THIS PROGRAMME IS AMAZING.

It's a comedy shot in a 'mockumentary' style about three families who are all related. Phil is married to Claire and they have three kids. Claire's dad Jay is married to Gloria (who is Claire's age) and she has a child by a previous husband. Claire's brother Mitchell is gay and has adopted a Vietnamese baby with his boyfriend Cam.

I'm surprised there's not already a thread because it debuted last year and it's massively popular with viewers and critics and RIGHTLY SO as it is just wall to wall hilarity. A little clip:

That's Gloria and Jay who for my money are the best two characters but a lot of people think Cam is the funniest... here's one of Phil who is also outrageously funny:

There's a lot of stuff which is funny in an everyday sort of way and quite relatable but there's also a few surreal bits, like my personal favourite moment of the first series where Gloria's young son Manny takes up fencing but Gloria ends up willing him on to lose because he's fighting a girl who is an orphan and a diabetic - just TOO funny.

This show's been around a little while and whilst I've tried I just can't get into it. Not a fan, just don't find it funny.
My dad showed me this show on Friday night, it's not groundbreaking but it's fairly funny :D
LOVE this show. Cameron and Mitch are totally me and my BF (minus the Chinese baby)

LOOOOOVE this show!

have the 1s season wrapped up few days a go and watching the 2nd season us pace now!

deserved the Emmy for best comedy of the year!

There's been quite a quality drop off from the first series, imo - also not loving the total lack of story arcs.

Definitely disagree. This season has been just as good, if not better. American comedy hasn't been of this quality in quite some time, between this and 30 Rock (you can probably add Parks & Recreation too). We just need some more Arrested Development and the world will be a better place.

Favorite show on TV right now LOVE IT.

I don't remember the last time I've laughed this much while watching a sitcom. It definitely deserves all of the attention it's been getting. Also I can continuously watch Season 1 over and it still doesn't get old for me!

Personally I thought last week week's episode was a step up for Season 2.

I caught a rerun a few weeks ago, It was the episode where the daughter ran over her father on her driving lesson and when they locked the baby in the car. LOL it was really funny. Now Im addicted :) Glad to hear its renewed :)

Just got into this show. It's been on my list of shows to see for ages. I am 7 episodes in on Season 1 and i haven't laughed this much at a comedy in years. It's brilliant. Gonna try and zoom through all rest in time for Season 3.

I kind of stopped watching after the sixth or seventh episode of season two, it just wasn't that funny anymore and too knowing in places. Might try and get into it again if only for Gloria, Jay and Manny.

Agreed. I found the first few episodes really good but everything became too samey/dull towards the end of season two. Apologies to xxxxxx!

17 Emmy nominations, the highest of any series on network TV, 3rd overall behind Mad Men (AMC) & Boardwalk Empire (HBO).

I loved season 2. Can't really pick any stand-out episodes though as most had their highlights. Shame that they're re-casting Lily, I hope the new one isn't too different (though they shouldn't want to make it too noticeable). Just HOW do the girls that play her remain so quiet?

I quite like this show too. It contains more subtle humor than you initially think and generally relies as much on cleverly thought situations and characters being oblivious than on embarassing situations, which is a major plus in my book.

3rd season started now, very much same as usual, though I wasn't too fond of the first episode.

I got into this in the states and I love it. Got the first two seasons on Blu-Ray and just powered through them, so funny.

Gloria and Claire just make this show.

I love Modern family. we should do a character rate! Luke ftw! :kink:
