Tonight James Arthur won The X Factor 2012 and his debut single will be a cover of Shontelle's 'Impossible'!

Watch his live performance of 'Impossible' below:

Can't wait to hear the studio version  And what's even better is Shontelle's brilliant original is getting a boost, it'd be brilliant if it could repeak seeing as it's top 30 already!

 So weird seeing a thread for him! Hope it can be fairly big, but more importantly i hope he can stay 'relevant' with his original stuff next year!

#1 already!

His voice sounds so good on record

Personally I think its a horrible version of the song. And I hate his tone. But each to their own.

I hope the original version charts again.

He sounded better live than the crappy arrangement of the studio version. Can't believe he has over 1m followers on twitter already, he definately has a future.

Downloaded this - I loved the Shontelle original anyway but this proves why he won, he can take anything and make it his own. So happy he's won, he's been my favourite all throughout and I can see him releasing a good album in the next year. I want to be in that James Arthur fanclub that Caroline Flack was in the audience with last night...they were REPRESENTING!

PS He followed me on Twitter in like, October. Feel pretty proud of that. ;)

If he comes out with something like this, lets just say I'm glad he won, despite X Factor largely being disastrous this year. I really like the original and this is already on a par for me, his tones are quite interesting, something I did like about him from his early performances when I was actually watching.

In terms of winners singles, not quite as good as Alexandra, Little Mix or Matt but a solid 4th. Not a bad effort, James.

I've just heard Impossible for the first time.

It's a good song, as I expected. I'm going through a hard period at the moment and this is really helping me get through it. His voice sounds so raw, real and painful on it... it's impossible (no pun intended) not to resist. I prefer this version to the original as well.

It's probably my third favourite X Factor winner's song already on second listen, behind Leona in first place and Alexandra in second place. Little Mix would be fourth. :P

The only thing this song needed was a key change though (I actually really like them!), because it would have helped the song to sound more interesting. :( But yeah, other than that, a solid 9/10! ^_^

There IS a key change  Go to 2:40 in the OP...

I do quite like this, it's not my favourite X Factor winner's song, but it's nice to hear something different for it for once - the production's great (despite the message basically being the same as all winning songs).

edited because Theo had a facepalm moment and is only looking for an argument with me (see Hitstastic's post)

Oh, I love this. I would say it's my second favourite xFactor winner single, behind Alexandra Burke!

What about Leona Lewis or Little Mix? :o

That isn't a key change. :P It just breaks down to make way for James over emotive final chorus but the music doesn't go up in pitch.

I actually really like James Arthur's version of 'Impossible' and it was always between him and Ella for me when it came to being the most successful in the long run. Just hope winning doesn't hinder his success. I saw his interview on Daybreak yesterday morning and he said he wants to get his album out as soon as possible. Go on lad!!! :D

For me...

01 Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah

02 James Arthur - Impossible

03 Little Mix - Cannonball

04 Matt Cardle - When We Collide

05 Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This

I personally don't find Leona's winner's single that great as people make out. It's a bit average really, her post-XF stuff is far superior!

How could I forget The Climb, although I would have preferred to hear Stacey Solomon's version of it, it suits a female vocalist much more (Miley Cyrus ).

Love them all tbh, I prefer Kelly Clarkson's version of AMLT though as it's just 'nicer' and simple, it feels calm.
