Luke Combs
Ain't No Love In Oklahoma

Soundtrack single from Twisters
Released: 17th May 2024
Label: Universal Studios / Atlantic Recording Corporation

Video

Biography

Country music is like a box, Kenny Rogers once said. The trick is to move outside the dull center of the box, but stay within its confines. Luke Combs mastered that move from the start, mixing versatile songwriting with hard-rock dynamics but always staying true to country’s established values. New artists usually get a cold reception at country radio, but Combs (born in 1990 and raised in North Carolina) barged right through any obstacles. His first single, “Hurricane,” went to No. 1. His second single, “When It Rains It Pours,” went to No. 1. By 2019, Combs was the first country artist in history whose first seven singles went to No. 1, and he was soon headlining arenas. It seemed like overnight success, but it wasn’t: Combs molded his signature sound—a bold, yearning tenor, Southern rock guitars, hip-hop-imbued beats—and released three independent EPs before a major label signed him. It didn’t hurt that Combs has an Everyman appeal—he looks, he’s said, not like a star, but like a typical country fan. In a sea of styled and coiffed Nashville stars, Combs' unkempt manner is a statement of rural masculinity. But while that’s reflected in his thick, raucous sound, he’s a diverse songwriter—one who can toggle from rowdy and loose to sweet and devoted, funny one minute and sentimental the next. In the ’90s, Garth Brooks gave country music the scope of arena rock, and Combs has effortlessly taken up that mantle a few decades later. In 2022, he performed an Apple Music Live session in Charlotte, North Carolina. - Apple Music

Bebe Rexha
Chase It (Mmm Da Da Da)

1st single from forthcoming studio album
Released: 17th May 2024
Label: Warner Records

Video

Biography

What do pop-punk pin-up Pete Wentz, rap diva Nicki Minaj, Top 40 queen Selena Gomez, and country hitmakers Florida Georgia Line have in common? They’ve all been drawn into the orbit of singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha. Born in 1989, the Brooklyn native has left her fingerprints all over the modern musical landscape through her high-profile songwriting credits, her many genre-hopping collaborations, and her own brutally frank yet undeniably effervescent dance-pop bops. It was Wentz who first spotted Rexha’s potential, when the Fall Out Boy founder invited her to bring her sassy vocals to his short-lived electro side project Black Cards in 2011. After striking out on her own, Rexha initially found success as a writer for the likes of Gomez (“Like a Champion”) and Eminem (“The Monster”), and as a guest singer on David Guetta’s 2015 Top 10 clap-happy banger, “Hey Mama”, providing a chorus hook almost towering enough to overshadow Minaj. But since releasing her own debut EP, I Don’t Wanna Grow Up, that same year, Rexha has applied her pop smarts to songs that are unafraid to dredge up all sorts of messy emotions. Never shy about quoting her therapist in song, Rexha lays her mental-health struggles bare on singles like “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy” and “I’m a Mess”, translating self-loathing into unapologetic anthems. But her 2017 honky-trap hoedown with Florida Georgia Line on “Meant to Be” showcased a sweeter side, cementing Rexha’s crossover appeal to club kids and heartland romantics alike. - Apple Music

Biography

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (/biˈɒnseɪ/ ⓘ bee-ON-say; born September 4, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter and businesswoman. Dubbed as "Queen Bey" and a prominent cultural figure of the 21st century, she has been recognized for her artistry and performances, with Rolling Stone naming her one of the greatest vocalists of all time. As a child, Beyoncé started performing in various singing and dancing competitions. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Their hiatus saw the release of Beyoncé's debut album, Dangerously in Love (2003). She then followed with the US number-one solo albums B'Day (2006), I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008), and 4 (2011). After creating her own management company Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé achieved critical acclaim for the experimental visual albums Beyoncé (2013) and Lemonade (2016), which explored themes such as feminism and womanism. With her queer-inspired dance album Renaissance (2022), she became the first female artist to have their first seven studio albums debut at number one in the US. Beyoncé's most successful songs on the Billboard Hot 100 include "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", "Check On It", "Irreplaceable", "If I Were a Boy", "Halo", "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", "Drunk in Love", "Break My Soul" and "Cuff It". She is the only woman in history to have at least 20 top 10 hits as a solo artist, and at least 10 as a member of a group. Her collaborative music ventures include Everything Is Love (2018), an album with her husband and rapper Jay-Z, released as the Carters, and the musical film Black Is King (2020), inspired by the music of the film soundtrack The Lion King: The Gift (2019). Homecoming: The Live Album (2019), which documents her 2018 Coachella performance, has been heralded as a historic live album for its tribute to multiple generations of Black music. Outside of music, she has starred as an actress in films such as Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002), The Pink Panther (2006), Dreamgirls (2006), Cadillac Records (2008), Obsessed (2009), and The Lion King (2019). Having sold 200 million records worldwide, Beyoncé is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Her accolades include a record 32 Grammy Awards, as well as 26 MTV Video Music Awards (including the 2014 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award), 24 NAACP Image Awards, 35 BET Awards, and 17 Soul Train Music Awards – all of which are more than any other artist in the music industry. Her success during the 2000s earned her recognition as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)'s Top Certified Artist of the Decade and Billboard's 4th best artist of the decade. She is the most successful black touring act in history and received the Pollstar Touring Artist of the Decade award in 2021. Time included her as one of the 100 women who defined the 21st century. - Wikipedia

Biography

Before that fateful day in 1996 when he responded to a singer-wanted ad placed by a Chicago rock band, David Draiman was on the path to becoming a rabbi. Within a few years of passing that audition, though, he was leading a different kind of congregation—the five million metalheads who bought The Sickness, the 2000 debut album from his band, Disturbed. Announced by the “oh-wah-ah-ah-ah” heard ‘round the world, the album’s breakout single, “Down With the Sickness,” injected nu-metal’s industrial-strength crunch with old-school hard-rock attitude, expanding the genre’s capacity for outsized angst while forsaking its hip-hop/electronic affinities for pure pummel. But while Disturbed will be forever associated with nu-metal’s millennial golden age, they’ve soundly transcended it. From 2002’s Believe up through to 2015’s Immortalized, Disturbed clocked five consecutive No. 1 albums, never losing their aggressive edge, but gradually revealing the full emotional breadth of Draiman’s growling-to-graceful vocal range and bringing their classic-rock influences to the fore. On Immortalized, the band scored the biggest international radio hit of their career with a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” recasting the ‘60s folk-pop ballad as a harrowing gothic hymn—a perfect emblem of this band’s capacity for transforming the sacred into the sacreligious. - Apple Music

Biography

Mark Ronson is a multi-hyphenate with a Midas touch: a producer, songwriter, and entertainer who, since the turn of the millennium, has changed the sound and shape of pop music as we know it—more than once. Born in London in 1975, Ronson grew up surrounded by music: His father managed bands, and his mother later married Foreigner’s Mick Jones. Ronson started off as a hip-hop DJ while studying at New York University, and his debut album, 2003’s Here Comes the Fuzz, first displayed his uncanny ability to bridge musical worlds. Over zig-zagging funk, disco, and reggae, he incorporated an unlikely array of guests—Ghostface Killah, Jack White, Sean Paul, and Rivers Cuomo—that anticipated the new century’s genre-agnostic approach to pop. Ronson beefed up his own music’s vintage polish and soulful depths on 2007’s Version, around the same time that he became equally celebrated for his production work. Along with records for Lily Allen and Christina Aguilera, Ronson co-produced Amy Winehouse’s acclaimed 2006 LP Back to Black, taking home three Grammys. In ensuing years, he’s manned the boards for Adele, Solange, Wiley, Lady Gaga, and Paul McCartney—a diverse group whose only common denominator is a determination to break boundaries and make history. Ronson is no stranger to the latter: His barnstorming 2014 party jam, “Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars),” is notable not only for its chart-topping run but also the speed with which it became universally recognized as a timeless slice of pop perfection, the kind of song destined to amp up wedding receptions for decades to come. But that success hasn’t hamstrung him: Subsequent albums, like 2015’s Uptown Special and 2019’s Late Night Feelings, have found him masterminding ever more audacious guest lists while finding new ways to make evergreen styles sound entirely new. - Apple Music

Biography

Nigerian singer Tems crafts weighty songs that manage to float, with velvety vocals that unfurl through lyrics imbued with emotional depth. They have made her a leader in Nigeria’s alté music movement, which blends Afrobeats, alternative R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall. Born Temilade Openiyi in 1995 in Lagos, the former Apple Music Up Next artist knew she was destined to make music. At age 6, Tems was creating original songs; at 13, she began vocal training. “By the time I was 17, I knew that this was the only thing that I could possibly do in life,” she told Apple Music. In 2018, her first single, the revelatory “Mr Rebel,” was an immediate runaway hit. Her appearance on fellow Nigerian Wizkid’s beloved 2020 single “Essence” increased Tems’ visibility and brought more attention to her debut EP, For Broken Ears. Led by the undulating “Free Mind,” the project cemented Tems as a rising star not only throughout Africa but worldwide. In 2021, she released her follow-up, If Orange Was a Place, which was highlighted by the Brent Faiyaz-assisted “Found.” An emotive guest feature on Future’s 2022 single “Wait for You” has kept Tems in the spotlight—but she remains grounded by her experiences. “At every single point in my life, I’ve had to break out,” she said. “I’ve had to break boundaries completely. Being yourself, it takes more courage than people would imagine.” - Apple Music
