are still arguing with me so maybe the problem here is people just being too restrictive with what they consider to be pop songs ddd. 'Scantily Clad' literally sounds like a Chappell Roan song!! And I don't know what other genre you could possibly call 'Honki Ponki' (maybe disco I guess but that's still closer to pop than to anything alternative), I can see why it might not be to the tastes of the typical BJSC pop voter but that doesn't make it not a pop song x
  21. I think pop is doing fine x (of the pop songs that DNQed the only one that was really surprising was Charlotte Sands)
  22. I had a read through this last night and it's mostly a pretty well written article although I notice that it's parroting a blatantly wrong statistic from another article The Guardian did recently about TikTok hits, claiming that Blood Orange's 'Champagne Coast' became a top 20 hit last year when it has in fact still never charted anywhere. The Guardian must have somehow conflated the overall chart with the independent singles chart and the BBC have just repeated that without fact checking clearly! (The paragraph about 'I Wanna Be Yours' is a little misleading/dubious as well as it was never a single and its one week in the chart wasn't until 2022 but I'll give them a bit more leeway on that one x). edit: oh and it says 'Cruel Summer' got to #1 lol but maybe they got it confused with the USA xx

    Recap is brat!
  24. So most people still voted for at least one DNQ despite the rather limited pool - only 7 people in semi 1 and 5 in semi 2 who got a full house (and 3/5 of those in semi 2 were countries who DNQed themselves so had an even smaller pool). Ooop at Terra Avium being only one point off, but a bigger gap in semi 1 (41 points seems like a surprisingly healthy cutoff point there especially with 2 non-voters).
