Ah I see. It might be elgornio rather than DaTilt then.

I’m sure Calum’s fibbing about me getting 14/15 haha! Also meant to say I really hope dandy* is OK -I’d noticed he hadn’t been posting much.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Gamu Nhengu Gold Card Results
Thanks Calum for all your hard work - as ever but with this round especially! The write ups are lovely. I may or may not have been expecting to be out. Last time’s equivalent round was horribly cruel to the retro acts, with “Call Me” and “Careless Whisper” not even making it. So it was nice that that wasn’t repeated: the results were almost too kind to the retro acts this time, but I think it’s swings and roundabouts. Let’s do some guesses then: Adele - Paddington Marina - Rich Sophie - Joseph Zara - Jack Kate - Julian Sam F - Electroboy Darin - Rob Tom - Lee Sam S - Spiceboy Gary - Jade Texas - Mangø New Order - Jim Bananarama - DaTilt Fontaines - Bray Depeche Mode - Dan I may or may not have got my own correct. 😜

Essentially- The Pet Shop Boys Rate!
“Thursday” is my favourite out so far - I gave that a whopping 5. I didn’t think it entirely worked but it had some interesting elements and I found it a cut above most of the recent stuff. “It Doesn’t Often Snow At Christmas” was my lowest score of the whole thing - I found that very naff. Most of the others out were around 3s for me so nothing I really enjoyed.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Gamu Nhengu Gold Card in Geneva (Groups)
Great round from top to bottom including probably 2 of my all time top 100. Nice to have another Bop Idol medalist too. I rather enjoyed the DOA song too but was reluctant to place it above chosen songs.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Gamu Nhengu Gold Card in Geneva (Solo Female)
Special mention to Jessie and Milica for sending beautiful songs. They have no chance but I made sure they were well rewarded in my ranking.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Gamu Nhengu Gold Card in Geneva (Solo Male)
Mostly enjoyed the artists I usually enjoy here. I actually enjoyed the Bladee song too - was a bit of a journey, though Pop Factor poison obviously.

Jester ranks the 2014 number 1s
Catching up again: “Blame” isn’t bad but I feel like John Newman has only one style really. “Gecko (Overdrive) is one of the best out so far. Becky’s own hits are mostly quite bland but that suits her vocal style perfectly. I said before I’m really quite fond of “Happy”. In fact I think I enjoy it more than “Uptown Funk”, though the latter is certainly an incredibly cleverly written and catchy throwback style song. “Ghost” is well sung but quite repetitive and I got bored of it quickly. “Timber” is also quite repetitive but you can see why it was so successful and it’s still heard around quite a bit.

Unknown Pleasures 36: VOTING
Maggotsforbrains summed up the Maria & The Mirrors song well as industrial site noise. I did like it a lot after not being sure at first though!

Unknown Pleasures 36: VOTING
Otay:onii and Maria & The Mirrors both went down very well, but not to the point where they eclipsed PISS.
-
Unknown Pleasures 36: VOTING
Also on the PISS train for winning, but quietly hopeful for a good position for my understated entry - better than my 29th place last time anyway!
