yep, who'd have thought this chart would still be going after 300 editions? me.

 

anyway, I'll be counting down my top 40 songs of the week in this thread, as well as revisiting some of the charts of yesteryear.

Today's contenders

 

Calvin Harris & Rihanna ~ This Is What You Came For

 

Calvin and RiRi debuted at #1 and haven't left that position since, could they get a fourth week at #1 this week on the 300th chart?

 

SeeB ~ Breathe (feat. Neev)

 

SeeB have been very unlucky to fall behind massive #1s 'This Is What You Came For' and 'Mirror Me' and currently has spent 6 weeks at #2, five of them consecutively. Could this finally be the week they get their long-awaited #1?

 

Croatia Squad & Lika Morgan ~ Make Your Move

 

Now for the outside contender - Croatia Squad and Lika Morgan entered at #14 last week with their re-interpretation of Dave Armstrong's 'Make Your Move' (also known for the Junior Jack version titled 'Stupidisco'), could it climb all the way to #1 this week?

 

Also look out for new songs from Martin Solveig, Danny L Harle, High Contrast and more in the chart this week.

We start the top 40 with one of my personal favourites of the year, if not *the* favourite. Despite just the two weeks at #1, 'Lush Life' has been a very consistent runner in the top 40 all year as well as having a mammoth top 10 run. Choon.

Queen of Albanian pop music [well there's not exactly any competition] Era Istrefi smashes her way back into the top 40 this week as 'Bonbon' is still quite the banger of a tune. Also it's now got an English mix which isn't as good as the original but now means the song may have a chance of being a UK hit :cheer:

After spending a good 10 weeks in my chart The UK decided to finally make this song a hit. Good thing too 'cause it's a beauty of a song. I just hope I don't eventually get really tired of it like often happens with slow songs that get big, but this deserves to smash. It re-enters the top 40 this week off the back of its impending UK slayage.

Mura Masa broke through earlier this year with 'Firefly' and 'Love For That' which were hits around the same time in my chart. This has to be the best thing he's done to date though, very fresh and British sounding production.

After the brilliant 'Never Forget You', it seems MNEK hasn't followed in the path of Zara Larsson by releasing an even better song. 'At Night' however is still very good and gets a 2nd week in the top 40 this week.

After four weeks in the top 20 Margaret starts making her way out with the Zara Larsson-sounding 'Cool Me Down'. It's done very well here though for what is essentially a Eurovision song.

Now we go to our first new entry of the day, this one comes from French musician Willy William whose 'Ego' has over 90 million views on YouTube. It seems that I'm late to the party with this one but nonetheless it's quite a banger.

Entering the top 40 is the return of High Contrast, who has a bit of history in this chart including a #1. Needless to say 'Remind Me' is the best thing he's done in AGES. I do love a good bit of drum n' bass from time to time and this guy knows how to make it :music:

Well I certainly didn't expect Anton Powers to come back with such a tune - after all, 'Alone No More' was a bit of a letdown for Philip George after two brilliant singles and maybe that was down to Powers. But he proves himself with house anthem 'Love You Better' which brings him back into the top 40 this week and could climb further in the coming weeks.

Love You Better is a stunner :wub: it is pretty much Alone No More but with female vocals yet still a massive tune. Nice find!

Loving “Remind Me”, but am surprised you didn't chart “Who's Loving You - Pt. 2” that was a massive hit for me which peaked at #7 in October 2014. The highest he has gone!

Let's now take a break to look at what was hitting the charts 5 years ago!

 

It was the week of Lady GaGa's album release, which had a major impact on the chart. The new entries from her were 'Schieße' [#9], 'Government Hooker' [#21], 'Marry The Night' [#27], 'Bad Kids' [#32] and 'Electric Chapel' [#33] - which joined 'The Edge Of Glory', 'Born This Way', 'Judas' and 'Hair' in the chart.

 

Other new entries that week came from Calvin Harris ('Awooga', #22 - which would later peak at #3) and for some reason Clare Maguire ('The Shield And The Sword', #34) and The Script ('Science & Faith', #42).

I guess it is, it just works a lot better for me though. Maybe it's the better vocalist.
