4th September Chart Battle
THAT It does not take a genius to notice Leona's fanbase is much much bigger than Pixie's. Even her second album with bad single choices and little support + full surrender after (or slightly before) IGY sold 600k before dropping out of the charts. I don't think Pixie's 2nd era will even match her first one... It is just unlikely she will get 3-4 more big hits from this album too (now she is not even a freshman!). Perhaps albums-wise she could still do 3*Plat though (I don't think she will). As for the Sats and Sugas they are already a little insignificant imo. Could have a single in top 10 but it will drop like a stone and their albums won't sell much. Leona's song on its own is not a proper no1 either. The lack of better song is what could send her to the top.

4th September Chart Battle
None of the four songs will become a huge hit imo. Considering the low sales all should get top 15 at least. Leona's song is the only one I can stand but it is not good enough either. I expect Leona will get a quiet no1 (60k-ish) but Collide will be forgotten soon enough. I hope her album has much better songs than Collide. Do they have any good promo lined up?

Robbie hints at new Take That album and tour!
7heDreamer posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatOn the 'examples' I did say almost everything I wanted to in my previous long post... Perhaps I generally underestimate Mark (about his contribution on previous TT albums). I do not like his voice and I know little about him, I don't even know what his solo work did/would look like. Now, you sound too sorry... do I scare people away?   P.S. have we narrowed it down to 3 people at least now or are we about to be attacked by a Howard or Jason fan? Robbie hints at new Take That album and tour!
7heDreamer posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatTHAT was an achievement! (I quoted the wrong part of your post but lets not ruin it! :teresa: ) I wasn't really going to write this long post (it was my opinion on the album since Xmas) but I guess I am a little fed up with TT lately. Never been a huge fan of them as a band but I've talked to much about them lately, listened to a 'TT' album too many times and even watched too much of them online and live... The 'permanent' reunion suggestion is what brought me to the boiling point  ""But what do they say at the documentaries that you're so sceptical?"" Everything they say. It is business after all, isn't it? (and it HAD to sound like a full reunion, like the four of them brainstorming together to come up with the songs) When a song supposed to be written by GB does not sound like him and a chorus Robbie wrote does not sound like RW I cannot simply believe anything they say... Whether Robbie did or didn't have the lions share in the making of Progress is not sth we are going to agree on I see. But it doesn't matter anymore, the album's success is equally down to Robbie and TT4 imo anyway.

Robbie hints at new Take That album and tour!
7heDreamer posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatI HUGELY agree. No matter what they say at the documentaries I do not believe the 5 sat down and came up with the music and lyrics. Musically GB cannot persuade me EVER he could write some of the baselines on Progress and do not wonder why! Underground machine? SOS? Kidz? It is not his kind of thing. The only idea I could consider as possible is: Gary has written a piano thing that was converted and HUGELY enriched to an electronic baseline by the producer (which actually takes away most of the credit from him anyway). It looks like some of the songs were worked on two layers (or more). Happy Now lyrically and musically is 100% Robbie. But the chorus is SO not Robbie. My best guess is he suggested it and they changed the chorus to sound more TT. SOS Same thing. 8 letters Even though Robbie said he wrote 8 letters, I cannot see how Robbie could have lyrically written the verses. He doesn't write like that, this is Barlow. I wouldn't be surprised if an older Robbie demo leaks some day with 8 Letters but different (lyrically) verses. What do you want from me and Flowerbed could be just Mark and then the producer brought them to life with music. Underground Machine Robbie song (I don't see why would anyone disagree here). It must have been an unfinished song because the chorus sounds like it was written over the rest. I guess the 5 together could have written the chorus, or even Robbie himself. Pretty things sounds A LOT like Robbie's Rudebox songs, leftovers or even like Last Days of Disco from RKTVS. Not lyrically, MUSICALLY. Could it be that Gary wrote the strings and the producer WANTED to make them sound like Robbie's previous material? Perhaps. Lyrically it is strange enough to be written by more than one persons at he same time so this could be a collaboration (or just Robbie, he writes obscure lyrics every now and then). The Flood Lyrically Robbie and Robbie musically it is like Robbie verses Gary chorus but it is not a sure thing. Also looks like the chorus has been placed over the verses. Wait Lyrics to Robbie, musically DOES sound like Rudebox (the Actor) doesn't it? It could be Gary only if he has been browsing Robbie's Rudebox material  Kidz This is a tough one. Lyrically (unsurprisingly) Robbie musically it is closer to Robbie and Mark. It must have been the song they worked the most on. It sounds like it was modified a lot of times. No doubt they used it for Love Love as well. (which actually is what Kidz would musically sound like if it was a TT song) All in all I think all songs except from FB and WDYWFM have strong Robbie orientations musically and the lyrics are Robbie's thing appart from some TT friendly written-over choruses. (2nd layer). Forget all that, if you istened to this album (sang by an unknown voice) who would you think this is? Counting out FB and WDYWFM I would say Robbie for sure. Compare Rob's and TT discography and you'll get to the same conclusion. Was it really ''a new direction, a new path the 5 walked to together for the first time"? No  Just the four of them. (unless if they WANTED to make it sound like Robbie which makes no sense to me) P.S. I have read here and there people saying that Mark wrote the lyrics for KIdz and Gary for the Flood and Wait. That was a good one. On Gary co-writing Robbie's album I guess we will have to wait and see whether his presence has an impact on Rob's material, or not. (I didn't see it on Shame and Heart and I to be fair) (To be honest I do not expect any change. Gary will be writing strings FOR Robbie, "he knows what he should sound like''. They are not reforging Robbie's career together and I am pretty sure Gary knows that. It should be just more pleasant ,and let's hope productive, for Robbie to work with Gary rather than other ''music people'' since he is not a fully accomplished musician and only writes baslines. But this is still only a 'good' predicion. Perhaps they will surprise me after all.) On Mark, besides finally singing a big percentage of the songs and writing some on his own he looked to me like the ''connecting'' element of the band.

Robbie hints at new Take That album and tour!
7heDreamer posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatGary has written almost every TT song until 'Progress', it is crystal clear to me too (sorry if by saying Gary I offended a Mark or Howard fan they had their input into the songs I just wanted to underline it was not Robbie). It is just my opinion (and I have arguments to support it in case you want to listen to them - which doesn't mean that I couldn't still be wrong) that Progress is to Gary what the Emancipation of Mimi is to Celine Dion. I think Robbie is one of the most likeable superstars of all time and I do not like the way Gary has been managing himself during all these years. Stll, at the critical point (when they were both trying to become famous and prove themselves) Gary (with a little help from the management) chose to put Robbie in the shadows at the first TT era proving how selfish he was and following that Robbie bashed Gary at every chance during the beginning of his career 'feasting' on his downfall. I am not delusional ;) . It is obvious that not much is at stake now and they can both pretend to be (or even really be) nice but they weren't always like that and they both have a huge ego. You are not supposed to know everything I've posted but the truth is I've already said that flowerbed and What do you want from me do not sound like Robbie's songs. I say Robbie is mainly resposible for the concept, the direction and most of the songs. This doesn't mean the producer didn't do the production or Gary didn't change any music or the 5 of them didn't work some of he songs/choruses together. (as a matter of fact some hybrid features in songs for example in SOS show it has been worked in two 'layers' to be made TT friendly.)

Robbie hints at new Take That album and tour!
7heDreamer posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatTitle says: Robbie hints at new Take That album and tour! Ain't happening :P Gary at war with Rob is  though. I guess Gary will welcome him to perform his single at XF and judge him as well. ;) All in all I enjoyed the tour and the album was good but it was not really a TT album imo. Gary just had to give Rob enough space to be back in the band, and despite the fact their voices sounded identical musically they are still miles away. I bet Rob's lyrics were torturing Gary all over the album. If you mix 2 good acts you don't get an even better act. Gary has written much better songs than Progress (assuming he wrote some for Progress, which is not given imo) and so has Robbie. A 'classic' album is the only thing TT4 or TT5 could do after 'progress' but the surprise and reunion elements are now gone. I doubt Robbie would want to give up his solo career that way. If he lets his new album without proper promo or tour but tours and promotes for TT it would be toxic for his career. People will start talking again and fans could be deserting both acts. How did the 'Progess era' collaboration work? Robbie thinks to himself: "well I am the biggest solo brit of all time, let Gary be in charge here, I have OVERproven myself after the split up anyway" Same way Gary thinks: "I've written all TT stuff over these years; let him write progress, I have nothing to prove. I call the shots, I have chosen to let him back, and I am generous enough to let him lead for the time being (perhaps Kath will think I am a warm person rather than greedy now  )." They are grown men and friends now only because there is a sweet balance in both acts being extemely successful. If Rob sinks his solo he will 'need' a leading role in TT and they could spilt up in no time again. And staying in TT while neglecting his solo WILL sink Robbie's career. That's why it ain't happening (yet) and all 5 are happy with it.

Most Influential Artist of the last 20 years
Could someone define 'Best and Most influential' so that we at least speak the same language? What are we looking for? Singers who have (with their songs or image) influenced the most singers (of the next generations) with the work they did in these 20 years? Reading the headline I thought it was about something else (global incluence- not only singers, also non-musical influence, trends or whatever, and there is also best...) EDIT: also do we care of he/she did most of the work or it was an image created by the managers, team etc?

Most Influential Artist of the last 20 years
COME ON! I didn't revise my post with SUCH precision. I understand the comment about Eminem but this it too much. I was sure you would get what everyone was supposed to mean. Mariah (the way she was singing) influenced female singers doing the same genre of music. And mariah has influenced a lot of people not involved in music business. Adelle doesn't look like a Mariah wannabe to me but I wouldn't be shocked if she listed Mariah among people who have influenced her either. Was this all about 'EVERYONE' or are you trying to say that she shouldn't be mentioned among 'the best and most influential'?

Most Influential Artist of the last 20 years
I am not too well aqainted that's for sure <_< And that was stupid indeed... I meant biggest. ;)
-
Most Influential Artist of the last 20 years
That was not the point, not even me being a fan... We understand influence in a different way. You mean musically influencing new generations of artists with your personal style, lyrics or music. If that's the question the answer is not Robbie. Now you also mixed up ORIGINALITY. Being influential has nothing to do with being original*. I could be original but I guess I would not influence a lot of people ;) . Robbie as an artist has not been influential the way you put it. But he is a case on his own isn't he? His way of thinking, of talking (even of entertaining to some extend) is original and so are his lyrics. And perhaps you missunderstood that I was trying to compare him with TT (it was not random that I did not mention them at my post). It s just that your Cheryl and Sats comparison...(understand what you should I won't say more on that thing: I study Physics and I am no Einstein still I am no SuBo ;) ) Even compared with TT he should be higher in terms of originality and influence in the UK. Outside the UK it would be unfair to compare them really. It would be like saying Rob has been 'better and more influential' in the US than Eminem . * for example Gaga has partly copied a lot of these artists indeed but Gaga was the most influential person of 2010 instead David Bowie, Madonna, Manson, Queen. It was through her mouth, clothes and songs and you shouldn't try to send her impact all the way back to the roots of her personal artistic influence.

Most Influential Artist of the last 20 years
But it was 'Best & Most influential' . And I believe most 'influential' can be close to 'successful' sometimes. It could be 2 lists I guess. Still I feel a little weird reading the 'set' of 'artists' you put in the same box. I think you should cross out Robbie. It could be down to taste anyway, some people may feel he is all around same leage and quality with Cheryl and the Sats.   (perhaps they should be given a handful of Brits , Records and non-British no1's too. ;) ) Perhaps I got it wrong. I thought it was not only about who has been the most innovative musicaly. Influence also means power, fame, star quality, sales, people singing your songs even copyng your hearcut imo.

Most Influential Artist of the last 20 years
You mean fot the UK or worldwide? (the ones I choose are in bold, and the percentages are how much I think they deserve to win) I'd cross out MJ. He hasn't really peaked during the 'core' of this period. Mariah Carey (90%). Huge tallent and probably the most influential singer for females. Everyone coppied her style. Madonna. (80%) Queen of pop. A lot of worldwide success in this period of time. Perhaps the smartest and most ground-breaking female of all time in pop. Not much of an artistic talent imo but the Queen is Queen. Take That . UK DEFINITELY worldwide NO. Boyband's are not pupular during the last decade (at least) and I doubt they have been any influential at all. I have never been a big fan but there has been undisputable talent in the group (even as four). I think if I had to choose the most influential and successful boyband WW for these 20 years I'd go with Backstreetboys. Robbie Williams. (100%) Never big in the USA but overall he could be the biggest star of these 20 years. He also has coincidence on his side here because his whole career is included in these 20 years. Influential? Yes but not the MOST influential. Coldplay (60%) Their success has been kind of quiet (still big). Beautifull songs and albums but I don't feel like they could be the most popular the best or the most influential (despite tha fact that I love the much more than half of the people I've already suggested) Linkin Park (70%) Alternative band with MASSIVE success to young people. I would expect popstars to be the most successful but this was a nice change. When alternative music becomes that mainstream and a MUST (it WAS a must) for the youth it is something special. Deserve to be in that list for that reason too imo. Evanescence (70%) For the same reasons. It was surprising to see people (both UK and Greece) that never listened to and hard rock or metal singing Bring me to Life or My Immortal non-stop. Plus the sales were vast. Influential? I don't know perhaps girls just wanted to dress a little darker  Sakira. She peaked during that period of time but her sales weren't that consistant imo. Rihanna (80%) The most STANDARD popstar imo. Huge worldwide sucess + manages to stay top for many years. Influential? Not really, perhaps her hair  Best? No. But most popstars come and go so being 'top 5' every year is huge. Britney (100%) Was named the princess of pop. Was the HUGEST thing when she appeared but messed up her carrer later on. She is till on and quite sucessful though. She is clearly not the best artist but her moves, her songs, they were influential. She was the first young disney-talent-popstar and a lot tried to follow her footsteps in the past. Deserves a spot imo. Avril Lavigne (70%) The hottest thing when she showed up. Rebel, different songs, her own style, huge impact on the younger generation, a lot tried to copy her. She is not big anymore but she was significant enough during her hot years to deserve a spot imo. Backstreet boys (80%) I never though they were really talented or big artists but they used to be huge. The definition of a boyband. Influential? I don't know they were trendy so I wouldn't really notice. Leona, Kelly Clarkson: The best 'winners' but I don't think they have what it takes to be in that list. Adelle, Winehouse, Gaga: MUCH tallent (different kind of!) but they were too late to be incuded imo. It would be unfair for the rest. If it was for the last 5-8 years all 3 would be in. I am not sure about Gaga because she IS the fame monster... perhaps we should include her after all. She has already been most influential. Eminem (100%) The biggest rapper of all time should be in. I never liked him and his only songs I could stand is his Dido and Rihanna duets but he is important nevertheless. He is also behind 50cent's success. I hope I am not forgetting too many...

She is not yet I would say. That's because she is more mainstream and less special. Amy had all this Emo thing going on and was more of an artistic appearence and character overall. Plus had therefore all this negative and postive publishity following her around. Musically I think 21 is close to Back to Black. Two of the best british talents of the decade (if not the two best). :cheer: I don't think her songs have been no1 in many countries to be fair. Especially SFTTR mustnot have achieved that anywhere. But even RITD must only have the no1 of the US and SLY the UK one and perhaps a FEW more.
