Hello Hi. My name is not Holly, Molly OR Polly, but welcome to the first in a series of CLASSIC CINEMA rates hosted by me, your ever present and underloved GM Johnkm.

The basic idea behind this is that each week you will be given the chance to vote on a series of between 10 and 15 movies from each year of the millennium so far, that's 16 years in total. The reason for no set number of films is because of the way the list is compiled:

1) The top 10 grossing movies of the year, worldwide
2) The winners of Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress at that years Oscar ceremony.

It doesn't always happen, but that means we could have 15 films, but obviously the winners might already be in the top 10, or have won multiple (or all) of the above, so the list will be smaller. For example in 2000, Gladiator was second highest grossing, but also won Best Picture and Actor.

Anyway, onto the important stuff. You will vote using the traditional Buzzfestivalen/Melodisfestivalen system, which is as follows:

12 - your favourite movie
10 - your second favourite, and so on
08
06
04
02

The films in contention this week are as follows:

Mission: Impossible II
Gladiator
Cast Away
What Women Want
Dinosaur
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Meet The Parents
The Perfect Storm
X-Men
What Lies Beneath
Erin Brockovich
Traffic
Pollock

You have until APRIL 24TH, 2015 AT 23:59PM to cast your votes via PM TO ME, JOHNKM. Please feel free to discuss the films in this thread, and if you haven't seen any now might be a good time to fill in the gaps in your film knowledge.

Yes, I realise this isn't actually a RATE, but it sounded good and that's much more important.

I haven't seen ANY of 'Gladiator' or 'Cast Away' ph34r.gif (not seen a few others in this list, but they're the BIG omissions!)

But hoping to catch them soon. Maybe this can be the motivation I need! Brilliant idea though!

I've only seen 4 and half of Gladiator, and I don't even like Dinosaur that much drama.gif I'll try and watch some more though, look forward to the later years for these definitely.

12 - Gladiator
10 - Traffic
08 - X-Men
06 - What Lies Beneath
04 - Cast Away
02 - Dinosaur

To be honest I didn't really want to give points to anything after Traffic. Nothing else on the list is worth more than 6/10

Anyone can vote in the next few hours, I've had a super busy weekend so haven't added anything up yet. Results should be about 10 pm or so.

VI HAR ET RESULTAT

So going straight through to the final we have GLADIATOR, the Russel Crowe starring Oscar winning smash that ended up as the second highest grossing movie of the year. Joining it in the final is the decidedly less critically acclaimed but nonetheless shit the bed amazing How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Narrowly missing out in third and fourth are the film that essentially kickstarted the modern superhero movie tsunami X-Men and the Ben Stiller ''comedy'' Meet The Parents, both of which had strong support across the board but couldn't quite make it through to the final.

Two more big critically acclaimed films up in 5th and 6th too, with the brilliant Cast Away starring Tom Hanks and Traffic. Julia Roberts Oscar vehicle Erin Brockovich puts up a decent fight in 7th and horror What Lies Beneath ends up beneath (har har har) a lot of other films in 8th place with only 22 points.

The Disney movie nobody remembers Dinosaur bags 9th place and biggest movie of the year Mission: Impossible II manages only 10th place here, with LAD Rooney being it's biggest supporter. Apparently only Leonardo is interested in What Women Want, which sounds about right on Buzzjack, good old FILM BUFF Randy donates Pollock, the film that bagged Marcia Gay Harden her Oscar, it's only points and bringing up the rear and very nearly scoring ZERO is The Perfect Storm.

There's an obvious mistake there, Jark gave Meet The Parents nothing, but it doesn't change the results.

08 The Perfect Storm
06 X-Men
04 Dinosaur
02 Meet The Parents

X-Men would've gotten through oops
