Posted October 1, 201014 yr There was a thread like this but it ended about two years ago so I thought I'd start another one. The idea is to create a chain of songs with each one linked to the previous one. The rules are 1) All songs must fit into the definition of retro 2) The link can be to do with the song, the artist or some quirky little fact to do with either 3) You can't choose another song by exactly the same artist unless there is another interesting fact linking the two songs 4) Wait for someone else to post unless nobody has posted for 48 hours (apart from the first link which I will post next) As an example of how obscure a link can be, one of my favourites in the previous thread was from a Doors song. My link was that Jim Morrison is buried at Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris. So is Georges Bizet who wrote the opera Carmen. So that gave me Eric Carmen :D So, the obvious song to start this is Fleetwood Mac - The Chain dGykwC0fdJ4
October 1, 201014 yr Author The Chain was on the album Rumours. So that gives us Graham Parker and The Rumour - Don't Ask Me Questions _U0rKAcXZ5c
October 1, 201014 yr Author Like that indeed :) So, ignoring the obvious John Lydon link, Public Image Ltd. were also known simply as PIL which brings us to Elvis Costello - Pills And Soap aTn4qGHgzFE
October 1, 201014 yr ^ Which was just one of a number of 60s tacks covered by The Damned. As was this... 5upC1R2ROHI&feature=fvst
October 1, 201014 yr Author The original version of that glorious song was by Love who should not be confused with House Of Love - Shine On uZxhAkb8GAA
October 1, 201014 yr Author Harry was a bit sluggish too and also need some encouragement to get a move on Sham 69 - Hurry Up Harry z2xdCvhvyqY
October 1, 201014 yr In 2006, a re-recorded version of 'Hurry Up Harry' was used as an unofficial anthem for the World Cup. A re-recorded version of this song was also released that summer for the same reason - H8U-I0RH8Cc
October 1, 201014 yr Author The song was also recorded by a group of Brighton and Hove Albion supporters as part of their campaign for a new ground - it finally opens next year. One of Brighton's most famous supporters is Tony Hawkes but I'm not going to inflict Stutter Rap on you. Instead, another famous supporter is Norman Cook who produced this Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha Oupqk9QYVTc
October 1, 201014 yr And in cornershops across the nation, many people buy this "newspaper" every Sunday rAXeUKPwBj4
October 2, 201014 yr Author Great link  The Jam came from Woking in Surrey. H G Wells was living there when he wrote War of the Worlds and set the novel in his then home town. So, from Jeff Wayne's musical version we get Justin Hayward - Forever Autumn CO9Qx7Kp_I8
October 2, 201014 yr Oooh this gives me chance to link to probably my favourite Kinks song! No real explanation needed for this one... zNgo07Cg7lI
October 3, 201014 yr Author The Kinks included a pair of feuding brothers until Dave Davies left. Another band included a pair of feuding brothers until the very end Oasis - Supersonic p29MG7wn4F8
October 3, 201014 yr Oasis were quite famously on Creation Records, the label which took it's name from this 60s garage rock band. Incidentally I always felt Oasis would have done a cracking version of this. Better than Ride's anyway MemPXH6Qmok
October 3, 201014 yr Author The biblical story of the creation was in Genesis so we get Genesis - Supper's Ready 5vkde_1PIxc
October 4, 201014 yr Supper' Ready is from the album Foxtrot which is a well known dance. As is the Waltz and this features in the classic rock movie The Last Waltz -VShpcqd3zE
October 4, 201014 yr Author From The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down to the slightly less specific Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons - The Night XsSoDsxB7Yo
