Well yes, but that's not really relevant? It's done nowhere near as well as the original 'SOS' either here or in the US. That had 9 songs in the top 40 in the UK on day 1, including having the 2nd, 3rd and 5th highest non-Christmas songs. The dropoff in the US is arguably even more extreme, the original album had the entire top 11 and a bunch more in the top 20 on day 1 there, while the deluxe has only got 1 song in the top 20 (at #9).

  4. In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez). Last week's poll attracted a record 16 votes for the best poll (and also a record 14 for the worst), but votes were highly spread out with a total of 28 songs getting at least one best vote, so the top pick didn't manage to crack double figures like in the last two polls. It was a tie for first place on 9 votes each between Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' and Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)' - a snap poll of early attendees to SyncTube granted the tiebreak win to Michael by 5 votes to 3. Toto's 'Africa' rounded out the top 3 of the week only one vote behind the leaders. There was a runaway top 2 in the worst poll as Stevie Wonder became the first artist to win both the best and worst polls, with 'I Just Called To Say I Love You' also picking up 9 votes, 1 ahead of Lionel Richie's 'Truly'. Lionel would have won combined as 'Hello' completed the top 3 although a way back on only 3 votes. Does seem like a surprisingly muted opening for SZA even with it being released in Christmas week - I guess the fact that it's just marketed as a deluxe version of her previous album doesn't help but it is effectively an entire new album. Might pick up more in January I guess.
  7. https://sync-tube.de/room/G3URuYMG Starting from 4pm ish as usual, might be running a little late today x (will need people around to break the poll tiebreak though x)
  8. We have a tie for the best poll winner - about 3 hours left for anyone to break the tie, otherwise will resolve with a flash poll of early SyncTube attendees again x

More love for 'Farewell To The Fairground' also a great week for Billie Eilish getting 2 gold and 2 silver certifications.

  11. I don't think anyone has specifically asked for it not to be so yes x
  12. Are we just not allowing any songs that have appeared in previous song contests in this now then? A couple of those vetoes seem a little harsh! (Obviously do agree with not allowing songs that were entered to previous editions of this contest specifically but don't think there's any harm letting in songs that have been in other contests before especially if they didn't do that well the first time and/or were a long time ago) ((although flashbacks to the time Colm accidentally recycled my 4th placed Club Bizarre entry from Nils Frahm for a BJSC spinoff and came 2nd with it lol)) I know the Paula Cole song very well from being on a playlist my mum made that she used to put on all the time so a very nostalgic song for me, surprised it only charted at #15. (and likewise heard 'Jóga' from BJSC Re:LOADED, also a good song x)

SZA seems to be quite fond of a December release - the original album also came out in December as did both of its first two singles (2 years and 1 year before the album respectively lol, 'Good Days' literally dropped on Christmas Day in 2020).
  14. Confirmeded x (if I flop, my excuse is that my right earphone decided to just completely die this evening oop)

'White Christmas' has been glitchy on Spotify before, it was getting the streams of 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' some days last year iirc. Not sure how this happens... (also I find myself firmly in favour of "fake" "Alexa" streams this year, I'm no big fan of 'Last Christmas' but Gracie Abrams would be an awful Christmas #1)
  16. Brer posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
We love to see Kween Brenda overtaking Mariah *.* do the same on the official chart now please x Apple's main Christmas playlist has always had the UK-specific hits more favourably placed. I'm sure Spotify does have Christmas playlists that are like that as well, they're just not the first ones that come up on a search. I liked the one song I heard before from Sam Barber ('Straight And Narrow'), another artist more from the 'alternative' side of country a la Zach Bryan and Dylan Gossett, so probably here for him to be maybe lining up a January hit.
  17. Surprising that Sir Starmer And The Granny Harmers have only released the one version. I'd imagine they would at least chart somewhere if they played the same game as The Kunts. (and... after quickly listening to the iTunes preview of Beardman I think I'm gonna politely disagree about it not being crap  what is it with these novelty campaigns and beards anyway... I wouldn't be mad if Beardyman was going for a Christmas #1 campaign though, which was what I originally thought this one was before being disappointed)

Oh wow the top 2 exactly matches my own top 2, we did good! I wasn't actually expecting 'Big Foot' to win let alone by so much, simply because it seemed quite a few people didn't vote for it presumably because they hadn't heard it - speaks volumes that it has still managed to be a landslide winner despite being only a blink and you'll miss it "hit", it's about as close as we're ever going to get to something that can really be called objectively the worst hit of the year, absolutely gross and almost entirely lacking in musical merit. 'Whatever' really grated on me for two reasons, 1) that it just sounded like the same Kygo song that he's released 500 times before that already got stale for me the second time so to still be hearing it in the charts in 2024 was just beyond tedious, and 2) I just really can't stand these dance remakes that slightly tweak the lyrics so it's almost the same but more basic, it's so uncanny (see also 'I'm Good (Blue)' and 'I Don't Wanna Wait'), would really have preferred if they just made it a straight cover. As I said in my votes I don't really remember much about Creator Universe aside from that I didn't like it, I'm not planning to ever relisten to it to remind myself exactly why that was  I didn't particularly like the Ice Spice song but it was too boring to really elicit a strong negative reaction either (despite her really trying with some of those lyrics). I personally really enjoyed 'I LUV IT' but obviously can see why so many people didn't, and likewise to a slightly lesser extent for 'CARNIVAL'. Eh there were definitely a lot of people who never liked it! (if anything I see more positivity for it on here than elsewhere, and not only because of Joseph x)

(And shoutout to Hall & Oates for being a reminder of the Uniting Nations version of 'Out Of Touch', I liked the original too but Uniting Nations did take the best part of it, killer chorus x) Worst: Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You I don't think there was anything quite comatose enough to go on here just for being boring, even the Lionel songs were mostly alright this week ('Truly' was a little drab but better than his songs from last week). So just the one nod to this naffness, otherwise a good week x
  20. After counting the 2 slightly late votes (fair enough when I opened the thread so late in the first place x), Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)' matched the record set by Blondie the previous week of 10 votes to top week 11's poll. We were however back to the traditional 1 vote margin as The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' ran it close with 9 votes, while the podium was rounded out by Lipps, Inc.'s 'Funkytown' on 7 votes. 7 votes was enough for Commodores to take the title of worst of the week with 'Still', with its two closest competitors in joint second being Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder's 'Ebony And Ivory' (so McCartney not quite getting to be the first artist to win both best and worst polls) and Kenny Rogers' 'Lady' on 5 votes apiece. Ah sorry I think I misinterpreted this, yeah I think it needs to be on and then you can just click through the warning screen. (I have no idea what the other error message is about, I don't think that one has anything to do with the non-secure protocol?)
  25. ^ technically a little bit late as I already played the winner on SyncTube but those votes don't change the winner(s) so I'll count them for the official stats :magic: (no more votes tho pls x)
