  1. 'Twist Of Fate' was also in the BJSC 80s spinoff! (Not to make a big deal of it, I'm sure no one is really bothered about songs being reused from that, but just noting).

Aside from knowing those two songs from that spinoff I think the only other one here I know is 'Forever Young' although even with that I am more familiar with the Jay-Z/Mr Hudson version to be fair (and Becky Hill I guess lol) - I see the original didn't actually chart at all in the UK surprisingly although I imagine most people should be at least somewhat familiar with it already so am a little surprised that was allowed through but fair enough!

Of course a handful more fairly obvious artist choices but not recognising any of the song choices for them at least from the titles. Always here for anything forcing me to expand my knowledge of Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys' discographies x

  2. 'Flying Without Wings' and 'World Of Our Own' to be the top 2 please. 'Uptown Girl' and 'You Raise Me Up' are decent too.

After relistening to all of their #1s in the recent #1 listenthroughs I came to the conclusion that 'Fool Again' is probably my least favourite but tbf a lot of them are fairly interchangeable.

  3. You calling 'Bussin' a fantastic song is possibly the most bizarre thing you've said in this thread so far x ('Do We Have A Problem?' was a tune tho)

(in all seriousness though, what Jay said - it was just a weirdly dismissive tone to take about something that is a significant achievement for an artist who's been releasing music for over a decade and never achieved this before, and was absolutely not being widely predicted to achieve it this time either)

  4. Well I've now 'lost' both my top 2 and my bottom 2 from my ranking, very mixed bag of results in the last couple of days  Glad to see Fatman Scoop spared being in the top 10 but the Eamon song is really intolerable, ah well, hopefully Frankee can be top 10 so at least the song progresses in some form (I do very slightly prefer her version due to having less whiny vocals but they're both horrendous).

Glad 'Be Faithful' is gone. Way too shouty for my ears to enjoy, the rest is ok but it's just so off putting for me the vocals. 'Crossroads' is absolute dirge. Not a fan of Eamon either.

Sounds like you would have wanted 'Be Faithful' to be higher on this then? x

  5. Moaning about cheapness aside x this trailer video :cheeseblock: so extra, I love it. I creased at 'Cody style flop'. (The one in the green room thread was iconic as well, forgot to comment on it x)

Got my entry in now, serving some indie-pop with lush dreamy production and quirky spoken word verses ~ (wonder if that's enough information for uhsting to successfully sleuth it )

As with Yumi Zouma and Momma it's another artist I discovered from /r/indieheads who seem to be the top sponsor for Persephonia entries of late. I think this song should be a bit more unique and standout than those two though (I still love both of those entries though don't get me wrong) - will find out soon if that's in a good or bad way as far as appealing to BJSC voters goes...!

  6. (Will try my best to get veto research done in a more timely manner for once - perhaps a good statey funes activity - but in the mean time if people can check if they've sent a song that is currently in the UK top 50 or was a long running top 20 hit earlier in the year, feel free to veto yourselves first xo)
  7. Shame 'La Danza' made absolutely zero noise despite heavy support from Radio 1 (not that their support really directly produces hits these days but it still seems kind of unusual for a dance song to have that level of disconnect between R1 support and chart impact).
  8. That's an acceptable level of vindication for 3 Of A Kind, bottom 5 and at least ranking below A1! I guess I can see why it's not for everyone but I have always thought it's a legit classic of the UK garage genre.

And yes I accept that my opinion on 'Take On Me' is unfairly influenced by circumstances beyond the sound of the song itself, I'm glad others are able to be less annoyed by it :kink:

I think I might have moaned about 911 during the listenthrough (it's hard to remember what I said about each individual one of these identikit midtempo boyband songs) but from a quick revisit it's not really that bad.

  9. Chris Brown peaked with his first hit for me, 'Run It!' is still a banger and he hasn't really come close to it since. The large majority of the hits he's had post Rihanna incident have been at best just ok so for the most part haven't really had to worry too much about separating art from artist in criticising them lol but I will give him that 'Beautiful People' and 'Ayo' were good songs as well (and 'Do It Again' including features), 'Go Crazy' was decent too so I didn't mind too much that one becoming a hit if we have to keep letting him have success. :') that 'Under The Influence' has now outpeaked that though... so now being his highest charter since the similarly dirgy 'No Guidance', but that at least had the factor of being a Drake collab to explain its success.

'Don't Wake Me Up' is easily the worst song I've heard from him though, the autotune is utterly hideous. :puke:

Chris Brown aside, that's a decent start on Spotify as well for Fred, definitely looks like it should be safe to be another top 100 debut for him!

  10. 'Never Forget You' is way ahead of 'Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)' on Spotify streams (105 million vs. 11.7 million) - and I'm not surprised, although DUTR(GBG) was a bigger hit on paper I'm pretty sure I remember hearing NFY just as much if not more at the time and definitely more in the years after release whereas DUTR(GBG) felt quite quickly forgotten! (insert your own jokes)
  11. It's probably still way too early to celebrate it (after how long 'Crazy What Love Can Do' took to peak) but I am loving this failing to make any major moves since its debut so far. The song isn't quite as bad as CWLCD but this sound really needs to be confined to the past. Appropriate song title x
  12. so Drake is now beefing with… Youtube music critic Anthony Fantano

The context behind this is actually hilarious. He leaked those DMs in response to Fantano trolling him by making a video about receiving a DM from him... except editing it to make it appear Drake just sent him a recipe for vegan cookies. Drake could have just ran with that and appeared slightly goofy but instead he was fully baited into leaking his own DMs and making himself look really bad in the process :deadbanana:

  13. Defending this against Dannjohn's peculiar comments aside, this song is actually absolute garbage oops. Although I do like her flow in the second verse. It's just ruined by one of the most irritating hooks I've heard in a long time, and a pretty awkward flow in the first verse. Plus we didn't need another big rap hit sampling 'Super Freak' when 'U Can't Touch This' already exists.

Good for her getting that solo #1 I guess, not that I really want to be rooting for her as a person either.

  14. I'm not familiar with much (any?) of their older material (I'm sure I've heard a few of their songs here and there but I wouldn't say I know any of them particularly well) but I have checked out the first two of the new singles and I enjoyed both of them a fair amount, especially 'She Still Leads Me On'. I might check out the album if the third single is good too (and/or if someone bribes me to).
