Rule The World is on Wikipedia as 1.8m - not sure how reliable that is though.

It 'could' give some of the artists a chance at a top 40 placing which they will never get from streaming, in turn leading to slightly better and longer album chart runs due to the increased awareness. I guess if it becomes commercially viable it'll happen. I didn't realise it was to some degree (as per the other posts).

Just wondering, with album vinyls sales growing and disrupting the album chart, is there any chance singles may also take off (7" and 12')? They also work well as collectibles, are cheaper, good up-sales for online stores (particularly artist own stores I think) and may plug gaps in factory production schedules? I would welcome something that could mix things up with sales. Having said that, I probably wouldn't buy any. I have about 200 albums from the 80s and 90s, but have not bought one since the resurgence started.

Thanks all - I’ll go with Pulse. It looks decent…but I know it just won’t be the same 😇

I've moved to the States and while I will continue to keep up with Buzzjack :-), I am looking for a US equivalent. I have found Pulse Music Boards which seems similar and I might try that, but just wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Merry Christmas! Thanks
  7. John Grant.....but sometimes I think people are exactly where they want to be, he probably did 'happen'. Ben Platt....could still 'happen' in a mainstream way (although I also think the level of musical success is pitched about right with the tv, films and theatre).
  8. Not sure if been mentioned, but I also think in the back of the OCCs mind they want to stop As It Was having a ridiculous streak at number one (20+ weeks or something) and this way puts a positive spin on it and the focus elsewhere. Also, the rules are silly anyway but I like the new peak auto-reset as an option IF acr has to stay.
  9. Hmmm - lots of good ones and I will check out Deacon Blue and The Killers. I only found out this year that Bananarama released a Xmas banger in 2010! Had it been there though, I'd have voted for December Song by George Michael. Possibly my favouritist xmas song ever.
  10. Some of us remember working hard to buy tickets for the 25 Wembley shows. For more to then be released. Then she can cancels some of the first shows released while some of the second shows released go ahead. When she already had previous form for cancelling. Streams sales from me for this new shiz. Zero. Who cares? Probably only me 😂

The Brits ceased to be relevant about 15 years ago, but I don't think it's so difficult to move it along in the gender sense: Best album by a UK artist Best single by a UK artist Best album by a non-UK artists Best Single by a UK artist Creative award for a UK artist album campaign (doesn't have a to a be video) Creative award for a non-UK artist album campaign Best tour by a UK act Best tour by a non-UK act Best UK debut album Best non-uk debut album Best UK song in a movie Best UK newcomer Best UK revival Etc...
  12. Deleted...re-read original post
  13. Not sure of the numbers, but Brit Award winners Five Star :D seemed to always be in the charts for many years...

Loads of vinyl in Ocean Terminal (Edinburgh) and I find Westfield White City is usually reasonably decent. There's something experiential missing though - and if I was an expert I'd put my finger on it but I'm not. Maybe they just need to darken the stores a little and do some funky lighting or something - doesn't have to be expensive, just to zhush it up a bit. Even allow a take away coffee bar or something to bring in people (as there is no stopping the coffee)!
  15. Unbreakable is such a brilliant album, 15,000 sales or 15m. I think so anyway.... (am also a massive fan of Control, RN1814 and All For You).
  16. That'll be Ben Platt, "Sing to me instead', :cheer: if there is any justice in this world!
  17. I agree - Hugh Jackman on tour and accompanying promo and general hype will also help.
  18. Are we considering the Cliff Richard album a success?
  19. They may not have all five or reached the top of the manipulated charts, but These Days, Get Ready For It, and Giants are all great singles too.
  20. Loads of acts are one album wonders - and they are lucky to have that, it's not a bad thing. I remember, back in the day, Delta Goodrem was equalling and gonna be bigger than Kyiie, Holly Valance was comparable to Kylie in Aus...... They need to embrace the one album - it will give them enough of an income and career for life!
  21. Like it or not, plenty people also consider ‘gay’ to be a derogatory and/or offensive term if used on them, and to use against others. Should it be bleeped out of ‘Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas’’? I don’t think anyone would ask for that as, like FONY, we know the meaning was ‘happy’ when it was written. ‘Twisting the night away’ is another one - should that be bleeped? And what about ‘The great pretender’ this strays further into the FONY territory as you could, if you want to, say it’s comparing gay people to clowns. I don’t think any of that, but it doesn’t mean others won’t think that...and it’s a slippery slope. Leave FONY bleep free.
  22. My take is that for whatever reason, and the song can’t have been written with this in mind, is that FONY has become a culturally significant song in the UK. A piece of art if you like, and like many pieces of art it has an element that provokes discussion, makes it more interesting than the rest and keeps it relevant. There’s many elements in art pieces that could be censored because it may cause offence to a group of people, such as nudity or violence. These are not censored in galleries, books, libraries etc because people learn from them and doing so takes away from the whole. There’s also plenty other songs that are offensive to the LBGTQ+ community that don’t provoke this discussion because they are not significant to the general population, unlike FONY. Therefore, I don’t think it should be bleeped or only be played at certain times. It wasn’t written to cause offence. Being offended is part of life but people also have to learn when not to take offence.
  23. Thankfully it's being released after Louisa Johnson's album :P
  24. Will Young? Is this confirmed? I'm sure he said on Homosapiens that he was done with recording music. He seems to flip flop on things anyway - I hope there is a new album.....I'm now looking forward to it from this minute!
