The first of two tracks to get "nil points" is old-skool hardcore tune from 1992 which peaked at #2 in the UK chart. The track got infamous after the band were sued for ripping off Walking In Memphis without having the right to do so, and as a result, the track dived down the chart after being taken off sale. The song itself is quite good, it is typical early 90s dance and the sample works well in it imo, it's like a lighter version of The Prodigy. Now it is available to buy in a remix version which removes the sample, and as a result makes it sound like a different song. Here is the original for you to enjoy.

Two of Inna's hits made the chart last year, but both have dropped out. Those were Hot and Amazing. Which makes the inclusion of Deja Vu even stranger. Anyway it did get 2 nominations so it made the top 150, but no-one actually voted for it. The song is nice and summery but seriously what were people smoking to put this in the final ahead of her finest effort, Hot. At least Sun Is Up made it through this year and actually did get points (more on that later). It peaked at #60 in the UK chart in 2010.

 

Inna did have a few good lil tunes, Sun Is Up, Hot and Amazing were all good.

 

Cola Song was also pretty good but not great..

Another decent 90s dance tune, this made #2 in 1991. However it is not my favourite of theirs, as 3 a.m. Eternal and Justified and Ancient are both better than this, so again it is surprising that this, out of all their songs, made it in. Anyway only one person voted for it but here it is on YouTube anyway. It's the only place you'll hear it because they haven't allowed most of their music onto download or streaming services.

Well this is a great trance record. I really should've voted for it to help it get a bit higher, but then again I am surprised it made it in the first place. Whilst the original, a #18 hit in 2001, is linked below, I much prefer Riva's remix of it. I discovered it on a trance compilation and fell in love. If that was the version we were voting for I probably would have given it points.

Well this song is a bit bleh, it's doesn't come across as original and it's generic. And with the dance scene being so competitive right now, a song needs more to get into my heart. Whilst Alive is actually a good pop-dance crossover, the lyrics in this aren't as strong and the drop isn't particularly exciting. It seems like Alive was a one-off because I can't really get myself into these guys. The song isn't bad, but there are others so much more worth listening to.

You could easily mistake this for a 90s rave track, but it's actually quite recent, having been released in 2012. It's another BJSC hit (there's quite a few of these in the lower section) and all of its points were given to it by Harve. I do like it though, it's a nice retro throwback and is packed with energy. Also contains a Whitney sample for those of you who like her.

With all its points given to it by 7Seize, this is the last song in the countdown (up to #52 at least) that only had 1 person vote for it. It was a 1988 hit for Bomb the Bass, peaking at #2 in the UK. It reminds me of Pump Up The Volume, except it's not as good. The song isn't something I've heard before and not something I'd run back to either.

Not quite the oldest entry, but it's nearly there, having been released in 1978 and peaking at #9 in the UK. It's not their most well known song which makes it another odd inclusion. The song is okay for what it is but I wouldn't listen to it myself. There's no denying that Nile Rodgers of Chic did have a big influence on dance music though so it's only appropriate that he is in the countdown (and he appears later on in Get Lucky).

This was actually released in 2012, but gained BuzzPopularity earlier this year when ketalina entered it in BJSC and it finished at #2. Orbital had 17 UK Top 75 hits including a re-release. This however was not one of them but it is the only entry of theirs in the countdown. As a song it's quite good but I never properly loved it. It's worth having a listen to though.

This song is far too low people. :( It's exactly what a progressive house song should be like, a big melodic buildup and a drop that has the same melody as the buildup and sounds like an anthem. It went to #19 in 2012 after having a vocal mix which actually sounds good. Ryan Tedder and Alesso further proved to be a good combo when If I Lose Myself came out.

EMF are described as an electronic rock band on wikipedia, and the song is described as alternative dance, so I decided to let it through. Whether it's indie or dance, it is quite a good mix of the two so yay all around. Not one of my faves in the countdown but it's on Absolute radio a lot and it sounds good on there (before you ask, my parents listen to it when they're not listening to R2 and I happen to be in the same room as them from time to time). The song peaked at #3 in 1990

Well this is a lovely song. Straight from the late 90s trance domination (a #14 hit in 1996), it's more subtle and atmospheric than most of its genre. The instrumental version is linked below as the video is in HD and I imagine that people were voting based on that, but there is also a vocal mix featuring Power Circle which is worth listening to. I personally prefer that version.

A #3 hit in 2005, this was their only hit single. It's not one of my favourites on the list, and whilst it's not bad I do feel that it lacks something. The production isn't particularly standout (I've never been a big fan of electric guitars in dance music) and the spoken lyrics which are obviously trying to sound sexy don't have that effect for me.

Arguably the song that popularised big room progressive house, peaking at #7 in 2010, it was the first song that Axwell, Ingrosso & Angello released under the name Swedish House Mafia. And it's still one of their best. Pharrell's vocals don't add much to it but both the vocal and instrumental versions are very good. Shame on you for making it drop 73 places :( Listening to it right now and it's still a f*cking anthem!

Buzzjack clearly didn't show much taste in the nominations round in terms of Chemical Brothers songs as their 2 best efforts; Hey Boy, Hey Girl and Galvanise sadly miss out. At least we've got this though, which is another good song from the brothers and sounds more modern and housey than their 90s big beat anthems. The song went to #12 in 2007.

You really love Calvin, as he has SIX songs in the countdown. This one went to #9 in the Calvin Harris rate but despite that it got through. And in the UK, a #8 hit for him this time last year. It's typical Harris and has nothing standout about it but the vocals are very nice so I just appreciate the song for what it is really. He has done better and you seem to agree. The song is very enjoyable though, also sounds great in the summer as it's not as 'loud' as many of his other songs.
