How can you not love the Good Time acoustic

Eh it just didn't seem that great, like it could have been unfortunately :(

Movie Soundtrack Rank

5. 7.5 Shine Your Way (feat. Yuna) (The Croods)

I think this one is quite boring in parts, especially the first few verses. It does pick up a bit later on though. Yuna's vocals make it even better. Again great movie :D

4. 8.5 Live It Up (The Smurfs 2)

"Tear up the script, this is it" :P I do quite like this one but for some reason I often forget its existence :kink: I don't think I've seen the movie but I can't say I'm that fussed about the Smurfs :o

3. 9 Light of Christmas (feat. TobyMac) (VeggieTales: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas)

Not seen the movie or whatever it is before but it does't look like my kind of thing if I'm honest :kink: Love the choruses in this one though

2. 10 When Can I See You Again (Wreck-It Ralph)

Taken from a recent animated movie, Owl City really adds to the soundtrack of this and the song does indeed add to the fun of the film. Great movie and song :music:

1. 11 To The Sky (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole)

This track was recorded for the film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (which is a great film) and is, I believe the second song recorded for a movie after Sunburn. The "da da" parts are irresistable to sing along to and the video is so damn cute, just look at how Adam is dressed *.* again the use of guitar works incredibly well and the chorus is lush

It's been well over a month since I've done anything with this but now college is out of the way I can get some more of this done, possibly tomorrow :D

A reminder of what's still to come (more ideas would be great):

Movie Soundtracks Rank

Featuring/Collaborating Artists Rank

Remixes Rank

As Remixer Rank

Adam Young Rank

Adam Young Projects Rank (the main ones)

The next one will be the Music Videos Rank. I will post some honourable mentions to some fan made videos too, some of which have been great but won't be included in the actual rank.

Here's a cover of Good Time by Against the Current and Alex Goot which I discovered years ago and rediscovered recently after their album was released:

Honourable Mentions

WatchMojo.com teas

As promised here's some honourable mentions of "music videos" created by fans which I enjoy watching sometimes:

Various scenes of hold things, including an adorable little animated story, it definitely fits with the song imo. And it's managed to cook up over 1.5M views :D

Scott has made several fan made music videos which are pretty great, this one, Fireflies, Vanilla Twlilight and Hot Air Balloon. This one in particular I like the rainy scenes and he's pretty good at lip syncing. I imagine if Adam had recorded a video it would look similar to this one

This guy made a music video mashup of various rollercoaster and night sky scenes, along with B.o.B's Airplanes music video and Owl City's Vanilla Twilight video (despite the actual version of the song being Shawn Chrystopher) along with other various clips.

One of my older favourite fan videos, the whole video is such a laugh and it's really helped me get into the actual song too. Of course it would be difficult to create a fan video of this song if you know the lyrics :heehee:

With over 600,000 views, I think this one was filmed rather well, good quality and a nice sunny day on the hill  like Adam does in some of his videos the singer can be seen with a similar haircut and clothes playing a piano on the hill.

Music Videos Rank

I'll be including official videos, lyric, visualisers and videos as featured artist here too so there's a nice long list

Decided to rank the lyric/audio videos that have little going on in the actual videos separately also.

I've come up with a list of 27 official music videos/visualisers, so first of all here is finishing positions #21-27. I'll post a YouTube playlist of the whole ranking at the end.

#27. Up All Night (Official Visualiser)

Not much goes on in this one so I'm ranking it last. It's quite dark and there's some forest scenes and I don't think it fits the video that well.

#26. My Everything

Another forest one (I do love forests though  ) I like how Adam walking in the forest puts the message across in the lyrics, but really all it is is just that, walking in a forest.

#25. All About Us (with He Is We)

Adam doesn't appear in this video as far as I know, but the romantic video fits in nicely with the romantic lyrics

#24: Metropolis

I don't always know how to feel about this one. I mean I don't mind comics and things like that and I like the idea of the video, but I feel like it's missing something and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. The acting could have been better as well. Oh and I'll put my usual excuse here too, I don't think the video represents the lyrics that well :P

#23: Wolf Bite (Official Visualiser)

We've got people wearing wolf masks who are seen riding bikes along dark street corners and doing some cool dancing. You can either love or hate the actual visuals that come blurting at the screen, as it can get a bit irritating but it's a nice idea for a video.

#22. This Isn't the End (Official Visualiser)

What I like with this one is the effects of the video and the whole childhood theme it has which tell the heartful story from the lyrics.

#21: Shine Your Way

Last of the music videos recorded for a movie, this one is taken from The Croods. It's also unfortunate to be my least favourite song in terms of being included in a movie soundtrack. It contains various scenes from the film which is what a lot of these type of music videos do, but the scenes with Adam and Yuna walking along, something with trees or whatever  don't do much for me.

#20. I Woke Up In A Car (by Something Corporate) (Adam Young Remix)

This video doesn't show Adam (which is expected as it is only a remix) but shows the band play in a live setting and as is common with teen band videos, the band is also seen at a college doing, well common college antics :P

#19. Umbrella Beach

Filmed on a coast (and funnily enough, a beach) the video follows a young boy and several photos of various childhood activities, including some of Adam himself. It reminds me a bit of where I live where there's lots of beaches and cliffs  the boy sets out to craft a go kart or something which makes me wish I did something like that when I was younger (although I can still do it now obviously but it won't be the same).

#18. Tokyo (Official Visualiser)

Mostly filmed in Tokyo and showing various clips of Adam and Sekai playing live, as well as scenes of Tokyo's busy city.

#17. Early Birdie

The very first music video filmed! So credit where it's due for that point. It's not that flashy but I think because it's more personal it makes it more special. Adam is seen walking around streets of, I'm not sure where exactly but it's likely near where he lives.

#16. Good Time

The fab Carly and the even more fab Adam are seen driving their own cars in, you guessed it, a forest :funky: Carly comes from the city though so there's a good variation in location. They end up meeting with a bunch of other guys outside a cabin and there's slushies too :P

#15. Vanilla Twilight

Adam appears again, woop, and the video shows various people staring at an odd scene in the sky, I like the video effects.

#14. Youtopia (Armin van Buuren ft. Adam Young)

Another video where Adam appears in the video. Him and this blonde girl take a drive into a forest and row a boat along the sea, it's rather beautiful  the scene later in the video where Adam and the girl watch the northern lights (?) and the campfire is so sweet.

#13. Burj Al Arab (Adam Young)

A short video which is less than a minute long, it shows a man diving into the ocean from a high height. The Burj Al Arab is beautiful and it's something which I'd love to go to. The sunny weather and slow motion and everything is a great watch (the BAA is also appearing on the cover of Ocean Eyes too)

#12. Unbelievable

What's better than a music video animated to include all your 90s faves? :yahoo: the cassette character slays

#11. Verge

Just missing the top 10 is a video about graduating from college or university. I like how the scenes of various students (including Aloe and Adam) wearing those hats (forgot what they are called) and when the chorus kicks in it goes from black and white to a club scene with Adam who's wearing some smart clothes indeed

TOP 10

  • Alligator Sky
  • Beautiful Times
  • Deer In The Headlights
  • Eternity (Paul van Dyk ft. Adam Young)
  • Fireflies
  • Middledistancerunner (Chicane ft. Adam Young)
  • Savior (by LIGHTS) (Adam Young Remix)
  • Shooting Star
  • To the Sky
  • When Can I See You Again

#10. Alligator Sky

Now to kick off the top 10 we have the video recorded for my favourite lead track from Owl City. Both Adam and Shawn appear in the video, walking around with space helmets in a post-apocalyptic Earth. They're also seen flying in a rocket near the end of the video

#9. To the Sky

Taking scenes from the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls Of Ga'Hoole, Adam is wearing some rather adorable clothes in a retro movie recording studio  He can also be seen playing the guitar and singing off the lyrics he writes for the song! :D

#8. When Can I See You Again

Another movie soundtrack agan taking scenes this time from Wreck-It Ralph, Adam just looks so cool in the arcade/retro game scenes, especially with the shades on  I love the scenes where he's in the plane

#7. Beautiful Times

What seems to be the sequel to the video for Fireflies, it is also set in a bedroom where various toys and objects come alive. There's also a kid of which seems to be wearing flyer's goggles and Adam is seen playing a piano (as he does a lot in the videos) in a colourful mini city along with Lindsey Stirling playing her voilin in another cube in a small forest scene. I love the colours and special effects in this

#6. Fireflies

The video that blew it all! Another video set in a bedroom, where toys come alive and Adam's on the piano. It's still a classic, both video and song wise and it still gives me feels

Not sure I've even seen a few of these clips. Also I don't know of a song called 'Burj Al Arab' ;o Or 'I Woke Up In A Car (by Something Corporate) (Adam Young Remix)' for that matter! Might need to look (listen) into these

I have a feeling that you'll choose either 'Deer in the Headlights' or 'Shooting Star' as the best video, they're fun videos indeed!

I'm not sure if you're too into those, but if you're looking for suggestions, maybe you could do like a ranking of the soundtrack albums he's been releasing on the first day of every month? When they're all released, that is. I think he said he's not sure how many there will be. I personally am in love with them  He is such a talented composer imo, I've a feeling he's not getting/won't be getting enough credit for those soundtrack albums...

I really enjoy listening to those kinds of instrumental, ambient, atmospheric sounds lately. He's so versatile. You could also do a Port Blue / Sky Sailing rank? Admittedly I'm not as familiar with some of his non-Owl City projects but I do like everything I've heard, especially the two Port Blue records I have in my iTunes.

(these suggestions of mine might not garner that much interest really, either from you or from others </3)

Yeah the SC song is a boyband type of song and the Owl City sound is definitely there :D as for those ideas, what I might do when they're all out is rank them by overall soundtrack quality rather than each individual track (I'll post some highlights from each though!) I agree that his soundtracks probably are getting less recognition. I also need to relisten to his other projects so yes, a PB/SS rank is also due :funky:

Ty for the suggestions :jump: top 5 revealed in a few hours

Oh yeah, with regard to the soundtracks, I did mean kind of an overall ranking, rather than each individual track. I'm finding it rather difficult to differentiate between a few of the tracks across the soundtracks at the moment, I just know I'm in love with them as a whole

#5. Middledistancerunner (Chicane ft. Adam Young)

Chicane now, and we don't have Adam appearing but the video is still excellent because of the storyline. We see a typical office worker at a desk but in bizzare locations like the seaside and by a train. It all seems like a dream like video but it turns out it actually is as the man wakes up at the end in his workplace. I hope he didn't get fired for sleeping on the job :heehee:

#4. Deer In The Headlights

A DeLorean, Adam, LIGHTS, a deer and what seems to be the version of Adam from Alligator Sky's music video in a spacesuit are all featured in this video! I like the scene in the shop where Adam is in the shop with the deer and LIGHTS  of course the ending is a big highlight as Adam drives the car from Back to the Future at high speed and where we see Adam in the spacesuit again!

#3. Eternity (Paul van Dyk ft. Adam Young)

Now we have my favourite song that Adam has ever been on (and second fave song of all time in general) which has various scenes of spaceships, space and land rovers (including yay more spacesuits ) it's got similar visuals to WCISYA and there's a gaming console too. I love what the people wear on the planet and it's cool to see them walking along a journey to some kind of temple. Since I absolutely love this song so much that's no doubt helped me to love the video too, with its bizarre scenes and characters

#2. Shooting Star

Another big fave here and although it (and the song) is very comparable to Katy Perry's Firework (which I also adore) I cannot deny my love for the city at night with colourful bright lights and of course Adam randomly playing in the middle of the street and people running (along with Adam himself joining which is just amazing). Like with Firework, Shooting Star's lyrical meaning fits perfectly in with the video.

:winner: :no1: Savior (by LIGHTS) (Adam Young Remix)

So my favourite music video to do with Adam at least is the music video for Savior. It's got LIGHTS in but not Adam but the video is still incredible. The fact that it's got some animated scenes and LIGHTS playing the piano and drawing in her bedroom is very inspiring to watch and again the video fits with the lyrics so much and LIGHTS looks stunning as ever  the song is also one of my biggest favourites of all time.

  • Remixes Rank
  • As Remixer Rank
  • Adam Young Rank
  • Adam Young Projects Rank (the main ones)

And of course, the ULTIMATE RANK, which will take me a while to do so that'll come last in the coming months.

Will have to check out the winning video because I'm not sure I've seen it

2. 10 When Can I See You Again (Wreck-It Ralph)

THESE TWO  WCISYA was the hit that never materialised of 2013 in my eyes, deserved to smash :(
