  1. If they had counted sooner it would presumably have declined in each of the last 3 weeks I mean. It had an 'increase' last week but it (probably) wasn't a real one. Unless #1 on the video streaming chart is not even worth 1.2k sales.
  2. Presuming 'Nice To Each Other' should be good to finally go top 5 this week - I guess 'Golden' has scammed its way to staying on SCR with the very convenient timing of its video streams suddenly counting now but should have a clear path to #4 at least? Tame Impala's new song debuting at #77 which is the highest of the era so far. The other two only spent one day in the top 200 each though. I keep expecting something from him to eventually break through a bit more (although if he ever makes a top 40 breakthrough it's probably just as likely if not more that it'd just be one of his old songs getting a focused resurgence than a new release). I mean it was more that you were calling Olivia's song the biggest hit of the year when it still had yet to even overtake 'Golden' (and will only do so this week). This week will probably be its peak with the album release and even then it's not going to be touching the numbers 'Fortnight' did so if the new Taylor album is anywhere near as big she's going to breeze to #1 anyway. I don't see the need for weeks of dramatising the hypothetical situation that the world's biggest musician might (but probably still won't) have to settle for not being #1 on one occasion. Not least because no one has even heard any of the songs yet.
  3. The vocalists are EJAE, AUDREY NUNA and REI AMI who are all definitely real people. x
  4. Also 2/2 and this is where I'd put my 3/3 if I had one
  5. This thread seems ambitious but looking forward to following along x You certainly chose a controversial time to debut! That controversy of course being that I wasn't winning contests any more after my glorious heyday of 67-74 and still never have again to this day I am pretty sure I have received your top marks at least once but I won't spoil it for myself which song(s) that would have been as my memory isn't that good x (Dan's comment in this thread also inspiring the new thread I just dropped, I started typing it out as a reply in this thread then realised it'd be a bit off topic and also massive) I do have all past votes archived (well not all of them, but all since you joined x) so let me know if there's anything you can't find. I know a lot of old BJSC threads have been a bit ruined by the new site automatically converting YouTube links to embeds and breaking some formatting, plus probably a lot of stuff that's lost outside of my archive due to being posted as images which have since gone offline rather than text.
  6. As this has been somewhat of a frequent topic of discussion lately (mainly because of my own pet peeves x), I thought it'd be interesting to compile a list of all the BJSC winning artists' previous entry positions (if any). I definitely felt that the current run of recycled former top 10 artists felt unusual and the stats do support that - we've currently had 5 of them in a row, when it had never previously happened more than 3 times in a row (BJSCs 135-137 and 164-166). Including Amelie Lens as well we're on a run of 6 recycled artists winning in a row which is the second longest such run ever, only beaten by a run of 8 in a row in BJSCs 118-125 (although worth noting that 2 of those 8 also included a non-recycled artist which cannot be said about the current run). It's not all bad news lately though - before this run of recycled winners, 4 of the last 5 winners had been first time entrants. So perhaps we are not doomed to recycled winners forever. x In the list below I've bolded recycled artists and highlighted in red those who had a previous top 10 hit. To avoid getting too much into the weeds I've not counted as a recycle when artists were sent as solo acts after previously being sent as part of a group or vice versa (if I had done BJSCs 77-79 would be another three in a row of recycled top 10 artists as Malin had previously come top 10 as a member of Niki & The Dove). 1 Britney Spears/Junkie XL - first entry 2 Katharine McPhee - first entry 3 The Chicks - first entry 4 Sara Bareilles - first entry 5 t.A.T.u. - first entry 6 Beverley Knight - first entry 7 Katy Perry - first entry 8 Lily Allen - 2nd in BJSC 6 9 Margaret Berger - first entry 10 Brandy - first entry 11 Lenka - first entry 12 La Roux - first entry 13 Agnes - 9th in BJSC 11 14 Uh Huh Her - first entry 15 Röyksopp - 21st in BJSC 8, 18th in BJSC 14 16 V V Brown - 7th in BJSC 10, 8th in BJSC 14 17 Beautiful Small Machines - first entry 18 Kesha - DNQ in BJSC 14 19 Eva Simons - first entry 20 Alphabeat - 8th in BJSC 8 21 The Dolly Rockers - 6th in BJSC 19 22 Ellie Goulding - 15th in BJSC 13, DNQ in BJSC 20 23 MARINA - 18th in BJSC 12, 13th in BJSC 14, 6th in BJSC 16 24 Delphic - first entry 25 Roll Deep/Jodie Connor - first entry 26 Sheelah - first entry 27 Eric Saade - 20th in BJSC 23 28 Molly Sandén - first entry 29 Zoë Badwi - first entry 30 Adele - 12th in BJSC 6 31 Sheelah - 1st in BJSC 26 32 Lykke Li - DNQ in BJSC 7, 26th in BJSC 13, DNQ in BJSC 21, 14th in BJSC 30 33 Agnes Obel - DNQ in BJSC 15 34 Charice - 28th in BJSC 25 35 Chart Music - first entry 36 Lana Del Rey - first entry 37 Jessica Mauboy - 22nd in BJSC 11, DNQ in BJSC 22, 4th in BJSC 30 38 Loreen - first entry 39 Ricki-Lee - DNQ in BJSC 11, DNQ in BJSC 23 40 Rachel Platten - first entry 41 Foxes - first entry 42 Emma Hewitt - first entry 43 Dragonette - 14th in BJSC 2, 9th in BJSC 4, DNQ in BJSC 20, DNQ in BJSC 21, 34th in BJSC 26 44 Ronya - first entry 45 Woodkid - first entry 46 Trentemøller/Ane Trolle - first entry 47 TR/ST - first entry 48 Unicorn Kid - 11th in BJSC 40 49 Fibes, Oh Fibes! - 27th in BJSC 21 50 Frida Sundemo - first entry 51 Kate Boy - first entry 52 Zara Larsson - first entry 53 Carli - first entry 54 Postiljonen - first entry 55 Marcel Woods/Vanbot - Vanbot 3rd in BJSC 33, 15th in BJSC 43 (first entry for Marcel Woods) 56 Ghost Loft - first entry 57 Belanger - first entry 58 Vaults - first entry 59 The Kite String Tangle - first entry 60 Cut Copy - first entry 61 Indila - first entry 62 SOHN - 19th in BJSC 50 63 RuPaul - first entry 64 RAM/Susana - first entry 65 Hervé/Zebra Katz - Hervé DNQ in BJSC 62 (first entry for Zebra Katz) 66 A. Heard this on the radio today and I think I am on board with it but I can't help but feel the vocal mix is a little bit off which spoils it from being an instant big fave for me hmm (I see a number of people on Reddit commenting on this as well so I'm not just making it up). Hopefully I'll just get used to it and bop along. x That niggle aside I definitely think it sounds like a big hit so not surprised it's doing so well off the bat! I certainly prefer it over 'Man I Need' so rooting for it to challenge that in this sudden chart battle of the British pop soul ladies x

Is there actually any relevance to the phrase 'dreaming owl' out of interest? (will try and remember to enter this after I accidentally boycotted the whole of the last quiz season iirc x)
  9. https://sync-tube.de/room/ApAM3t-I 8pm ~ YouTube playlist:
  10. 2 out of 3 of Taylor's recent #1s only spent a week there, it's not a given that she'll get another 'Anti-Hero' style hit from this era so Olivia and/or RAYE could very easily still be #1 contenders for weeks to come yet. Not heard the song yet but it's nice to see RAYE getting another big hit as lead artist, for all the hype around her 'Escapism.' had still been a bit of an outlier until now.
  11. I always mean to listen to some of the songs I'm unfamiliar with for ROTD but then don't get around to it whoops - maybe I should make a playlist of the songs I don't know from this year and aim to familiarise myself with some of them in time for next year (With regards to the specific examples, I only really got into Wolf Alice during the 'Blue Weekend' era so I only know a handful of songs from the first two albums, I haven't heard 'Visions Of A Life', but re alt-J I do know the whole of that album and do just think '3WW' is by far the best song on it! Although 'Adeline' wasn't far off my votes and I would have voted for 'Deadcrush' if it was nominated x)
  12. I am going to do a listenthrough for this today, will start promptly from 8pm for anyone who does want to listen to all the songs at once x (BJSC final listenthroughs are often a pretty similar length albeit tbf with people already knowing at least half the songs - in any case, obviously people can just dip in or out at any time).

Not had any clashes yet! After Water From Your Eyes last month another person has sent another artist I had as a potential iirc around the same time o:
  16. 'Tears' not being cringe enough for the average Sabrina Carpenter fan it appears x
  17. Wolf Alice getting another DTF *.*

  21. It's annoyingly long winded and now takes up a lot more space but yes it is still possible x spoilah click on the black circle with the plus sign (2nd option in the top left of the post box) and select 'wrap in box', then in the box that pops up click the cog in the top right and select 'expandable' (and type something into the box title to indicate it's a spoiler)
  22. He would need to match or come very close to the first week overall numbers of 'Survive' to even be in contention for #1 this week so given the streaming is looking to be a lot lower that means he'd have to find a way to sell even more pure sales. Not impossible but I don't think it's likely. Would predict a #3 debut.
  23. Spotify debuts for the first two singles from the previous Capaldi era compared to the current one: 'Forget Me' - #1 515k 'Pointless' - #18 270k 'Survive' - #3 409k 'Something In The Heavens' - #17 250k So that seems like an ok enough debut for the new song (only a small drop from the debut numbers of his last second single, and it has actually debuted a place higher although tbf 'Pointless' was a December release so it had a lot of Christmas songs ahead of it). Of course 'Pointless' was only a #1 because of that absurd physical push and was otherwise just a top 20 hit with decent although erratic longevity.
  24. Oh, I was looking forward to this finally being back this week :( feel like at this point we've skipped more weeks than not since these started... Anyway, I didn't vote yet so: ABBA - Super Trouper Adam And The Ants - Antmusic The Clash - The Call Up Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry Queen - Flash 'The Call Up' was my fave discovery of the week, honourable mentions to Robert Palmer, Kate Bush and The Boomtown Rats. Next faves of the ones I already knew would be Chas & Dave, Kool & The Gang and Daryl Hall & John Oates. Not as good as the previous weeks in general though.
  25. I think the teaser video needs more CHAS I've not stumbled into any more potentials since a couple of weeks ago so for now the plan is still instrumental glitchy dark techno stomper x
