  1. I'm not sure I'd go as far as wanting to ban all top 40 hits, most of the non-BJSC contests only ban top 10 hits and I feel that'd be sufficient. Although really the only reason Chappell being entered here was a "problem" is that it was literally the only massive hit that was entered, there's nothing inherently wrong with having a contest where it's fair game to send obvious huge hits (that was the case for the dance anthems spinoffs in BJSC for example, those had a good mix of big hits and more inspired entries from those who still wanted to send them (which I still always would personally) x) but until this year people just avoided sending them here anyway as if following an unwritten rule that entries should be at least somewhat inspired, so having just the one person picking something so obvious stuck out like a sore thumb. Obviously I don't hold any of this against Scene, he didn't break any rules and pretty sure he didn't even enter the first two editions to be aware of that 'convention'! (This is all funnily enough very analogous to the Sound of 2025 outcome which Chappell of course also won )
  2. I'd forgotten that they got a top 40 hit at all off the last album too - it does feel like their relevance tailed off quite rapidly beyond the second album!
  3. Congrats Scene, I'd say there really was never going to be another winner but I guess just one more person purposefully demoting Chappell could have been enough to swing it for Madison Beer to win instead, so the fact it wasn't just a complete landslide makes it feel much less like a win by default! 'Make You Mine' is a great song too (I'm not otherwise a fan of Madison at all but she popped off for this one x), plus 'HEAT' just about snuck into my points (it was outside on first listen but grew on me more) and the other one of my medalists also finished in the top 5 (we love to see another good song contest result for r Spanish kwen) so a strong top 5 overall! Happy to see Sky Ferreira, Magdalena Bay and Camila Cabello in the top 10 as well and yay a top half finish for my favourite discovery from Juana Rozas. Poor Elyanna deserved better tho! My entry was literally a last second scramble as I almost forgot to enter whoops (hopefully will be better prepared and have more options for 2025) so... yay for not coming last? :teresa: I didn't expect to do super well but kinda hoped it might stand out enough to get an ok result from a semi-niche audience but it didn't really land too well even with some of the voters who I would have expected to like it (i.e. Wolf Alice fans) whoops, nevermind! Thanks Jim for being the only person to rank poor brave Etta in the top half of your votes :jump: + Chez, !!!, Lewis, RFC, Jade and John for the other points (whoops those points from Lewis resulting in your own song coming last ) and thanks Jonjo for hosting ofc! Don't see why not at backdating this contest to 2020 and 2021 - although also hoping we may be getting a potentially Jade hosted edition of the regular PFSC in the not too distant future? x Oh I am reading it. Which is why I knew as soon as you acted on SyncTube like you were hearing 'Scene Ballerina' for the first time that it was your entry. aka the old uhsting giveaway
  4. Ah I mentioned on SyncTube that I knew LewisGT was still a fan of Ashe and was wondering who else might have sent her, didn't realise Lewis had actually entered this haha. (will be dipping out and catching up on the rest later now x)
  5. !!! knows that 'I LUV IT' is a banger and slander of it will not be tolerated :cheeseblock:
  6. Not going to be able to follow most of this live unforch but I'll catch up later! Sena Juo not being Cow :o I suppose I need to consider AllStar to be a potential sender of weeb entries in the future as well :kink: uhsting delivering a banger we love to see. Rob as well ofc x + I had a feeling 'Cry For Me' would have been Jade's entry, it's not the one I'd have chosen from 'Imaginal Disk' but it has been growing on me. I'd not heard anything from Oscar And The Wolf for a hot minute, this song is quite different to the stuff I remember from him but still a lite banger ~ (and hmm I'd rather just have a predictable Chappell landslide than Jacqline winning )
  7. I'm not able to do a listenthrough tonight unforch, was planning to do semi 2 tomorrow (although if someone else wants to organise a last minute listenthrough tonight go ahead x). I tried to figure this out while doing the veto research and was struggling to find a definite answer but after digging into it a bit more (i.e. translating the captions on the Instagram account created for 'bruno') I'm fairly sure it's just a side project of Sergio Salvi (1/2 of Delaporte). He's represented in the 'Rendición' video not by the cat but by the plushie monkey :magic: (they should have credited the cat too tbh) aside: am I the only person who had never heard of Haute & Freddy before this contest
  8. Poor brave Cheeky Girls </3 (I also voted for them xx)
  9. Hooray, looks like I get to vote for something else in the next round!
  10. Full results from week 15: Best: Sweet Child O' Mine x10 [won tiebreak] Need You Tonight x10 Got My Mind Set On You x8 Heaven Is A Place On Earth x8 Father Figure x5 Dirty Diana x4 Faith x2 Kokomo x2 Man In The Mirror x2 Monkey x2 Never Gonna Give You Up x2 One More Try x2 Two Hearts x2 Wishing Well x2 (I've Had) The Time Of My Life I Think We're Alone Now Mony Mony Red Red Wine Worst: Where Do Broken Hearts Go x5 Every Rose Has Its Thorn x4 (I've Had) The Time Of My Life x2 Baby, I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley (Free Baby) x2 Hold On To The Nights x2 Look Away x2 Love Bites x2 Seasons Change x2 Anything For You Bad Medicine Could've Been The Flame A Groovy Kind Of Love Red Red Wine ~ My votes for this week: Best: Alannah Myles - Black Velvet Billy Joel - We Didn't Start The Fire Madonna - Like A Prayer Martika - Toy Soldiers Paula Abdul - Cold Hearted 2 discoveries / songs I didn't know well before making my list this week - I'm not sure I'd ever heard the original of 'Toy Soldiers' before and fairly sure 'Cold Hearted' was new to me too and a very pleasant surprise that I liked it even more than 'Straight Up'! That was also close to making my vote as were 'Eternal Flame', 'She Drives Me Crazy', 'Batdance' and 'Hold On'. Plenty more good songs here too, people were complaining about it being a bad week but I think it was actually a good deal better than the last one at the very least. Worst: Michael Bolton - How Am I Supposed To Live Without You New Kids On The Block - I'll Be Loving You (Forever) Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now ...although there were definitely some major stinkers too. The Michael Damian song was pretty naff as well, and 'Hangin' Tough' too, so I could have easily voted for as many as 5 songs this week which I think might be a first, I'm normally struggling a bit to get to 3 songs that I feel strongly enough about to give a negative vote to!
  11. In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez). Last week's (or 2 weeks ago's, oop) poll ended up with a tied leader, a last minute vote from West didn't break the tie as he voted for both of the leading songs but it did get them both to the double figure vote mark. A flash vote on SyncTube decisively broke the tie with a 6-1 vote in favour of Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine', defeating INXS' 'Need You Tonight'. The podium for the week was completed with another tie for 3rd on 8 votes each for George Harrison's 'Got My Mind Set On You' and Belinda Carlisle's 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth'. West's vote did at least continue the streak of every week producing a single winner for the worst poll as Whitney Houston topped the list with 5 votes for 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go', ahead of the 4 votes for Poison's 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn', with 3rd place being a 6-way tie of songs receiving 2 votes each (see the next post for the list). 13. Oh so Bad Bunny only missed out on debuting at #1 because Lil Baby somehow pulled in 50k pure sales? *_* I presume those were mostly bundles. (And he wouldn't have even beaten SZA without them!)
  14. Oops I overlooked 'The Bouncer' entirely in my votes (I think I just didn't immediately recognise the artist name and was going through the list very quickly!), would have got around 16 points from me but I presume the cutoff will be well above 39 points anyway so probably no harm done. Nothing that I actually did vote for dropping out today but quite a few that were very close - 'Antenna', 'Green Tambourine', 'CHIHIRO' and 'Torn On The Platform' are all great tunes too. Surprised to see 'Physical' getting so few points :o felt a little wrong for me to snub the one Kendrick song on this list but 'Die Hard' is one of his less essential hits for me, nice that it got some points though x And it wasn't close to my points but have to acknowledge Tom Odell's appearance here with an obligatory stan post for Monty the penguin x

Yay for 'the perfect pair' going top 100 for the first time (and her other song doing the same as well, not heard that one yet). Gracie's lead really diminished now - I don't know what was up with the First Look chart this week but that does seem to bode well for her to finally fall off #1 this week since ROSÉ and even Lola have a pretty decent lead on her in today's mids.
  17. I presume he would have got the #1 album the following week anyway but delighted to see he did hold off Taylor - it would feel so wrong for this legitimate phenomenon of an album that was continuing to gain popularity every day for some time after its release to miss out on the #1 in its first full week because of a random live album vinyl dump lol ~ not this time Taylor. (still need to listen to the album, will aim to do some time this week x) Talk of the Charts has gone back and forth with its prediction for the Hot 100 #1 this week but their last prediction did have Gaga narrowly ahead. I'm sure it should have been announced by now but close races do sometimes get delayed a bit so maybe it's being left to tomorrow. Amazed that he's even able to be competitive though as 'DtMF' has effectively zero airplay (0.2 million according to TOTC). edit: oh it's actually just being delayed because it's MLK Jr. Day
  18. Semi 1 was decent, think I currently have a clear 10 vote worthy songs from it (not that I'm voting in that semi anyway) but hopefully a couple of others that may be growers. Hiipe to Elëdan, Fljótavík and Neliönoir <3 (diacritic gang x)
  19. Voted, sorry for still leaving it a bit last minute xx

  21. Happy to do a semi 1 listenthrough tonight :jump: (oop slightly short notice but probably best to do it today x). Of the handful of songs I know from this contest already I think my favourite is République d'Áskorza's which got high points from me over on PopJustice! I did listen to the album Aelandor's entry is from but that song wasn't one of the ones I saved from it so fingers crossed it'll be another one that clicks with me more hearing it in isolation years later like Skall's recent Floating Points entry x Also already know and like Bøtanikkä's entry (although it is too short!!) Speaking of song lengths it looks like I narrowly beat Aelandor to have the longest song this month :magic: although still under the 8 minute mark x I found this song from a post on /r/blackcountrynewroad on Reddit just recommending the band as one with a similar sound, the influence is very obvious but it's a beautiful song nonetheless. (Also my 150th entry oh my) Aside: this contest having entries called 'ARMAGEDDON', 'Karma' and 'Karmageddon' :cheeseblock: + I feel like a trendsetter having sent Oklou to the Pop Forum Song Contest a while back and her now suddenly being in such great demand here B-) cool to see Sleater-Kinney entered too as I considered sending them before as well, I know the original song from their album but have not heard this remix yet I think.
  22. There are a few here I've not heard whoops (fell off with keeping up listening to chart entries) but most of the ones I've not heard I doubt would be getting a vote from me anyway. 'All I Ever Am' is a great choice to push to radio from The Cure (although I loved every song on the album so nothing would have been a bad choice x).
