My prediction before the show!
01 Montenegro 02 Iceland 03 Greece 04 Latvia 05 Albania 06 Romania 07 Switzerland 08 Belgium 09 Finland 10 Israel 11 San Marino 12 Cyprus 13 Denmark 14 Russia 15 Hungary 16 Austria 17 Moldova 18 Ireland Iceland got a really bad draw, but they got alot of people on their side. I think they will qualify. Russia will obviously qualify because alot of people actually enjoy this, I don't see it though. I don't think alot of people will see that the Latvian song is actually meant to be funny. San Marino will of course end at the bottom I think. Hungary is too difficult to remember, even I have forgotten how it goes even though I like it. Belgium is just boring. A bit unsure about Finland as they always struggle when they sing in their national language, this time their 2nd national language. Ireland have a good draw, and last year they came really far with a bad song (in my ears). I guess they got alot of fans out there. What I hope happens 01 Montenegro 02 Iceland 03 Greece 04 Latvia 05 Albania 06 Romania 07 Switzerland 08 Belgium 09 Finland 10 Israel 11 San Marino 12 Cyprus 13 Denmark 14 Russia 15 Hungary 16 Austria 17 Moldova 18 Ireland |

Want:
Albania Cyprus Denmark Finland Greece Iceland Ireland Israel Moldova Romania Predict: Albania Denmark Finland Greece Iceland Ireland Israel Moldova Romania Russia ...and some tears. Quite an open field overall I'd say. The only definite non-qualifiers are Montenegro. |

San Marino sound very good live and it is catchy. I personally don't think they can be totally ruled out of qualification at this stage although I will be very surprised if they do qualify!

Being the absolute genius that I am I managed to arrange to have dinner with my friend tomorrow at 8pm. Continuing my stunning streak of intelligence would be scheduling another dinner for Thursday.

I think you made your point
I won't be able to watch this live which is all kinds of depressing. Will tape it and watch as soon as I can though! Hopefully I can avoid coming on here and getting spoilers! Cheering for San Marino because someone has to do it Clinging on to any possible chance of qualification. |

What I think will qualify:
02 Iceland 03 Greece 04 Latvia 06 Romania 09 Finland 10 Israel 13 Denmark 14 Russia 17 Moldova 18 Ireland What I want to qualify: 02 Iceland 03 Greece 04 Latvia 06 Romania 08 Belgium 09 Finland 12 Cyprus 13 Denmark 15 Hungary 18 Ireland This is quite a strong semi actually. Cyrus, Denmark, Greece and Ireland are all highly ranked by me. |

Right, I see it as the following:
Near-certain qualifiers Iceland Greece Romania Russia Likely qualifiers Cyprus Denmark Moldova Ireland Potential qualifiers Switzerland Belgium Israel Hungary Austria Unlikely qualifiers Albania Latvia Finland Write-offs Montenegro San Marino Greece, Romania and Russia are all spectacle pieces that easily stick in the head and should get more than enough televotes to secure them places in the final - some have suggested that Greece might crash out Turkey/Armenia-style, but I don't see it happening mainly as last year both of those countries didn't have many friendly votes available, whereas Greece has about 30 straight off the bat here. I can't see Eleftheria failing to qualify unless the juries really go all out on trying to keep her out of the final, but at the same time I don't think she's certain to be top four - I just think she's almost certainly going to qualify, no matter where she ends up in the top ten. I'm going to take a bit of a risk and predict Iceland to win this semi from the second performance slot - I think it's got the jury victory in this semi near wrapped up (what could contend? Denmark's the only one I can see rivalling, or maybe Belgium/Finland at a long stretch) and should do well enough in the televotes for it to average out as a semi win. Beyond that, it gets a little more risky. Ireland and Moldova should be through but it's by no means certain that the juries won't turn on Pasha/Jedward (I know they didn't last year for Jedward, but Lipstick as a song relied far less on vocals versus spectacle than Waterline. I don't think they'll turn on Jedward but it's not a certainty.). Cyprus I think will make it but I could easily see something along the lines of a Daria - Celebrate kind of failure if it all goes tits up in the final performance, and I think we all remember Bergendahlgate when it comes to making predictions for Denmark, so I'm hedging my bets there. Which leaves two qualifying places left, and I can see five countries in contention - Switzerland, Belgium, Israel, Hungary and Austria. I'm going to predict qualification for Belgium first - I think it'll completely overshadow Finland next to it, and I can see the juries lapping it up, but it's still a risk that going next to Finland might take out both (like Ireland going next to Belarus did in 2010's final). The second place is far harder to predict. Switzerland could get through but we haven't seen too many incidences of MoR pop-rock getting through in recent years, so it could be a jury pick but I think it could easily go the same way as The Highest Heights. Israel stands out big but I can't call how the juries will take to it. File Hungary next to Switzerland in the uncertainty stakes, and Austria being big, mad and memorable and two slots from the end leads me to think that it might be a shock qualifier. The juries could take it out but I reckon the televotes could easily see it through. In terms of the unlikely, Albania's three minutes of wailing will go the same way as Cyprus's entry last year I think; Latvia is LOVELY and I would have my year made if it went through, but from such an early slot I can't see it; Finland will probably be taken out by Belgium and I think it's far too subtle and inaccessible for the Eurovision stage. Montenegro and San Marino are dead on arrival. So, I see the following: 01 Iceland 02 Romania 03 Russia 04 Denmark 05 Greece 06 Moldova 07 Ireland 08 Cyprus 09 Belgium 10 Austria 11 Israel 12 Hungary 13 Switzerland 14 Latvia 15 Albania 16 Finland 17 San Marino 18 Montenegro In terms of what I want to see through? Take out Belgium and whack in Latvia, and I can give or take Finland in exchange for Ireland but don't mind either way. |

Think:
Russia Denmark Romania Iceland Greece Moldova Cyprus Ireland Hungary Austria (11 Finland, 12 Belgium 13 San Marino 14 Israel 15 Latvia 16 Albania 17 Switzerland 18 Montenegro) Want: Iceland Finland Romania Greece Cyprus Moldova San Marino Denmark Latvia Israel I'm preparing to weep for Pernilla but I think she has more chance of qualifying than Belgium, partly because I think it blows Belgium out of the water but maybe that's just me trying not to be realistic. I can't see the top 5 of my 'think' list not qualifying and I think Moldova's pretty likely as well. Would LOVE to see Jedward and Russia fail but I think I'll be hoping against hope there. Hungary could scrape themselves through and I wouldn't mind. Same with Austria to some extent, although if any novelty qualifies, I'd prefer it to be San Marino, Latvia, Israel or even Montenegro over Austria, Russia and Ireland. Trust me to love all the unpopular novelty. The only two I think have no chance whatsoever are Sinplus and Rambo, so it's looking a very open semi from 6th down to 16th. As for who'll win, I think Romania should take this semi, followed by Russia and Denmark, Iceland could do well though and I'd love for them to win the semi although I don't see it happening from the 2nd slot. |

Think:
01. Romania 02. Denmark 03. Iceland 04. Cyprus 05. Russia 06. Greece 07. Ireland 08. Moldova 09. Belgium 10. Albania 11. Austria 12. Finland 13. Latvia 14. Israel 15. Hungary 16. Switzerland 17. Montenegro 18. San Marino As long as Iceland, Cyprus and Romania make it through (and Montenegro and Albania fall flat on their arses) I'm not really bothered who the other 7 qualifiers are, as it's quite a strong semi. |

Because of a bus accident yesterday apparently Albania won't be broadcasting the first semi live tonight, which means they'll be just using a jury vote.
Which means Montenegro might be on track for NUL POINTS! *.* |

Here's who I think will qualify:
01 Montenegro 02 Iceland 03 Greece 04 Latvia 05 Albania 06 Romania 07 Switzerland 08 Belgium 09 Finland 10 Israel 11 San Marino 12 Cyprus 13 Denmark 14 Russia 15 Hungary 16 Austria 17 Moldova 18 Ireland And as long as Cyprus qualifies I'll be happy! And I've made my decision on who I think is going to win the whole thing, I'm going for Romania! If they get a late draw in the final, I think they will do it. They are gaining momentum at exactly the right time with the bookies and we know Elena can sing it great. You heard it here first! |
