I definitely remember this one from a few adverts back in the day, possibly for mobile phones but I can't be sure. It certainly does sound like the sort of thing Channel 4 would have been all over, a bit like Daft Punk's Discovery album tracks and Touch & Go's Would You?. It's a welcome blast from the past anyway, best of luck with it.

Yes, as you say Wardy- I discovered this in the early 2000s when Channel 4 did all those 'Top 100 Greatest' type progammes with this as the theme and constantly wanting to know what it was.

Turns out it was some Big Beat epic that samples a German album of striptease music by the Werner Müller Orchestra. AMAZING!

Following the results of the 135th final of the BuzzJack Song Contest, we are happy to report that a final position of 27th has been achieved for Bentley Rhythm Ace. It is a unique final position for our nation, and the first time that a final entry has finished in the 20’s. It is however our third lowest finishing final entry to date, however, the critics are still delighted with the outcome. Big thanks to Rolloland for awarding us maximum points (the second occasion in as many finals), and Utopia for awarding 15 points. Also wanting to thank Fljótavík and Arcodesia for their first awards of final points for our nation! cheer.gif

There has been announced a short break until we send in our next main contest entry, but stay tuned for something else in June 2021…

Unlike others I didn't recognise this one from any adverts, but I did remember owning it on a cassette compilation which I then spent far too long trying to remember, eventually recalling enough random stuff that was on it to locate it by Googling 'bentley rhythm ace finley quaye rialto cd', ended up making a playlist with the songs I don't recognise or not heard for years to see what other gems I'd long forgotten.

BJSC 136 Entry (July 2021)

Artist: SNAILS
Song: Frogbass

Origin: 🇨🇦 Canada

Snails is a record producer from Canada whose musical style has been described as "vomitstep", featuring "guttural bass gurgles, crushing 808s and synthesizers oscillated well past the point of absurdity" according to Billboard. Snails has continued steadily releasing music through multiple labels, including several releases on Skrillex's OWSLA imprint.

Frogbass was featured on the soundtrack to M Night Shyamalen’s 2016 movie Split and contains a classic house vocal from Crash Goes Love (Yell Apella) by Loleatta Holloway. The bass thumping arrangements and sickening synth lines feature some hefty, frog croak bursts as the main catalyst for getting you hyped up on top of the infectious vocal sample and pounding drums.

BJSC 138 Entry (September 2021)

Artist: Riohv
Song: Green Room

Origin: 🇨🇦 Canada

Riohv is an electronic producer from Canada. Finding more confidence and proficiency in his own abilities as a producer, he was able to have a lot more fun and subsequently revise and update his sound to reflect his own tastes in records.

On Green Room, it comes down to creating what he wants to hear — atmosphere through dreamy or moody pads, layered percussive elements, to pay tribute to the euphoria of early rave music.

So after receiving another DNQ, the third one of 2021 (not counting the DNQ from Buzzjackfestivalen VI), it seems that 10 votes and 34 points wasn’t enough to secure a place in the final. Competition was high as it always is. Where we go from here is anyones guess.

If you wish to share any feedback on Zanmatony’s recent entries, the directions we have trialed and what sounds you would like to hear from our nation in the future, please do share your remarks here. We are not yet certain of being eligible to participate beyond 2021 yet, but with the moderators blessing, this will hopefully be the case.

Also, may we take this opportunity to thank those of you who have supported us each month with your votes and kind comments too.

Zanmatony wishes to extend thanks to Mosquetania for designing them a close up HQ map of the country and its bordering nations. Perhaps in time names will be allocated to the various regions of our nation which appears to be split into 9. The capital of Blinche warmly welcomes this evolvement of its nation!

BJSC 139 Entry (October 2021)

Artist: Robots In Disguise
Song: The DJ’s Got A Gun

Origin: 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Robots in Disguise are an English electropunk band composed of Dee Plume (vocals and guitar), Sue Denim (vocals and bass) and a changing line-up of backing musicians. The group released four studio albums between 2000 and 2011. Sue and Dee, who met while students in Liverpool, took stage-names from the words for: a writer's pen name, "nom de plume" (Dee Plume) and an assumed name, "pseudonym" (Sue Denim).

NME described The DJ’s Got A Gun as “a lost classic of mid-noughties disco-punk, while 2005’s Get RID! was a great DIY pop album.” Another independent reviewer described the song as “a fine disco-funk song, vocoder vocals, '70s disco guitars, and seductive vocals: its like Shampoo grinding up against Kraftwerk on some sweaty dancefloor, this track is made for a DJ set.”

Original Release Date: June 7th, 2004

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO wish i would have entered this BJSC now....

This is great, love it (apart from the gun references), I'd describe the song as 00s electroclash mixed with early 80's new wave!

We could really have done with Buzzjack Mountain’s votes. Another DNQ on our hands for 2021, making it 4 so far in 2021. sad.gif

Our plan is to send something current from 2021 next round, but not sure what yet.

BJSC 140 Entry (November 2021)

Artist: ABSOLUTE. feat. Bklava
Song: U4IA

Origin: 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Mixmag cover artist ABSOLUTE. aka Anthony McGinley has graduated from the vibrant East London underground LGBTQ+ club scene to the world stage with a consistent flow of tracks and remixes. With key supporters ranging from Pete Tong to an ever expanding array of tastemakers; Tiga, Maya Jane Coles, Blessed Madonna, Annie Mac and beyond, Anthony has been careful to put out a broad palette to ensure his ambition to deliver a live show remains a clear goal. He has DJed at a wide array of parties and festivals from Glastonbury and Creamfields to Fabric and Razzmatazz.

Bklava is a British singer, DJ and producer of the Irish and Lebanese descent. She is currently based in South London.

U4IA is a piano-fuelled rave track, blending old-skool energy with Bklava’s vocals. On the track, ABSOLUTE. says it “is one of my favourite tracks that I’ve written. Peak energy and rave euphoria from start to finish and as much fun to make as to dance to! When I made it with Bklava, it was the first time we’d met but it came together so quickly and naturally and by the end of the session we just couldn’t stop dancing around my bedroom studio to it. Over the summer it's become a peak moment in my DJ and live sets so I'm excited it finally gets to have a light shone on it and close out this amazing Wonderland mixtape campaign.”

This is one of the few songs I've already heard from this month and it is a banger (ABSOLUTE. and Bklava are clearly a great combo) - think this should easily see you back in the final!

Thanks Persephonia! jump.gif Glad to have a fan this month, along with Kathaldazia who hyped my last minute entry choice! It does feel like a bold move for our nation compared with our recent entries, but hopefully it has the right ingredients to reach the final!
